    Bought and sold my SARB035. Was a great Sunday watch for me.
    I've seen (dubious) evidence that people are paying $5k (yes, 5000 usd) or are prepared to pay $4k + for used SARB037's.
    Personally I think its rediculous. These folks are forgetting some simple factors: 1) the SARBs were dressy tool watches. 2) the 6r15D movements were never really perfect. 3) the original RRP wasn't much over $350.
    I get that some folks want clout. I think these prices are actually being artificially inflated by unscrupulous flippers. I wouldn't be surprised if some folks have just redialed a SARB033/035. If you told me that my $300 sports watch was now worth $5k to some rich idiot by virtue of the fact it is was pink. I'd consider it despite not being proud of that fact..
    For me discontinued Seikos are not worth their retail price anymore. The movements have been upgraded (although I think the 6r35 is frankly lazy) and the supply of new watches is decent. You shouldn't need to spend at or above retail on any Seiko that isn't an LE.
    That's my two cents anyway, sorry for being to thale party.
    Nice video Josh!

    As someone who owns both the SARB033 and SARB035, I agree with this video. I bought my SARBs way before they were discontinued and therefore worth the price. But the current prices are just crazy. If I were to buy a SARB alternative today, I'd go with either a SARX or even the SNKL23.

    The sarb033, 035, and 017 are hyped for good reason. These are readily available around 4-600 every day and I 100% believe even at that price these sarbs are worth that price. I agree the Oceanus is a good competitor for the sarbs, but at the end of the day none of the others you recommend come close to the sarb’s. Comparing quartz and autos can’t be done in my
    Opinion

    This is great but I think for a watch to be a Sarb Alternative it has to be 38mm or smaller. That is one of the defining features that people love so much about the sarb is that it is small with a small lug to lug. Still I love some of your picks.

  • @gpearce11
    @gpearce11 Před 2 lety +2

    Great video, but I've got to say that your Tissot pick ain't it for me. Instead, if you want something like the Sarb033 or Sarx045, for around $750, you can't beat the Tissot Gentleman Powermatic 80.
    I know you mentioned Tissot's Powermatic 80 watches in general, but not only is the Gentleman very similar stylistically to the Sarb033 (and Sarx045) it also includes an upgraded Powermatic 80 Silicium, with a Silicon hairspring for improved anti-magnetism and accuracy. There's also a quartz model, if you like the Sarb033/Sarx045 design, but don't like automatic movements.

    • @Tyler-sl6vg
      @Tyler-sl6vg Před 3 lety

      @@HorologyinSanity Sure. That sarx035 definitely has a nicer bracelet which is really important to me but ultimately I found it a bit too angular. I also have switched my sarb033 onto a ginault ocean rover bracelet for its final form which is fantastic with the glide lock. The sarx also has a great crystal (completely disappears) and a very nice dial. I think what throws me off about it however is the proportions. Where the sarb has a stout bezel and some nice case overhang I find the sarx has a thin bezel, large face and the 40+ mm diameter is a little much for the 20mm bracelet width. It might come down to me just liking a everyday / dressy watch at well under 40mm. Sarx035 at the end of the day is beautiful and I would easily recommend it but the sarb is my fav. (Btw I paid under 500 cad 5 years ago however!)

    I have both the SARB033 and 035 and love them. I agree that the prices for them have gotten out of control since they've been discontinued, especially the much more popular 033. Another good alternative is the Seiko SZSB011 to 014. Very similar to the SARBs, though a bit larger at 40 to 41 mm case size. They can be found at Sakura watch for around $300, which appropriate given they have the lesser 4R35 movement.

    I bet if u go to a baseball game you save a few dollars by taking up the cheep seats money may be your game watch collection not seiko is pure history all that crap will be forgotten in a few years if it’s desirable when available than that just grows and when hard to get price becomes secondary look back to go forward money out

      That's awesome! You're the type of person that I talk about near the end of the video, where I think this watch is definitely a good pick for you then. I often make my decisions using deduction, meaning I compare all of my options and then deduce which one I think is best. Sounds like, in this case, you've deduced that the SARBs are the best option for you, which I think is cool. Greetings to you too, my friend.

    Seems like a double edge decision. Only an enthusiast knows the difference between a Japanese Seiko and a Chinese Pagani. But, I don't think civilians watch CZcams videos about watches to take advantage of this excellent information. Then of course, normal people don't spend $700 on a SARB033. Haha

    Check out Islander ISL-36 and ISL-37. SARB aesthetic and form, with high-beat movement at old SARB price.

    Seems like every single CZcams guy on CZcams starts his videos with "What's up....blah blah"
    I challenge you to try something different. Literally anything else other than what's up

      @Fmart Mart "Seems like every single CZcams guy on CZcams starts his videos with "What's up....blah blah"
      If that were the case, Teddy Baldassarre wouldn't be inclined to start most of his videos with, "So...", but more remarkably, Jody at Just One More Watch wouldn't deliver his patented, "HELLLOOO and welcome..." greeting for his videos. So what you said above is exaggerated and incorrect.
      "What. Is. Up, my watch friends" is basically Josh's own catchphrase, and I don't mind it. And your negative-nancy comment is the only one I've see in response to Josh's opening. And that's no exaggeration

    A couple of mm does make a big difference.... But I don't need the look of a Sarb anyway. It's nice.... But it's not THAT nice. Seiko isn't nearly as cool as they think they are. They we're good when they really we're good bang for buck. The Zelos is cool. So is the Vario.... Reminds me of Oris. Microbrands are awesome. Add long as your buying it to just it ... Not "collect"

      @@Agent-vj3ns I thought that might bother me because I'm a perfectionist in many ways but I bought one in black, blue, and silver, and as the second hand clicks around the dial it hits on some markers and misses on others. After the first few minutes I never noticed it again so for me it's a non issue, and as far as looks and accuracy goes they're not that far behind my Grand Seiko SBGA407 "Skyflake"
