    Always ignore any MTA employee interfering when you are legally photographing/filming a station. If they get aggressive, note the car # he is in and call the cops on them. I did this in 2015 and a conductor was schooled on the law.

    As a former station agent, when I worked extra this was a scary spot to work at midnight… just you and the rat’s. You didn’t leave the booth without a cop for bathroom relief. I always bought lunch or snacks the area is desolate, at least it was in the nineties.

    I remember back when i was younger using this stop and 149 and riding/watching the r142a's. I dont know why but the propulsion just sounded quite soothing and comforting to my ears. Anyway you're doing a great job with the series and cant wait for the nicest stop next

    • @MysticTransit
      @MysticTransit  Před 3 lety +4

      Oh I LOVED the R142A's on the (6). I used to love seeing them. Those are the trains I grew up with. I understand why they had to be transferred to the (7) for the R62A's, but the Traction Motors on the R142A's are just AMAZING.
      Also, thanks. I'm tryna create a cool and interesting series here, and build a big NYC Subway/Transportation in General type of channel!

    • @ItsJaceYoutube
      @ItsJaceYoutube Před 3 lety

      @@MysticTransit No I don’t think that’s right, since the R142 version of the 7 trains are R188. Though, the models look the same. Sorry if you didn’t want to be corrected tho. ;-;

    • @MysticTransit
      @MysticTransit  Před 3 lety +1

      It is right. The (6) originally ran R142A’s. They were transferred to the (7) for its R62A’s because of the CBTC installation along the line. They were renamed the R188’s, due to them getting extensive upgrades. (CBTC Installation, a change to the Traction/Brake controller, the addition of a ‘C’ car, and more)
      The R142’s remained untouched throughout the transfer, and stayed on the 2/4/5 Lines.
      The R142 and R142A/R188 look different from each other.
      The R142 has a black cut in the shell over the front door, while the R142A doesn’t. They also have different Traction Motors, being manufactured by different companies, and a the HVAC is much louder on the R142’s. There are also differences when it comes down to the external LED’s.

      @@MysticTransit Not all the R142A cars were converted to R188. As you know the last 220 cars (7591-7810) were left as built and now run on the 4 line. The R188 contract included 38 new C cars, conversion of the 380 R142A cars, and 88 new R188 cars (8 11 car trains).

    It’s so odd seeing the comments about the station. I actually grew up in the building right next to the station, lived there for 20 years (90s into 00s). It felt hella isolating, like a ghost town which was weird because a few blocks away was St Marys Park and Gompers High School. No one ever walked that way. It was so normal for me, the desolation, and I didn’t realize how abnormal it was until I moved away.

    @YAZZYUTUBE Před 3 lety +6

    It's not that it is the least used station on the 6, the issue is very few people pay the fare at this station. So it appears to the MTA, when they look at the swipes, that the station has low ridership.

    • @MysticTransit
      @MysticTransit  Před 3 lety +4

      Well, I had to make a video on it being the Least Used due to the ridership numbers. I'd suspect that even with everyone using their Metrocards at all the stations, this station would still be the least used. The gap is very large.

    I used to get off on this station stop back in the early 80s while I was working security for Shopwell during the overnight hours. Before you got off at that station, you had to make sure you contact someone to meet you there, fortunately, I had a nightstick.

  • @emilynace3090
    @emilynace3090 Před rokem +1

    149th is my stop, and I've always found 143rd utterly weird. Everything to both the east and south of it is industrial. Everything to the north of it, you just use 149th st. To the west, you have like three residential blocks where it makes sense to use 143rd, and then you hit St Mary's park. I almost never see anyone get on or off there from the train, and walking by it the area is always completely deserted. No one has any reason to walk by there almost ever, it's not on the way to anything, just this industrial stretch connecting Southern and Bruckner.
    I'm pretty sure that the reason it's there, is it's technically the closest station to St Mary's Park, and even then only counting the baseball field down in the corner. I think most people would be fine with using 149th or Cypress for that.
