pls I'm from Nigeria and I'm 15 and I want to produce music but I don't have money. pls can u help me with a starter pack
Wow, good help , im from Fiji 🇫🇯🇫🇯, and always wanted to begin with a simple studio, really giving me an idea, as to how to set up a beginner studio, currently in Australia, ill find few recording stuff and take it to Fiji 🇫🇯🇫🇯, Thanks Ed, for the awesome ideas 💯👏🏿👏🏿💯
I just bought a Focus Scarlett 2i2 interface and it came with a recording program (that I can’t think of the name right now) and a ton of DAWs! So far it has sounded very nice for guitars. I record on an old 2012 Mac mini that I received from a customer. Works great. One day I’ll get one of these mics and continue adding on. Great video!
great video - thanks so much for emphasizing the need to focus on producing music rather than going down the gear rabbithole.
Great video, very nice break down! love it!
I had the pre-Sonus 3 inch monitors in a small downstairs set up to use with my laptop, $100. These little speakers are phenomenal.
In my studio, I have Kalis, and Events. Now I use my little 3 inch pre-Sonus monitors as my television speakers. They are perfect for this job. Especially if I want to listen to CZcams music.
great video! I would suggest getting a dynamic instead of a condenser if you are working out of an untreated small-ish room. the SM57 is something that every studio needs in the long run, so its a great starting point imo. Or an SM58 if you are only recording vocals.

Thanks for the Great tutorials.
Hey Man Thank you for your videos! i learn a lot about your videos for my own!
I requested this video and you finally made it , thank you very much ❤❤💕
Thanks for watching 🫡
Brief and concise video
Dope content as usual
Really needed this 🔥🔥
Hope it helps 🫡
I’ve finally decided to make the leap to the next step into producing / making music, and this video 100% sealed it for me as far as what i’m picking up. I had planned on picking up an MA-67 mic, a Scarlett Solo 4th gen audio interface, and the M20x headphones, and this video just confirmed it for me, so thank you!! I just have to wait for the MA-67s to restock on amazon since it says they’re no longer available. hopefully they restock soon because that mic really impressed me especially for the price
Great gear choices 💪🏻
Great information and video, thanks for posting ✨🙌
Glad it was helpful!
I reguested this video and you finally made it, thank you very much 💚✊
Hope you enjoyed it!
I'm saving this for my break watch . ⌚️
Thanks for this man
Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
All of the D.A.W. packages he lists are about $100 or is subscription based. Reaper is only $60 and is as full featured as any of the others mentioned if not more so.
came to the comments to say this, thanks
ardour is also free on windows/linux, and pay what you want for mac. its very underrated, they don't market as much outside the open source community so its not as popular.
Cakewalk by BandLab. It`s free (for the moment) and very nice daw too 😁
Reaper is the GOLD.
I would agree except for the fact that you need plugins if you're doing anything beyond mixing. I love REAPER, but if you're making MIDI music there are basically no instruments bundled with it.
Thanks a lot dude u literally saved me with this vid ❤
Glad to hear it!
what a legend.....I love u
Hey… Hey hey hey,, hey. I just stumbled over your video. As, I built my first home studio. A short while back. With old radio station equipment. From the 1940s and 50s. Back in, 1968 when I was 12 years old. Yeah I wired it all up. I knew I was going to do that for a living. And I needed to start practicing. So I would be ready to get a job when I turned 18. But that never happened. I started getting hired at 14. And 15 and 17. 19 and 22. And each one was a, Meteoric, step up. I was on a fast track.
And while I really wasn't interested, in this video. Having done that so long ago. And for so many others. But I noticed something strange going on here with your video.
I was actually, really enjoying the sound and tonality. Of your voice.. And looking at what appeared to be a, Neumann, U-87 clone. And then you said it.
You are using a, MA-67. What? By, whom? You provided us with the model number yes. And the lucky manufacturer, is? However?
I was musing over how good your, narrative voiceover track sounded. And this is an imitation of a Neumann, U-67 not the 87! In cardioid only. But no wonder it sounded nice. As, I personally, just sold my two, Original, U-67 Neumann's. Since, getting them used in,, 1983. 41 years ago. What great mics. And I had a pair of U-87's also. A pair of KM-86's, also. And a vacuum tube,, U-56. And knowing what those sound like. Because I owned them for so long. And loved them. I heard something similar going on here with your MK-67. And I am kind of blown away. Because that's not a vacuum tube microphone. And yet? It has a fullness, a warmth, to it. I don't here on other people's, LDC, microphones. As they are all using,, only 3 mil thick, diaphragms. Some, even thinner at 1.5 mil. That hypes, the high end, unnaturally.
