Students should save up for watches, so they will price match their turtle necks at Walmart. 🤫🤑

I started my collection with a Patek Nautilus after i robbed my local post office.
Just kidding,Seiko is life when you start collecting.
@Nero Kasso , haha. I like what you did there. Don’t know if anyone else got it but I thought it was funny.
Old ladies are easier to knock over. I'd start there before you hit the Post mate.
Citizen have much more accurate watches at the entry level.
I started with pulsar, but my first somewhat legit watch is dan henry 1964. Im gonna try to get the presage over the summer.
My first decent watch was an Omega I found in an antique shop for $30. I thought it was a cool-looking 60s watch but it turned out to be a 40s bumper automatic. This was in the 80s when people still thought digital watches were a pretty neat idea.
Just don't by a Daniel Wellington, MVMT, Vincero, The Fifth, or Nordgreen and you are off to a good start as a high school student.
Bulova, Timex, and Casio make cheaper watches with much higher quality than those crap "fashion-watch" brands!
@@johnsmith-gs4qf that isn't cheap, but affordable.
I am 16 and Irecently bought a Ted Baker TE50372002. I know this is not a watch brand, but I saw it in a department store, I loved the design and it was just 35 bucks. It didn't looked bad quality so I just bought it, even if I was no sure about the brand. I was doing some research, but I couldn't find anything, so I'm a little bit worried about the quality . What do you think?
@@RigoOXx It's just a watch and you're young. Enjoy the watch for as long as you can as long as it makes you happy, that is all the matters. Then, when you make your next watch purchase, do a bit of research and find a watch that not only looks good but is reliable with a great movement.

I'm with you. Orient is the main answer
Seiko
Yeah tell me about it Seiko is high end to me.

