- Hi guys,
If you're looking for a B550 motherboard then the B550-A is an excellent choice. Not only does it come in at a reasonable price, but it looks great and is easy to use.
Today we're going to be unboxing, setting up, installing, updating the BIOS and all that jazz.
Purchased from Box.co.uk who are an excellent supplier of PC hardware whom I have been shopping with for a couple of years.

man this is a very helpful video. Very simple and straight to the point
SUPER super helpful dude. I appreciate it x1000
Just bought this board at Micro Center.. paired it with a ryzen 7 5800x. Worked flawlessly out of the box. Have it setup with a 3070ti! First build came out soo good!
I was planning to do a build like this when you put in ur cpu did u have to do a bios update or did u jus put on the cpu n was automatically able to do everything eith no problems?
@@MrPerky no bios update needed, worked straight out of the box! Which made me so happy because I originally had an MSI gaming carbon wifi b550, but it could not get it to update the bios. So I returned it and picked this up. Only thing I wish it had with built-in wifi. But I just added it thru pci-e. So no biggie...
@@cthomas2812 oh that’s awesome glad it worked out for u thank you for letting me know no cuz i was worried at 1st
@@cthomas2812 what Ram are you running on this? I kind of want to buy it but idk if it will support faster ram
@@jeangervacio7225 I am only running a corsair Vengeance Pro rgb kit. (3200mhz) 2x16GB. But it'll running 3600 kits no problem, you should be fine.
Great video, keep it up! You will reach 100k subs in no time!
Great, straight forward video. Thank you!
Very useful, pleasant and laconic video, thank you!
Appreciate the video helped me a lot on my first PC build
Thanks, glad it helped. Happy to assist if you run into any issues
Very helpful thanks boss
Thank you!! ill be using this video when I buy mine :)
this is a very solid video, exactly what I was looking for. keep it up!
Thanks and glad I could help :)
After 7 years of usage, I decided to switch out my old i7 4790K with an Razen 7 5800X 3D, bought this Mainboard for it, and I'm completly hyped for the final build. My PC Dreams come true, hopefully I get my hands on a cheap 3090 soon.
Did you have to flash the bios?
@@rah5500 yeah, I bought the Asus Rog Strix B550-A Mainboard. Flashong BIOS is really easy.
@Adam B34 the Clown nope, non issues with the MB or CPU. My Wifi is kinda slow, but I'm sure it's has nothing to do with my config. More a Problem of the pcie wifi Extension card.
@@devultra1125 did you have to flash the bios before putting the cpu in or does it also work after putting the cpu in
@@1laned There are lot's of tutorials on how to do it. I would recommend to watch them before flash the bios.
I honestly don't really remember anymore, but I'm pretty sure the whole system was build together, so yeah, CPU was installed already.
But as suggested, watch some videos-
Hey do u need just all the top power connections with the PCI I have a 6 connected but left the other two like u showed in the video
Your videos helped me a lot, I am building a all white corsair build and I have this motherboard but with the 220t case, can you do a review on the Corsair 220t case?
Glad I could help. It is a case I have looked at getting before but have just not got around to. Might add it to the list of videos to do ;)
Nice video! From the looks of it that 4 pin power port next to the 8 pin and the heatsinks is unused? My last board only had 1 8 pin connector so this had me stumped
Yeah it appears on a lot of new boards. Only used for serious overclocking so 8 pin is all you really need. That said, if you want to put an extra 4 pin then it won't do any harm.
Nice video! Do you think this mobo would work well out of the box with the AMD Ryzen 7 5800x? Well since it’s been out for a while.
It should do, but you can do the BIOS Flashback feature if not :)
thanks so much for this! I was getting a lot of conflicting info about if it would support a ryzen 5 5600 out of box and you helped, thanks!
Buying stock now shouldn't have any issues, but I know after Posting the video, some people said it didn't work because the bios version was an early one. The board has been out a while so should be absolutely fine now. If not, updating the bios with flashback is super straightforward
@@WayneWebbFilms Thanks so much!