But the Neumann's use a, 6 mil, thick, diaphragm. And those do not sound, thin, strident, crispy, metallic, sibilant. But all of the thinner, entry-level, beginner ones, do. Ugh. They produce an, Ugh, sound. Every time you hear them. Ugh! What's with the high-end? Why so, wispy? What's that supposed to be? And you can't go wrong with a Neumann. But?
I thought your MA-67, sounded beyond amazing! They got that thing right. That's a wonderful tonality. And it cost what? What!? Oh my God! Are you kidding me?
I think that must have a thicker mylar/polyester film, diaphragm in it. I could be wrong? But I don't think so. I think, M-Audio, a few years back. Had released a, supposedly, authentic, U-67, vacuum tube powered LDC. Said to use a, EF-86, Pentode, valve/vacuum tube, in it. With a 6 mil thick, diaphragm. Just like a real Neumann. And then it seemed, to disappear. And now you show this MK-67. That's what? $90? And it sounds this good? So?
I think that, vacuum tube, 67 clone, failed. As I tried to replace my, TELEFUNKEN, EF-86 vacuum tubes. And I purchased a few pairs. To listen and decide. Which pair I would like better. As they were still being manufactured. 40 years ago. And so I got a pair from, RCA appear from, Sylvania, a pair from GE, a pair from Raytheon.
And I install those in mind Neumann U-67's. And they sound like dirt. They sound horrible. Awful. Unusable. I was wondering what the hell is going on? I had gotten four, brand-new pairs of American made vacuum tubes. And they all sounded simply horrible! Unusable! There's no way I could tolerate that sound. None. I was shocked, to my core. It left me no choice. I put the old, TELEFUNKEN's, back in. Oh! What a difference! Though they take a few hours to warm up to quiet down from, making internal noise.
But this taught me a lesson. About vacuum tubes. They are Not, all the same. They all have their own sound and characteristics. And I could not believe the difference.
So I think that M-Audio clone 67 failed. Due to, totally shitty sounding non-TELEFUNKEN. EF-86 vacuum tubes from, China, Russia? That can't possibly sound good. So I think that was scrapped. Then?
They simply paired up a field effect transistor. To use with that imitation, 67 style, capsule. And that did sound, right nice! I was duly impressed. And dumbfounded to see what it was! I mean give me a break? That sounds terrific! Not like other shitty, LDC's. With thin. Lousy thin, diaphragm's. I hate that sound! Yours does not sound like that.
Congratulations! You got this all, so right. I am duly impressed, Sir. That microphone definitely has a smoothness to it. You just never hear at that price point! You hear all of the thin diaphragm hyped high-end garbage. Ugh!
As mostly, male rock and rollers. Have already done substantial damage to their hearing. They don't know what the heck they are hearing? They are half deaf. Good thing they have a guitar tech. To keep their instrument tuned for them. As tuners you clasp onto the guitar neck.. Are too complicated to use for the average, brain-dead, rock 'n' roll, guitar player and musician. May they rest in peace.
I don't like it when they murder their own music.
RemyRAD
Nice recommendations. For EMD producers, absolutely buy an open back headphones. Invest in your Headphones as much as you can. You’ll never regret it. Speakers are not necessary even after many years.
I started with Sampson sr 950s, and dont need to upgrade. I love them for mixing, and mastering. I like to go back, and forth from Adams audio t8vs to the sampson headphones. great video! lets people understand there is great budget stuff that does the job great! Also your ears will develop after lots of practice, and know what needs done.
This is the same laptop I have been using since 2017, still works
Ableton live intro in so good for beginners, if its anything like the version i started on, its definitely worth it even for your first 6 months, currently using the LPK25 as well and its just spot on for quickly drawing up melodies too!
Waveform free is also pretty complete and has like no restrictions, definitely a good recommendation
Let’s be honest. $30 mixing headphones are not sufficient. If you’re gonna spend money, make sure you spend it on HEARING. and since most home studios aren’t treated, your best bet is good headphones. Audio Technica ATH-m50x or Beyerdynamics DT 770 Pro are perfect starter headphones, and well worth the $150-$170 price.
great video
Awesome bro❤💯👏🏿🇫🇯🇫🇯🇫🇯🇫🇯
Already suscribed! nice and informative video mate.. keep up the good work!! I hope you reach 300k anytime soon!
