  • In today's Gentry In A Jiffy (GIAJ) I respond to another frequently asked question, and share my 10 favorite books on watches and horology. When I visited a Rolex boutique they asked if I wanted a catalog, I said yes of course, I expected a pamphlet, and they brought out a thick catalog with all of their modern watches, I love looking back at it, it reminds me of the happiness from when I got to view some of my favourite watches.

Love your content and love your praise for first responders (both philly PD and previously NYPD)...howeverrrr as an NYPD cop myself , police don’t blast the siren like we hear in this vid (we give a few whoop whoops as we get around anything hazardous ) Those are emt’s in ambulances you’ve been hearing. Please give a shout out to the real unsung hero’s , those underpaid, over worked front line life savers. City emts!

..you know, i would second this...in this respect...as a m/c rider i wear a $25-$65 quartz, under my wrist...but i've read testimonials of m/c police officers who wear Rolexes dayin/dayout...would be fascinating to know what police/fire/men/women are wearing on the job !

"British Military Timepieces" by Konrad Knirim - comprehensive, very well illustrated. The original text was in German and the English translations can be a little bit clunky. But it's still the best there is on the subject, in my humble opinion.

@@theurbangentry It's a real goldmine. There are so many odd little subtitles in the world of military watch collecting. For example, nearly all of the 1953 Omegas ordered by the RAF were re-dialled with tritium in the early 1960s - but a very few "escaped" this, and retained the original radium dials. If you can pick up one of those at a good price it's a slam-dunk down at the bank! (Although an anal guy like me would have some reservations about the safety of radium.)

Really need a new atlas map for your wall with Britain in the centre very unbecoming for an English man abroad :)

I remember as a kid (i'm 39 now) those thick german neckermann books or magazines. I've always looked and browsed for the watch section.
Could've been the lingerie section too....
