FlexPVC Demonstrates the differences between the D (long) and A (short) versions of the inside ext.
zhlédnutí 145Před 6 měsíci
There are two different versions of the inside pipe extenders. The D version is longer and a bit more expensive. But it will fit a wider variety of pipes, especially those out of spec. The A version is a little cheaper but it's right on the money on the spec. If your pipe has a thicker wall or you buy from multiple PVC pipe suppliers the D version may work better for you. But both work equally ...

Didn't know there was an adjustable retaining ring until your video. Well done!
How much pressure can they handle?
Well it depends on the size. Look up the size in this chart and then the Sch 40 pipe rating. That will be the rating for the fittings as well: flexpvc.com/Reference/FullPVCPipeChart.shtml
I am looking for a preferably a 2 inch flexible Hose to join 2 pieces of pvc hard pipe that doesn't have much room between the 2 pipes. It's for my hot tub it needs to slip over both 2 inch hard pvc hard pipe. I can cut back a little on the hard pipe this is why I prefer Hose. I need to clamp it o both sides I tried your email it doesn't seem valid.
sure. see flexpvc.com/cart/agora.cgi?product=Flex_PVC_OVERPIPE-ByTheFoot That will do exactly what you are trying to do. NOTE: 2" pipe is 2.375" OD. If your pipe is 1.900" OD you don't have 2" pipe you have 1.5" pipe. So be sure to measure your pipe accurately. Or you can read the size directly off the pipe if you can see the printing on it.

thank you! I have wasted a lot of time trying to find "schedule 20", now I can search for schedule 100 or 200 instead. for a shopvac modification.
Actually you are looking for Class 63, 125, 100, 160, 200. In some areas of the country they call it SDR21 or SDR41 or even SDR32.5. You must be very careful. There are many standards out there and there is also SDR35 which is a complete different pipe. Not cross compatible with IPS Pipe sizes (Sch 40, 80, 120, Class 63, 125, 100, 160, 200, etc.) Almost all the pipe sizes and classes are listed on our pipe size and dimensions chart at flexpvc.com/Reference/FullPVCPipeChart.shtml

JMHO, bushing.
Wasn't confusing, but I'm in the business (and an ME). The reason this becomes an issues for venturies or aspirators, is the flow and backflow pressures are critical for proper function. Good Video - keep them coming.

Great video on unions - relevent and straight to the point. Other videos I saw left out some basic information bringing about confusion. Thanks to you, I successfully installed a stormwater pump which I can often remove for maintenance.
I am going from 3 to 2.5 on my pool (before the pump). I believe it is drawing/suction. What is the fitting called? I can’t seem to find one.
If you are going from a 3" pipe (3.5" OD) to a 2.5" pipe (2.900" OD) then you use a reducing couple: flexpvc.com/cart/agora.cgi?p=PVC-Fittings-Couples-Reducing&p_id=429-339&xm=on&ppinc=detail If you need more info, please contact us by email or phone:flexpvc.com/Contact.shtml Thank you! 🙂
Unfortunately, I don’t have a lot of room to work with. I have a 3” 90 degree elbow going almost directly to a 2.5” 3 port valve. I can reduce before the elbow but that would increase the velocity going into the elbow which would increase the head loss. Is that correct?
If your valve is like ours it's 2" slip in or 2.5" spigot. Or 2.5" slip in or 3" spigot. see flexpvc.com/cart/agora.cgi?p=PVC-Valves-3way-Diverter&p_id=600-0401&xm=on&ppinc=detail If yours is like that you can just chop it off and use a couple to go over it. You didn't explain what a "nested" fitting is.
Sorry. A nested fitting is "spigot size" on the outside and "fitting size" on the inside. Ie, a pipe would go into the inside or you can insert/glue it into the next size up fitting. Typical is 3/4" and 1". The 1" is a spigot size (1.3125" OD) and the inside is a 3/4" slip (1.05" ID.) HTH. Thanks for the question.

If you can dry it out completely 3M 5200 might fix that.
Hi can you use a flexible pvc joiner instead of unions for swimming pools then.
Well that would depend on what you mean by "flexible pvc joiner." I'm not aware of any such product. And a Union is something that is 3 parts. Two tail pieces and a collar. It's meant to be used to connect and disconnect easily. Flexible pvc pipe is meant to be glued into something like a union. Might be best to contact us directly on this question. Hello, thank you for the video! It was exteremely informative. Would you also be able to use the flex pipe as a sewer line for a house? Thanks again!
Yes and no. If it's buried you would be okay. But if it's exposed there is an issue: Over time, sewer gases will permeate thru the pipe. 2-5 years and then you will small sewer smell. If there is only a short section of pipe exposed, it should not be a problem, but it's something you have to consider.

what is the fix if the water is spraying out and not exactly where the pipes connect
That means there is a crack in the pipe. Same method will work for a temp. fix, but if you have a cracked pipe, it's best to cut it out and replace it. But you can use this method to buy you some time. See our other video on this subject. czcams.com/video/zUagwOZkGCw/video.html
My Union is leaking even though it is tight. Could it be the O Ring? It’s on a discharge line for a sump pump so not under any pressure.
If it's leading it's either the O-ring or the glue joint. The O-ring is the easiest to check and fix. So I'd look there first.
Thanks for the video. I had a small crack in a fitting (sprinklers). Cut a bigger piece of pipe. Slit it. Heated it so it would flex and put it over break after cleaning and applying glue. Quickly put a clamp over it. Left it for the cure time and it held. Saved me having to dig out and change fitting.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I am a weekend warrior. You have finally explained something that I wanted to hear for a long time. Personally, I do not like Teflon tape. There may be times when someone may not wrap enough layers of tape on the threads. Or too few. This will only confuse the installer (i.e.; Is it too tight or not tight enough). Pipe compound gives me and others the proper feedback we need to continue on or to stop. I think Teflon tape is popular, especially among many contractors simply because it's not messy and looks aesthetically pleasing. I will now keep a low priced but very effective container of pipe dope on the shelf in my shop and move the Teflon tape to a less conspicuous spot in my shed. WELL DONE!
Thank you. I admit teflon tape is less messy and the cans never dry out, but I still think pipe dope is a better way to join NPT fittings. 🙂
Great explanation!!!! Thanks!!!!
Eric, When cutting the zip ties if you cut the ties 90 degrees from the direction that you cut them, it will minimize or eliminate the sharp edge so you don't have to file it down.
Thanks, I'll give that a try.
Thanks!!

I appreciate the video, it helped a lot, God bless America and CZcams... And the rest of the world. I have a pvc union installed just after my Backflow preventer for my sprinkler system. Not sure why they would install a union, i understand the union's purpose but not the contractors purpose. I was thinking on making a cut and installing a tee for a blowout port but i gotta do more homework. Thanks again for the video.
Study carefully, how the BFP is configured and installed; most often, male threaded ends join to some ball valve closure at each side, and the female threaded ends are joined to some male connectors which are soldered, or cemented to the pipes. When the most common failure occurs, freeze cracking of the valve near the ball, there is no way to easily remove just the valve, because trying to rotate to remove is prevented by the other end. You should appreciate that someone added that union, because that will let you separate that end, and even if the other end is threaded you likely can rotate the unit to remove the assembly and replace separate components without any cutting, de- or re-soldering, gluing, etc.
Yep, love unions. Just a little extra money now to save a lot of headaches and money later.