Hey Wayne, great choice for aesthetics build :) what would be your insights for ROG B550-XE model? Do you think it is worth getting over -A
There are a few main differences 1) Aesthetics 2) XE has wifi & Type C (front panel) 3) cost, the XE is £30-£40 more here in the UK 4) the 'A' doesn't have RGB.
Personally, I would go for the XE because it looks nicer with the RGB etc and has Type C and wifi
@@WayneWebbFilms I've also heard the VRMs are better perhaps that could be a plus too
Better VRMs are always nice :)
Nice vid, what case is that it looks huge
It’s the 5000d airflow
Awesome video Thank you I just wanted to know what the Program renames the CAP File too as I need to do it manually as Im using Mac. for Flashback my B550A
A year later building my first pc picked this up plan on putting a Ryder 7 5800x 3D in with 32GB of RAM 3600 and a 6800XT
Thanks bud. Just bought the a version of this board and this will be useful. Do you find that the white/silver still works in a white build? Is the silver very noticeable?
Hi, I think it works well with the silver, but I would have preferred more white on the board to truly say it fits in really well with a white build. This is mostly due to the PCB being black. The Asus Prime boards probably work best with a white build.
Hi wayne!,where's the PC box name?
I got the same set up as you pretty much and I was wondering did you plug your elite capellix into the cpu fan header or the aio pump header?
Hi, cpu fan header
Did you buy any extension/adapters so you can use all the connections on your front panel of that case? I'm buying the same mobo and case for my rtx 3080 white strix edition oc
Hi, do you mean the Type C connector on the case and it not being a feature of the B550-A? If so, no I didn't. I just used the rear IO.
Followed the instructions and the bios seems to be installed as green light no longer flashes. However, when I turn it on cpu fans run for a second and stop and more importantly monitor, keyboard and mouse are not recognized at all. Monitor flashes for a bit indicating HDMI connection and goes blank while mouse and keyboard dont flash at all. I went with the latest as suggested, but it's a pretty new version - 2023. Should I try an older one? Any ideas how to fix all this?
More of an MSI fan personally i don't buy many ASUS boards but this board does look good
Fair enough :) MSI is a bit hit and miss for me, but I'd take it over Gigabyte ;)
Hi. how do you make the motherboard RGB light up and there is a 1 x Addressable RGB extension cab but where do i connect it ?
need more details on the cable connections please
Is it supposed to be flashing or steady green light is fine?
Where did you connect your usb 3.1 type c to on the motherboard having trouble finding a home for the little guy
EPS connection is just 2x 4pin like on 7:05 ?
Hope it's 5000 serie ready .. just bought this board and bought a 5800X3D
i just purchased this mother board was wondering it it would run a Ryzen 7 5700x out of the box or would i have to flash the bios witch in my opinion is a pain in my ass
Do I have to buy the small black screws separately? Because I don’t have any
hello there great video and great review! Im planning to buy a 5800x and pairing with a Gigabyte B550 Aorus Elite V2 , or this Asus Motherboard. The thing is that i dont know how are the temps on the Vrm of this asus! it its capable of holding well a 5800x since its a hot cpu?
I don't have any numbers for temps and I'm unable to obtain because this went into a build that I sold on, but they should be fairly decent even with the 5800x.
If you're planning on heavily OCing then going for a higher tier board would be advisable but using stock or pbo with decent case airflow and I don't think you'll have any problems.
@@WayneWebbFilms the case i already bought it, its a Phanteks P360A white! And its not for overclocking, probably will be for undervolting! My doubt its just on the vrm if they where good enough. I saw reviews daying very good about the aorus elite b550 vrms, but the board its black, and i wanted white, thats the reason im considering this one!
Personally I would use the B550-F as a reference because its essentially the same board. That does really well but the Aorus is on top by looking at Hardware Unboxed testing amp.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/jaadr5/b550_motherboards_vrm_cheatsheet_comparison_by/
What do you do with the antena❔ is it the only way you can get Wi-Fi❔
Hey, i really wanna know how u connected the fans to the motherboard. Are there 2 fans headers on the motherboard?