Seiko
My Son graduated High school 5 years. ago. I researched watches, including this channel, with the simple goal of wanting to give him a gift that would be respectable. At the time I could buy a Seiko monster 2nd gen for $199. I got one for him. I got one for me... because, no more child support.... i told him if he wanted to go to school call me, I will pay you but not your mom. That was another story. Anyway, This got both of us hooked on watches. Those watches have skyrocked in value. but the cool part is the simple fact that neither of us will ever sell because of the more emotional value that lies beneath. I feel really good as a parent giving my children an item they don't want to sell, but if they had to, the would be taken care of. That is important to me.
I should have had your lawyer.
You just got lucky.
I am from India and have just started my collection with Casio f-91w hoping to be able to buy a Seiko someday Good day
Great watch! I own a few Seikos as well but find myself going back to my trusty F-91. Truly an iconic piece!
I own a F91w from the year 2000. I was in hight scool. I wear It in university and during my military service. And now i wear it when i go to the job. It still work amazingly well.
My f91w is now more than 3 years old! But I can't wear it for now, because the strap broke and I can't find one that looks good with it. From India too btw!
The band on the f-91 was too small for me
@@uuuultra same here but I just made a strap for mine the strap was leather
Great video! A breath of fresh air compared to videos which call 2000$ as entry level
Urban Gentry says Citizen is better than Seiko for entry level watches. File that one away folks. That's gold.
Fact..iv got two skx 007,s.. the promaster is better made. Fact
By entry level did he mean USD 50-100?
I far prefer Seikos to Citizen personally.
I wear one of my Citizens 2 or 3 days a week - usually my Divers...even if I'm just using the bezel to time when my frozen pizza is done.
Just bought a Promaster Diver in titanium, really clean, classic diver style with an Eco Drive movement
Just managed to purchase my first Tag! I've been restoring and reselling watches during college for a while now and it's great to be part of such a brilliant community. The watch is an auto 1996/2000 Limited Edition Monaco in case anyone's wondering.
It's heartwarming to see so many young people interested in watches. Horology is like wandering into a building and you keep discovering new things with every door you open.
Only TGV considers 15.5 minutes a jiffy. Great content though.
When I was schoolboy in 1969, on a school trip to Switzerland, I spent my entire spending money on a Tissot Seastar with a smokey metallic dark blue dial.
Awesome! I have a SeaStar from the 70s... fantastic little watch. Good taste, for a youngster!
Do you still have it Charles?
@@mike8631 Hi, I wish I did still have it.
Great video!! Currently in my first year of University; I received a Tissot Seastar 1000 for my 18th, however, I get as much joy out of wearing my Casio F91w as I do my Seastar! One of the many great things about owning a more 'budget' watch!
Im into watches for 2 years now and I built a nice collection. Now I’m 17 years old and a G-Shock was my first watch. YOU really inspired me a lot and I’m a fan of your channel since then.♥️
You're a young man. My advice don't get into the cheap or low end "entry" watch trap. It's better to have one (Rolex, Grand Seiko, Nomos, Omega, JLC, any higher end Swiss...in due time) than to have a bunch of TAG's, Squale, Christopher Ward, Seiko, or unknown $300 - $1500 brands. They won't last and will not hold value. This mistake and trap becomes apparent when you take a "affordable" watch for service. For example : Squale = $300... cost to service $250 - $350! More than what the watch is worth. If you want something that will last, and get a great bang per buck. Go for pre-owned watches like Speedmaster, Seamaster Omega, Breitling, vintage Date Just, Explorer I pre-owed Rolex, Pre-owned Panerai Luminor. All between $2000 - $5000 tops, full kit and mint. You will thank me and be glad once you get one. No rush, just enjoy your first watch collection, keep it, take care of your beginner watches, and work/save for that luxury grail. Once you're well and ready for one.
@@Milofchg and to buy a vintage watch for 2000-5000$ you should be experienced like an expert to avoid any Frankenstein watches, and there would be a lot of risks rather than buying some of the new Seiko 200$ for example, and it would be a lot cheap to maintain it rather than vintage one, and i believe vintage one would be needed to be maintained more frequently than a new one. You talk from your own "belltower", no one would thank you for that.
M Riley yes you’re right. I know that. Seiko is one of my favorite brands. I love it, not only because it offers big value for low money but also because of the extremely rich history of it. I would never consider investing in microbrands an also never do impulse buys. But thank you tho👍🏼
john m very true! I have the seiko Pre-Sarb which is the SCVS003 and Damn it’s a rare piece and very looked after.
@@Milofchg true I can just recommend nomos I wore one from my uncle and now Im sacing for one allready got 700 from the 1400 and Im currently 15 btw
I love the way you give care and appreciate many watch brands others just infinite because they aren’t high end or popular!
The Seiko SNK809 was the first watch I bought myself when I got my first job. I got it for 75 bucks, and I still wear it to this day. Great video, as always!
I've recently started getting into watches and enjoy your videos. I'm also a high school student who will be graduating this year, so as a graduation gift my parents bought me a watch of my choice. After watching several of your videos to help me decide which piece I wanted, I finally chose the Seiko Sarb033 as my first automatic watch. It is an amazing watch and hopefully after saving up some more I can purchase a second piece from the options you showed today. Keep up the great work!
Just received an SKX009 for my 21st birthday...absolutely besotted with it!
Darren Kennedy Many congratulations. It’s a sweet watch, regardless of price.
So happy to hear that.
May it bring you luck, adventures and more happiness!

I’m actually same age and have a few watches now! A lot of brands mentioned in this. I recently got myself a Bulova (the Bulova devil diver 98C131) But so far in my collection from past 6 months I got a Rotary Aquaspeed (Swiss made Orange strap automatic), Citizen pro-master (BN0100-51E) Victorinox (241765) Now I’m looking for my next watch, what would you guys recommend?
Mike D Looking for automatic watch upto £500 everyday wear watch preferably really and I typically go for metal strap but don’t mind a leather strap
Great video! I’m 14 and I have learned so much about the world of horology from you. I bought a Hamilton Khaki King after seeing your review and I love it! Thank you for what you do!
I own a Casio a158w, a Seiko snk809 and a Victorinox Chronoclassic (this was my first of the three), each very different from the other, and I love and enjoy all of them. Great video as always. Saludos desde Guatemala.

I’ve just started out on watch collecting, and my first three watches were Citizens (the pictured Nighthawk and the rose gold perpetual calendar) and a beautiful gold and blue Bulova Marine Star. Now getting curious about vintage Soviet brands and exploring what else is out there at my price point but I feel like I’ll always like Citizen and Bulova. Love the history and the attention to detail. They feel beautiful to wear.
I love the variety you provide in your lists. Thank you.
I actually started my collection with a Timex and an Orient Bambino thx to you, and it's great !
I love it, I was so late to them in my watch collecting journey, you started strong, enjoy!

