  • It’s no secret that Seiko is my favorite brand of all time. However, in recent years the brand has really upset and disappointed some of its most ardent Seikoholics.
Today we're talking about the now discontinued Seiko SARB033, as this watch holds the key to understanding Seiko’s past, present, and future. We’ll take a look at the history and evolution of the brand, including the reasons behind some of their recent and most divisive changes. Are Seiko’s glory days over? Or have they just begun? Join me and watch to find out!

I bought a SARB 033 on your recommendation in 2016 (before the price increase). To say the least, I am well satisfied. To realize now that it is a "cult classic" makes this purchase more than just another daily wearer. This may well have been the best purchase I have ever made. Thank you.

If you want a Rolex, buy the Rolex.
It's not a bad watch, and will last generations. Don't let others sway your opinion.
If you want to try a swiss watch I would recommend: "Tissot Gentleman powermatic 80 silicium"
Tissot is a watchbrand with a rich history, it's a watch that give you 100m water resistant, a sapphire crystal, display caseback, 80 houers power reserve, and using Silicium as the hairspring (not magnetic). The caliber is an upgraded ETA 2824 with a 28800 bph. The faster the watch "runs" the better a watchmaker can regulate it.
As a watchmaker, the Tissot Gentleman is the Swiss watch I would recommend at 1000$

I think Seiko knows they need to evolve their products because they have had such recent success with low end watch collectors. Those low end watch collectors won’t stay low end forever and seiko wouldn’t want to lose that opportunity to sell them something else to another brand.

I still think they have budget offers though but we're just spoiled. How many reviews of Seiko watches used to say that the bang for the buck is too good to be true? The price increased by $100 and we think that it should now have sapphire glass or whatever else when most other watches in the same price bracket don't. The closest I've seen from swiss watches is lower end Tissot or Certina but Seiko still offers way more variety than both.

Picked up my sarb033 about 2 years ago now. I remember being astonished by the price and underwhelmed by the flash.
I was young (20) and I hadn't owned many watches at that point. The moment i realised I loved my sarb was when I was driving and I noticed the way the light glistened off of the metal. I then started noticing the small but extraordinary things the watch was doing, from the loom, to the reliability and then finally, I understood why the sarb was the perfect watch for me. It's one of the best options for the everyday. The 'blandness' I initially experienced opened to the scrutinising of the smallest parts of the watch and I found it difficult to call anything on it half assed.
Also, it has some weight to it which is nice :)

Sarb035 eventhough only difference is dial color, it looks like a completely different watch and gives completely different feeling when on wrist. Both sarb033 and 035 are strap monsters. I have both and feels like I have two different watches because of how it looks on different straps and how the eggshell white looks under the sapphire crystal. Once the light hits it, you'll feel like you're wearing a $10k watch. The black dial looks sporty and the white dial looks dressy. I wish you luck in purchasing 035. You will not regret it. Just a tip, when you first see it, it looks dull but wearing it for a day or two indoors and outdoors, you'll see why many people loves it. It belongs on straps for sure over bracelet.