There are the following fan headers.
1 x CPU Fan connector(s)
1 x CPU OPT Fan connector(s)
3 x Chassis Fan connector(s)
I usually use a splitter or hub to minimise running cables all over the case.
Been looking for a white board thinking about getting this with a rtx 3070ti vision , ryzen 9 5900x , 32 or 64 3600 Corsair vengeance ram. Not sure if I should wait even longer for the prices to go down for the gpu or just go for it 😵💫🤔
Go for it if you want AM4 or hang on for AM5 later in the year. Prices will be higher for the newer stuff and I'm sure it won't be a good value ie if performance goes up 25% it will probably cost 33% more. Tricky one depending on how keen you are to build right now
What is the cable you are attaching at 6:34? Is that for the aura rgb lights on the mb and where are you plugging them into? Cosair controller
I'm pretty sure that's the Corsair fan hub that comes with the case. It looks like I'm putting it into the CPU_OPT header but I'm not 100%
What case did you install it into and did you run into any problems wiring in anything?
I used in both Corsair 4000D and 5000X and no issues in either
So o just got a asrock phantom Rx 6800xt to go with this and it won’t boot.. am I supposed to set the pci to 3rd gen or 4th?
So does this support the 5000 series out of the box, or do i need to flash the bios?
Mine came supporting 5000 series out of the box, but there is a chance it may not if you get older stock. If it works, great. Otherwise, update it. That said, you'd probably want to update it anyway, so that you get full ram support etc.
Hi, do I need to update bios with this Mobo if I pair it with r5 5600x? Great video btw😊 I just need to confirm it
Hi, no need to update because it supports the 5000 series out of the box
@@WayneWebbFilms oh thank you very much😊👍. I plan to get this Mobo cause it's literally the most beautiful white I have ever seen for amd
It's a nice looking board. There are the Asus Prime boards which are also white if you're not aware.
I just bought this board & the new 5800x3d. Although, the motherboard box says its 4000 ready do you think I might have to do a bios flashback since the X3d is kinda still new? I'm bit worried to do it since seen some boards get bricked by the bios update although, not seen any with these two combo.
I would say that an update would be required. Never had an issue with a BIOS update, but if you follow the instructions, you will be fine
Great vid! - was wonder if this motherboard will be fine with a ryzen 5 5600 out of the box?
It was for me and a lot of time has passed since its release, so I think you would be unlucky if it didn't. Ask the retailer if it is ready out of the box. If not, they may offer a service to update it for you.
Thank you replying! I just bought mine today at the local retail store and forgot to ask. It does say AMD ryzen 5000 desktop ready on the front of the box
What happens if the bios isn’t updated and I’ve installed my CPU?
@@WayneWebbFilms .
Ahh I figured it out, saw a barcode sticker on the motherboard that shows the bios version when it was shipped and is indeed needing a bios update unfortunately. Cheers for ur help tho!
Hey mate, hope you respond to comments a bit, just had a couple questions since i havent unboxed mine completely yet, first off is that my motherboard looks very hard grey more than white, and another thing id like to know, did yours come with tape seals on the box? just been a bit sus about my order thats all, especially with some weird stains on the cpu socket that i have been told are just signs of some kind of manufacturing cleaning residue, but yeah mine didnt come with any tape seals and i haven't taken it out of the plastic yet but it looks super grey, is it just a tint on the plastic or a cover maybe? i saw yours lit up way more white on its own out of the plastic, if you respond cheers appreciate it.
They could have changed the design slightly. Might be worth reaching out to seller to see what they say. The stains look like a red flag
might just do, cheers@@WayneWebbFilms
Okay so you need to download the bios for the 5000 series using another computer correct? Sorry new to all this. Then does this have to be done with it all assembled and hooked up to power then as well?