In this very moment I am modding my Seiko SKX006 that I got today. And I love every single bit of it 😍🙏
I’m 14 and love horology, this is great as you don’t see many videos for watches on a budget!
This is an outstanding post. He doesn’t piss on lesser watches and he really gives a wonderful explanation on the history and background of each of these watches. Really well done
I just bought an cheap Timex and am mightily impressed by the Indigo feature.
My $50 Expedition still holds an important place in my watch rotation. And when it gets dark, Indiglo to the rescue. Lume is nice, but Indiglo rules.
My dad gave me his before i went camping for a week end. I fell in love with it how simple it is and the glow. Unfortunatly it just eats batteries now so ill have to take it somewhere for a service, but still out of all the watches ive seen and used its my faverout.
The main downside to Timex is they're really noisy.
Hello my friend, and hope you are well!
Had a young man stop me yesterday and asked about my Submariner...said it was his long-term grail -
Assured him he would get there and then complimented his Seiko turtle, which I could tell made his day -
Just goes to show that we are all on the journey, and everyone had an origin point in our shared hobby -
Thanks for everything you do for our community - be well sir --

Good day to you too Sir.
This Is what I love about our community, true appreciation for horology. I've had enough of snobbery, this is where it's at.
Nice!
I'm a collector and really enjoyed that you included Orient and Swatch brands to include in a collection. Keep up the good work.
I'm surprised vostok wasnt on his list. It was one of my personal favs when i started my collection
I got 7 watches in 3 months and it's your fault:((( 4 Seiko, Hamilton, Glycine and Tissot...and counting. Ciao sei il numero 1!!!
I'm so pleased with my tissot seastar I'm glad you included it TGV thanks 👍
As someone who recently bought a Maverick Black Edition, you mentioning Victorinox made my day.
Great suggestions even for someone in their mid-thirties with disposable income. Everything on this list is worthy of buying, wearing, and keeping around.
I've always liked having a decent-looking analog wristwatch and have been wearing an Invicta pro diver (yeah, yeah, I know) for a few years. But I'm only just now starting to get interested in watches as a hobby.
Great list. I will certainly be buying several of these.
I would only add Vostok for entry level, lower cost option. Glad Bulova made it on the list, that sweeping quartz hand 👌 Great video 👍

I’ve been collecting watches since I was 5, and your channel never ceases to amaze me with new and wonderful content for my education. Please consider a good review on the Bertucci watch brand; they’re simply an amazing affordable and quality timepiece.

Hi Tom, I also just turned 21,which watch do you recommend? I work at a restaurant as a server.
I’m wearing the Orient Bambino sir! Bought one after watching your video on them! 😊
Vostok watches definitely should have been mentioned.
Your videos have motivated me to take my watch collection to another level! Feels good to now buy something that not only looks good but has history as well. By the way...your watch and turtleneck combo is spot on! Looking sharp !

The Urban Gentry is THE best horology channel on CZcams. Whether you're a watch-snob, a seasoned collector, or a newbie, all types from the whole spectrum of horology is discussed here. Seiko has been part of my past having seen my Father wore 5's all the time. It was for me the ultimate everyman's automatic. Keep up the great work!
As a teenager i have a casio F-91w an skx007 and just ordered a seiko 5 diver today
Stonerboy the f91w is a solid watch man, it's the most popular watch in basic military and most only replace it for style reasons
Nice!
Started with a little Hamilton Jazzmaster, now I'm looking at a Cartier Tank. What a journey.
Definetly subscribing! Very good videos and explanations for me as a teenage watch

