      M Key is standard on modern name brand boards. I don't even really question it.
      I do however read the specs before buying, and it'll tell you. It might not say M or B, but if the spec refers to PCIe and the number of lanes then it's M. B is for Sata only slots.

    • @DATT
      @DATT  Před 11 měsíci +1

      It can pretty much run all the Ryzen CPU's if the bios is updated for it.
      For this build, it got a 3800X, but these days I would look at 5000 series for this board.
      It's tricky to know what CPU's the board will run until you know what Bios it comes installed with.
      The bios version should be listed on the box somewhere, assuming of course, you can buy the board before you buy the cpu. If you can get the bios updated on the board, it should run any AM4 cpu.
      I would assume a board bought now would be up to date. Worst case scenario, you have to bring it to a local shop that has an older CPU in stock to get it updated, if you don't already have a spare older CPU.

    My first nvme install.
    I'm watching this because I was wondering if the thermal pad comes into direct contact with nvme manufacturer sticker.
    Its odd to remove the pad protection sticker, only to place the pad directly over another sticker, thats likely made of cheap plastic, and some form of adhesive that probably melts under the heat.
    Got me scratching my head about it.
    Thank you for clarifying this!

    • @DATT
      @DATT  Před 6 měsíci +3

      Yeah, the pad is suppose to contact the top of the SSD. And no the SSD sticker is not really made of cheap plastic, in fact some are foil lined to help conduct the heat. They've thought of that. The SSD's tend not to get that hot anyway, the thermal conductivity is maybe not as important with an ssd, as much as just making sure there is somewhere for the heat to go so that it can be removed.

    Hey, you said you would only use 1 of the psu connections. Why only one? Would you not need/want both?

    • @DATT
      @DATT  Před rokem +2

      It's one of those things I've been doing so long, I cant' quite remember why.
      As I recall, it has to do with the 8pin having more that enough power and the second connector being a bit of a gimmick.
      Also, the second connector might be good on the odd chance AMD was to release a higher wattage CPU or something like that.
      Like back in the bulldozer day when AMD dropped the 9000 something that needed 225 watts.
      You might need both connectors if you are into extreme overclocking, and I mean extreme, the kind you're not using a off the shelf AIO to do, but for a 3800X running stock, one 8pin is more than enough, and it saves having another cable to manage.
      AFAIK, there is no harm in connecting both if you want. I would double check the manual to be sure.

  • @rafaelbachmann6721
    @rafaelbachmann6721 Před rokem

    question about the power connection for the cpu. is it enouf if you connect only the 8-pin ore does the mb need that extra 4-pin as well? (top left, powersuply for CPU) :)

    • @DATT
      @DATT  Před rokem +1

      As I understand, it depends what you're doing with it. If your going to run a heavy duty CPU, and OC the snot out of it, with some sort of heavy duty cooling, then it could use the extra power. For normal use, with an average cpu, I've never bothered. Even my 3950 I'm running currently, I'm just using the one 8 pin.

    • @DATT
      @DATT  Před 4 měsíci

      Yeah you can get away with it, as long as it's supported. Note how I made sure there was the proper pad under the SSD to support it so it doesn't bow?
      IF you gave put something under it, that's safe to stick on electronics, to support the SSD, you should be able to sandwich it under the heat sink.

      I couldn't tell you for sure. You buying this at a store or online ?
      This system was a commission, not mine, so I don't have it on hand to check.
      It should say on the box what BIOS is on it, so you can go by that if you can see the box or that spec listed online.
      The way I see it, the 5000 series has been out for a while now, so unless this board is used or old stock, there is a very good chance it's 5000 ready. According to the Asus website this 5600x has been validated since BIOS 1004 from August 2020. It's a roll of the dice but with really good odds.

    i know its been a year but does having two nvme have any cons? i have a nvme right now im thinking of adding another one thats 2TB, but i’m worried it’ll change my pcie somehow haha ( thats what my brother said will happen )

    • @DATT
      @DATT  Před rokem +3

      Ah, it depends on the board. However, most all boards, the first NVME slots jacks right into the CPU, so anything else you add won't slow it down.
      The First PCIe x16 slot for your video card also jacks right into the CPU, so none of the NVME slots will effect it. The only thing is, if you have a board with Two x16 graphics slots, the second slot will often half to the total of those slots to 8x each. So if you put an NVME with an adapter in that second x16 slot it'll steal bandwidth from your GPU.
      Now, most motherboards so have multi NVME slots, so assuming you aren't using a fancy adapter, that's a non issue, but what happens is, that second NVME doesn't jack into the CPU, it connects to the chipset, that routes various board functions and shares bandwidth. So yeah, the second NVME might run slower. Will you notice ? Ah, not so much unless you have a crazy setup and all your PCIe is loaded up, AND, whatever you're doing uses all those addons.
      I got 3 NVME in my personal system, 2 of them are on chipset ports. I put anything speed priority, like my OS and Games on my main NVME, the second are just for editing, and extra.
      The manual will usually tell you how the PCIe is all routed, and will warn you if one will effect the other. I'd go ahead a add a second drive, it won't slow your system down, jsut what happens on that drive won't be quite as fast as the main one, in theory, in practice, it'll be hardly noticeable.