Last questions, how will I know if it supports 5000 out of box and I’m assuming the flash drive used must be empty correct?
Yes from another machine. It's best if the drive is empty but so long as the update file is in the main directory and everything else is in a folder you should be fine.
You can do this with your machine all set up or can do it prior to beuilding
I’m having a really hard time overclocking the cpu in the bios. After setting the AI tuner to manual, the cpu core ratio is still locked to auto…any tips on how to unlock that setting ?
Where I change it the multiplier to 42, you simply click on the box and type. You will need to tinker with voltages if you go above 4.2 from what I set 1.25v. Tbh you're best leaving to auto and PBO2 will take care of things.
I am trying to connect a RGB SW cable on my ASUS B550A but I can not find where it goes. Can you help me??
@Webbtech I need some help with regard to ram support for this Mobo as i am planning to buy this. I have ADATA XPG SPECTRIX D60G SERIES 16GB (8GBX2) DDR4 3600MHZ RGB Memory AX4U36008G18A-DT60 already with me. But this particular Ram model Number was not provided in the supported list for this motherboard in official Asus site. So I am confused whether to go for this motherboard since i am not sure if its gonna support the Ram I have with me.
I think it will work, but it may not run at 3600. Ram support is a whole heap better nowadays compared with the 1st gen. The QVL is only of ram they have tested and works. I don't believe they list it if it runs at say 3466, could be wrong. You could try pcpartpicker and see if it comes up. As with anything, nothing is guaranteed but it's up to you of course. Good luck :)
woah, where are your cable sleeves for your 24pin mobo connector and 8pin for gpu? if you use them it'll straighten them out and make it look clean.
The cables came with the Asus Strix 850w PSU and are quite flexible and limp tbh. Yes the cables could be tidier and I'll fix them the moment GPU prices return to normal 😉
question, what are the recommend drivers to download? just lan, chipset and audio right? do i need anything else
Personally I'd update everything via Armoury Crate, but that's just me
Is this a new model of the b550-A. I have seen some other videos where they do not have a 5000x badge ?
It's not a new model so to speak, but is newer stock so they will have updates it either at Asus or the reseller
To update BIOS, is necessary to be format the USB, OR i can copy the .cap file to the USB even if i have other files, like programs ?
Thanks for the video!!
no, you have to format the USB as FAT32 and the only file that should be on there is the .cap file (make sure you run the rename program first)
I'm someone looking around at b550 motherboards for a first build.
Why does Asus Tuf & Strix line-ups on pcpartpicker has those notes? Such as USB 3.1 Gen 2 to 3.2 Gen 2 header adapters being required and is that a major issue? I plan to put a motherboard in O11 Air Mini or Meshify 2 Compact.
This one in particular doesn't have a USB C header for your case front panel, but does have it on the IO shield (back of the motherboard). I wouldn't pay too much attention to PCPP. Btw, the Lian Li Mini Air is amazing and I highly recommend it.
Have you run into any problems with the Ethernet port on this board? I’ve seen several people discuss how the intel Ethernet chip used on this board has given them problems
I haven't had any issues, but maybe I'm just lucky or like with anything you only read about problems of the few
Yep, got the same issue where the Ethernet port isn’t working because of outdated drivers but I can’t update the drivers because of no internet :/
Download on your mobile and transfer over?
did you figured it out how to get internet?
@@titi8764 did you?
Just a question, my board came ready for 4000 and 5000 series but I have a ryzen 5 3600 when I tried to boot it up my screen was black and the light that says vga litt up is that normal when you dont have the correct bios?
i think you still have to update bios to work sys properly
Having only 1x ARGB header can you add 6x 120 rgb fans?
I have an ARGB hub(1->8) that I can add up to 8 argb cables but I dont know if only 1 ARGB header can power up all these leds.
I had the same question with a B550i motherboard and 6x Arctic ARGB fans I have just done a build in and...there was no issue at all and mine were daisy chained ie without a hub. The power, as it were, comes from the hub and that will be powered by SATA. The lighting is just that, lighting, so your header will be absolutely fine.
what do i do if the green light doesn’t flash when updating bios.