I was watching this video while using my Bulova Curv and you brought a smile on my face when you recommend it. Most of my collection was stollen while I was away on holidays and when I found out I was so fourious that I bought the curv i had been checking out without thinking. Since then I´ve been trying to rebuild my watch collection and still the Curv is my favorite, even more than my Tag Heuer Formula 1. Bulova is one of my favorite watch brands
I bought a phoibos voyager. Honestly, I am really happy with the quality. Japanese mechanism, sapphire crystal, 300m water resistance...all for £200.
I started my collection about 2 years ago with a bambino.
Today I have 2 bambinos, a modded mako 2, hamilton khaki auto, alpinist, spinnaker Cahill 38mm, and a accutron spaceview. Its not a problem i swear...
Great collection, take care about your wallet 😆
I just recently found this channel and love the information you share! I’ve always liked watches but just now trying to actually learn about them and the brands. I’m not a high school student but also don’t have a Rolex or Omega budget. My favorite watches in my collection that I think look really sleek are a ladies Victorinox Classic Chrono, Hamilton Jazzmaster, and for a sportier look - my Tissot T-Race. The GShock are also a favorite of mine. I’ve shelved my Apple Watch, which I love, for these more classic looks recently.
I love how Casio and Victorinox is so selfaware and in touch with their own DNA! Great vid and absolute legends mentioned!
I'm nearly 18 and over the last few years I've collected a few Longines and just got a vintage Zenith
The new GA-2000 g shock is the best choice for 2019 highschoolers imo. If youre a few years out of high school try out a Hamilton khaki king

Hello Urban Gentry, I'm a highschool student and just wanted to pass by to thank you. Because of you I got into watch collecting, round about have a year ago. I remember watching this video that inspired many of my purchases. Up to this day I picked up the Seiko skx009, G-shock Dw5600bb, Casio A168 and Orient Sun and Moon v3. Right now I'm considering buying the Orient Tristar with the blue dile :)

I've had my black Orient Ray II for almost 6 years now. Can confirm, it's an amazing watch.
This video is great because I want to expand my collection.(I am 16)
It‘s such a cool hobby to collect watches. I had my 20 birthday a few days ago and bought my first swiss made watch, the Tissot PRX Powermatic 80. Excellent beginner watch
I just stumbled onto your channel. Used to collect watches, had 32 at one point, but sold them when I moved overseas for work about a year ago. I only kept a couple of G-Shocks (MTG-B1000B-1AJF and GXW-56-1BJF) and my beloved Omega Seamaster. Your video stirred up a lot of fond memories. You've got a new subscriber. Cheers, mate!!

I'm in senior year high school and started to get into watches since I received a beautiful Citizen chronograph from my dad. Just bought a Seiko 5 sports diver and loving it! Looking to get a casual field watch possibly Timex or Seiko 5 snk809 soon. Watch collecting is addictive and so much fun :D
I find your channel very informative and inspiring as well, keep up the work!
Finally I have being waiting for this video in time, obviously awesome video as always
I know this video is a tad older, but I’m a 15 year old watch enthusiast. My dream watch is a Rolex Datejust with the 1 Carat diamond bezel And 2 carat diamond hour markers, black/purple gradient face. I don’t have a job. I’m in no position to get that watch anytime soon. I buy a lot of Invicta, (don’t hate, I genuinely like the brand) August Steiner (less known Swiss brand) and I like both of them. I get complemented a bit on them, and I feel confident and comfortable wearing them. These brands that were mentioned in the vids are ones I will be picking up when I can, but my biggest thing is that people get too worried ab what others think and say. If you like the watch, get it. Ok people hate hate hate invicta but I really do like the brand and quality. Buy a watch because you like it, not because you think others do
Focus on your finances as soon as you get out of school. Save and invest money. Then later on you'll be able to afford it
I’ve been into them for around 4 years now and im building my collection. So far i have:
Seiko SNZF17
Seiko SKX 009
Citizen Calendrier
Citizen Military style
G-Shock G9000
And my most recent purchase was out of my work bonus money a Tag Heuer Formula 1 caz101k.
My next purchase will be a Hamilton or a used Omega.
Thanks for the great videos. Your channel is great.

Go buy yourself a Casio F91W . Use it excessively to remind yourself of the time and how much time you have to eat/sleep/study/uptime/downtime to remind yourself that the time itself is valuable , that the time you used to get the money is more important than the money you used to get that time.
Whats up with the smiths everest Review you talked about in your christmas Video? Btw i am 20 and love your vids!
I could totally relate as a high school student. Thanks for the great video !
Excellent video. Probably my favourite ever. Getting younger folks in the hobby or just to appreciate their watch and the wonder of timekeeping is awesome. I would also recommend Bertucci watches.