Thanks a ton!
useful thank you
Glad it was helpful!
@EdwardSmithMusic can you please make a review of the Mackie EM-91C condenser microphone ? Also keep up the good work !
thank you. shalom
A beginner can make music with a smartphone or tablet and headphones, these days, using a Mobile DAW like FL Mobile or Caustic. I started in 2006 with Dell Dimension PC, Sony ear buds and set of old 90s PC Monitors which actually worked pretty good until I broke them.
Great video! However, I'm already a bit further than just a beginner. Could you maybe make one of these videos, but then for intermediate producers?
Yes. I’m currently in my wedding week so it will have to wait a bit, but it’s defs on my list for this year 🫡
@@EdwardSmithMusic Hey congrats man!!
Love from India
Dude you were in emendy too😮
Howdy! I have a quick question; would you recommend the Melon UA-67 or the RODE NT1 Signature Series as my first vocal condenser mic?
Hey Ed, can you do a video on Mixers vs. Audio Interfaces.
That's what i've been doing for the past few days and i was trying to decide between Scarlett Solo 4th Gen and the iD4 MKII is 20$ more but idk which one is better overall and ATH M50X or maybe beyerdynamic DT-770 Pro 250 Ohm which would be more suited for recording vocals and mixing and for the microphone idk if should get the Rode NT1-A or i should get something like the LCT 440 PURE been trying to decide for days i saw a lot of reddit posts saying that the nt1-a is very harsh and sibilant on the higher end and that the nt1 would be a better choice but i don t really like that flat sound and i'd like something that has a more breathy/airy sound (i'm a male and my voice is not deep is more mid towards high and i m more into the pop genre and i only want to use it for vocals) what would you recommend considering you had experience with them
If i still want studio monitors.
Would you recommend eris3.5 gen 1 or gen 2 or the edifiers mr4??
Would be really helpful
Thanks Edward. I am from Kenya, setting up a small home studio. Do you sell used microphones?
Equipment in my home studio: Macbook Pro 2014, Ableton Suite 11, ESI U22XT audio interface, Presonus Eris 3.5 monitors, Arturia keystep 32
I'm thinking of buying the DT 770 PRO 80ohm headphones, KRK Classic 5 monitors (I actually have the Presonus E3.5, but i don't really like them) and finally I'm deciding between the Scarlett 2i2 and the Volt 1 or 2 interface. What do you think about it, can you help me please?

Can i ask you a q?
whats a good auto tone to use for a good price?
I'd prefer Takstar pro 82 rather than m30x, but the rest is pretty decent I think.
Which one best studio mointor speaker for home studio . presonus eris 3.5 , edifier mr4 & mackie cr-x 4 which one best for home studio plz reply
Reaper for the win on DAWs.
Fl studio, who even uses reaper?
-How about evo 4 instead of id4?
-That mic isnt available in my country what should i get?evo 4 mic(p2000) is that good?
Thanks:)
If you're getting started, just get Reaper. Take a listen to what Deadmau5 said about Reaper on the internet.
Are bose headphones good for music production?
Hi Edward. Which external hardrive is that in the video? @1:50
Can you also use a sound card instead of the studio interface? The interface is expensive
which external hard drive you suggest?
I just loved it🫶
Thanks!!
I own 6 pairs of the Audio Technica MT-20X for my podcast because they are good enough. I have expensive headphones, but I only use them for mastering. I also have expensive monitor speakers, but I use a set of 2.1 Logitech PC speakers and a set of Pyle Bookshelf speakers because I don't want to use my expensive monitors unless I'm mastering. Sure, if you A-B them the expensive ones sound better, but look at me, it's too expensive for me to waste on watching videos and listening to music. I can't afford to replace it. I also can't afford the time to switch the capacitors, even though they are cheap and I"m a computer engineer and it's not a big deal for me. Time is money.
I have a question for you - does any USB cable work with a USB mic
Hello sir I'm from Philippines. would you mind suggest me a better INTERFACE for music recording, Not expensive as Scarlet. I'll wait your response, thank you
Which software can I install as a beginner?

@@EdwardSmithMusic congratulations my brother..💪🏽🥰❤️🥰❤️🥰🔥🔥🔥🔥 So you back in SA?
We need to see what to buy on a budget for $1,000, $5,000, and $10,000- to see you build out a home studio for each of these budgets.