Glad I watched..forgot to take the tape off the heat sink
Hello, man! I am with the same Mobo and want to ask you... Does your AIO shield ROG logo light? Cuz mine don't want to light up... Aaand do you know how to fix it? :/
Unfortunately there is no RGB on the B550-A, I think they missed a trick tbh.
What tool did you use for the M.2 screw??
Just a screwdriver
I have a very similar build. I use a Ryzen 7 5800x with a GeForce Rtx 3070ti vision. I reset the cmos, readjusted every piece and updated the bios with the flashback and I am still getting no display, any tips?
I assume you have done the GPU as well. Have you tried it in a different pcie slot? Have you put the power connectors into the GPU? I've done that before ;)
Is your hdmi/dp cable fully in?
Are the cables plugged into the GPU and not motherboard?
Do you have other cables or ports you can try?
Is the system powering on normally?
Just a few things to look at
does the usb with the bios update have to be empty or can i put it on a hard drive with other stuff on it
I think you will be fine if it has other stuff on there. Just make sure it it's in the first folder by itself.
Where does the second M2 goes?
But the screws for the innstallation in a case is included right, or do they come with the case?
Hi there, screws come with the case. You will get the m2 screws but that's it.
@@WayneWebbFilms ok, thanks
when i installed my 1 tb NVME i used the slot at the bottom, by any chance do you know if i can get another 1tb NVME and install it at the top with no issues? i heard from somebody if i have 1 already installed i cannot put another one because it will give me trouble
You can put another one with no issues
Can I directly download the latest BIOS version or should I download another version first? I'm about to build a PC but for the CPU to work I need to update/flash the BIOS.
Download the latest version and do the bios flashback
is there a VRM zone temperature sensor? since there is no sensor in В550 F gaming
I don't believe there is, maybe someone can help answer the question because I'm no longer in possession of this board.
If money wasn’t an issue, would you have opt for the asus x570 prime pro? It’s white but $100 more.
Money hasn't been an issue when doing the videos as such. I try to cover a broad range of products and I had wanted to check out the board since it was announced. I personally prefer the X570-F but would have certainly considered the Prime Pro if not wanting to use the B550-A. Hope this answers your question.
Hello , I need help on the wiring process I have the same board and case :( I’m having trouble finding where to plug everything on this mother board

I gather you resolved the issue
Hello there, I have this exact model and my BIOS hasn't been updated since I bought it in early 2021. It's still on version 1805. My question is, do I have to update the BIOS sequentially or is the BIOS cumulative and I would only need to download the latest one?
It will say if you need to have a particular BIOS number before updating. On this occasion you'll be fine just going with the latest.

Is that m.2 nvme sata or sdd?
What cooling are you using I can’t seem to find a cooling fan or something that fits/ is compatible with the B550 motherboard
In this build I'm using the Corsair H150i Elite - you shouldn't have any issues with compatibility with most coolers on the AM4 platform. Are you looking at AIOs or Air Coolers? What case do you have? What CPU are you wanting to pair with this?
@@WayneWebbFilms really anytime of cooler as long as it fits the B550 motherboard and is able to cool a Ryzen 9
Im still stuck on bios what to do next?
What kind of case is that?
hi, i'm a little lost; do i need my computer up and running while the bios is updating (usb method) and I turn it off and on again?
If doing the BIOS Flashback, turn the pc off, put the USB stick in the BIOS port, hold down the button next to the port for a few seconds until it starts flashing, then leave everything alone for 10-15 mins whilst the update process happens.
Can you please help me I just bought atx mid rosewell and a Asus b550f trying to get a view on my screen but doesn't show anything I'm wondering if it the power connector I don't think I set right because I hold the power to turn off and nothing happens but when I push power from supply being off it comes on and my fans also
Have you hooked up the front panel cables correctly? Do you have any lights on the motherboard? Is your power supply turned on?
If so, I would unplug all of your power connectors on the motherboard and GPU and reattach making sure they clip in place.
im going to buy this and will have 6 corsair fans was there enough fan headers for this?
You'll need a hub or splitters. Normally best to allow you to control fans more easily
Wait I just bought all the parts of my pc do I update the bios first or download windows 10
Doesn't really matter, the bios and windows installation aren't mutually exclusive. However, if you need the board to be updated to recognise your ram or CPU then you'd need to do it beforehand
Would this motherboard work with the EVGA supernova 650w SFX psu? I also will have a 3070 ftw3
Definitely fine, the only issue you may have is cable lengths because the SFX cables are short
If I am upgrading to this Motherboard (going from B450M Micro-ATX), would I have to change the BIOS settings with a USB stick before installing the CPU (I have a Ryzen 5 3600 CPU) ? Or do I simply just install all my current parts on it and then start up like usual then do the installation after? Thanks in advance!!!
You'll be fine just installing that CPU. Go into the bios, check what version you have. Compare that to the Asus website and check if you need to update it. You won't from a 'get your system up and running POV', but you may need to to run your ram at full speeds or to support the 5000 series CPUs etc
@@WayneWebbFilms Thanks! But just to clarify, I can install all of my parts, turn everything on, log into windows etc and then update the BIOS thereafter? Or would BIOS need to be updated before I install all of my parts and boot up for the first time?
You can do it afterwards. Do your build and then do the updates
@@WayneWebbFilms Amazing!! Thanks so much!!
Hi, I am having a difficult time trying to get my 3080 vision oc 10gb gpu to be seated. Either the raised with with the "Game on" is getting in the way or there is something I am not seeing. but I cannot get the bracket flush with the case (corsair 4000d air flow white edition). I am afraid I will break the gpu by forcing it to sit all the way down in the PCI x16 slot. Any tips? I really don't want to mount the gpu vertically.
It should mount without any real pressure. Could be a couple of things. 1) make sure the pcie tab is fully open. 2) your mounting bracket for the card might be coming in contact with the pcie cover below the GPU. Maybe remove it, install your GPU and then put it back carefully before screwing the GPU in place.
@@WayneWebbFilms Thanks for replying, It was catching on the motherboard. First pc build successful!
Where is the gen 3 nvme slot?
Hi! is it normal when your bios is like not flashing it's just steady?
Did you figure this out?
Do i have to update the bios if im using a 5600x? Thanks
If it has the sticker to say it supports 5000 series then no. That said, if you're having issues with ram not running at full speed etc then updating to the latest BIOS is advisable.
I building my first pc with this MOBO I bought 6 ARGB fans with compatible aura sync do I need to buy an RGB controller or can I just install them directly on the MOBO ?
You'll need a hub unless they daisy chain to one another
Do it have a WiFi support?
Hello, do i need a bios update for this board if i plan to use an amd ryzen 7 5800x? Thank you in advance!
If it works out of the box, then no. That said, you should update to the latest bios once you've built your system so that your board supports the latest hardware
I dont think mine came with any screws, what kind are those at 6:08?
The screws in question will come with the case and not the motherboard. You'll get screws for the m2 drives etc but that is about it will all motherboards.
Hey, I got this same board and similar corsair aio. I can't figure out how to mount it to my motherboard. How did you do it
The AIO uses the standard standoffs that come with the motherboard. Attach the AM4 bits and then attach to the motherboard. I'm pretty sure I did a video on the H150i Capelix and that shows the install process.

Hey wayne. You didn’t mention about the mobo nit having internet and you didn’t show how to add one or what.
Hi, not 100% sure what is being asked here. The motherboard has Internet but I think some people were having issues with LAN drivers. I didn't come across this issue because I was using a USB WiFi stick and downloaded the drivers via that so didn't encounteran issue. My advice would be to download the drivers on another PC or mobile phone, transfer them across and you should then be fine. Hope this makes sense.