Great idea!!! 🙌🏻
What about a $100? Just for a laugh, (defo not my budget)
Do you know of a microphone stand that can carry the weight of the MA-67 mic? Preferably not a desk boom arm because i don’t have a desk, also i’d prefer budget prices as i don’t have too much to spend.
Do you want a standard mic stand or more of a boom arm? Here is a budget mic stand I would recommend - amzn.to/3IBBwJm
@@EdwardSmithMusic that one looks good, thanks man, just what i was looking for
sir please review maono au 902 and what we buy for cable length problem
Why not audient evo 4 or universal volt 1 ? They are new once
What’s a good budget microphone to get, I’m stuck between the at-2020, akg m7, Behringer c1 or c3 and the tascam tm 80. Which one should I pick and those anyone have any suggestions
at2020 all day, that's the best for the price, watch some video comparisons and majority, if not all will tell you the at2020. I bought one because I watched so many comparisons on CZcams and I was not disappointed. I watched a guy who does metal productions and he said thats the only mic below $100 he would buy cause the others he had in the shootout were too messed up in the high-end when recording an amp, only the at2020 passed and he usually uses $300 and over mics for it. and he bought all the mics on the list with his own money
Akg p120. Thanks.
Please can you share with me all those equipment names
do you like dt990pro?
Many home studios with good equipment end up costing around $15,000 or $20,000. If you had that amount of money to make your ultimate dream studio, what would your wish list be like?
Very useful video... Please suggest me a mic for vocal recording at a cheap price .. I'm from India
GarageBand requires a Mac and they're expensive.
Currently using mac m1 with fl studio (producer version) + AKG K52 headphones nothing more nothing less- can you please send me your unused or old gears please
What laptop did he use
Pls how much are this equipment
Tbh it's starting to feel like you've done this particular video over & over 😂.. It's still cool regardless
"And (so) today" - you know if you know =)
$200 audio interface to start? Get a Behringer HD204 for about $120, and if budget is tighter, the UM2 or UM22 for less than $70.
Don't buy a audient get a used focusrite 8 channel for $150 so you can record drums in the future without a big jump,
is that M-AUDIO BX4 Speaker on 4:44?
BX5 🫡
What is the desk chair you're using in the video? 👀
How many likes for a studio gear pls
Then what about me who trying to make music just using a cracked version of a DAW😂
ps: dont ever get presonus eris monitors, their frequency response is awful.
Bro I hope you'll notice me, can I have an studio recording that you're not using.
Whats a good software?
fl fl fl
if you are starting to work with BEST Gear than suddenly if you move to bad one u cant work , but if u start working with 4 gb ram laptop with shit i3 processor and mid headphones you can enjoy better gears, and also this is like leveling up , also not super good headphones, u don't need to have best headphones or speakers at the start cuz u don't even gonna feel the difference between good and bad,, good high end ,or good low end.
Im not saying don't buy , if u can just afford it , i just want to say that if u start with bad equipment or not super crazy just random equipment u also understanding improving quality by the time , everyone need time for improving as music producer im just saying this also helps to improve your ears, if you don't know what is bad, than you're never gonna understand what is good. You're gonna think that this is normal not good.
Man u just need a laptop and headphones anything else you will understand after time don't focus on shit , just get a laptop and headphones , id say its better to put more money for your laptop or pc rater than buying audio card when u starting making music cuz dying pc or laptop gonna annoying you and at the start you're not even gonna feel the difference between ur laptop audio card comparing with like apollo twin audio card.
Do ssl 12 work with MacBook?

@@dhtxprb362go for m audio solo it’s just 4500 and sound good for the price
Here I m from India sir will you please help me I m following you from first days
Get an ipad simple as that
If you just starting out i can recommend you little cheaper:
Microphone: BM 800 at $30 or MA87.
Interface: M audio m track solo/duo.
Headphone: Ath m20x/m30x.
Studio speaker: presonus eris 3.5.
Total: $150 around. Without speaker.
PC: get a 10gen motherboard integrated graphic and buy a Intel Pentium gold g6400 processor no need graphic card it can handle any daw without problem. It will cost around $300 complete assemble.
I would skip the studio speaker purchase. if you have $0 for room treatment, no amount of dollars spent on studio speakers is worth it. and eris is pretty terrible fwiw. better to get a better pair of head phones and then save up for room treatment + a good pair of speakers down the line.
She’s got her headphones on backwards 🤦♂️
Pls I wanted to ask if you could give me any music production stuff you don't need again if you could give me cause I am just starting out and I don't have any money to buy I only have a laptop
