Alice Springs residents 'leaving in droves' because they 'no longer feel safe'

  • Residents in the town of Alice Springs are leaving in droves because they no longer feel safe amid the high rate of crime, according to Alice Springs Mayor Matt Paterson.
Mr Paterson said the community wasn’t ready for the alcohol ban to be lifted.
“We need to go and introduce alcohol management plan straight away, and we also need more resources such as police and health workers in hospital,” he told Sky News Australia.
“When I say people are leaving in droves, they are also police and health.
“Those two services are completely under-resourced, so if something does continue to go wrong, then you know who knows what will happen.”

I'm an Alice Springs resident of 35 years and a home owner for 20. I've been broken into 8 times in the past 6 years. I'm amazed at the tolerance the community overall has shown about these Aboriginal kids who commit all the crime. We know that government weakness and community services who receive massive funding but produce no results contribute to the miserable lives these kids live. Finally after years of building fences and shutters to protect ourselves and our property Australia is hearing the truth. To be slammed by racist reporting by the ABC is a kick in the teeth our community does not deserve

While the violence against aboriginal women and children is one of the major issues the biggest problem in Alice Springs is the violent crimes being perpetrated against Alice Springs business owners and residents by aboriginal youth and adults.
Until the aboriginal communities actually take responsibility for their own behaviour nothing will change. No amount of money will change their behaviour. Australia can do nothing more to help them, this is all on those communities.

If you were raised by parents that said it was ok to take drugs, do prostitution or steal etc why do you think a baby who knows nothing would automatically say stop and report his/her familiy to the police? There are plenty of people in the world who have done wrong in their lives but have turned it around. Yes if someone is born a psycho you may have a point but that is so rare and not relevant to this topic.
There are different ways people can do harm or evil in life. Doesnt necessary have to do with theft or murder. In the end in Australia you have 2 choices. To maintain the european style law and order or go back to the aboriginal values. There is probably a reason why aborginies traditionally had limited finanicial wealth. It just complicated things and led to more crime.

Pets Credlin interviewed an indigenous man who went out and talked to young boys starting to cause trouble during the interview. Within minutes they had calmed down and went away. I think the Alice and other places need the aboriginal men to step up and be role models, local police and/or bring in their aboriginal law. Be someone these young kids can look up to and want to be like them! Surely there are older men who could capably take on these roles! It was heartwarming to see how quickly those young boys calmed down.

The Critics of the Voice to Parliament across Australia are in no way starting a culture war.
You Mr. Prime Minister are the one who
is starting the culture war if a culture war is starting at all in Australia.
In your National Cabinet room you have three flags posted in a display for to all see across all of the media.
Now Mr. Albanese kindly visit those three flags in your National Cabinet room and immediately uproot the aboriginal identity flag posted in the middle of the flag assembly wherein the Australian flag has been outcasted to left in that flag assembly.
The middle position in a flag assembly and especially in the Australian peoples parliament is the command position only for the Australian Flag and no other flag has the power or status to usurp the Australian Flag 🇦🇺 from being posted in the middle position in a flag assembly.
The Aboriginal flag and the Torres Strait Islands flag are only citizens identity flags.
These two flags are not formal flags.
These two flags don’t even have a formal right to be posted in the parliament but are both unreservedly welcomed into the parliament as a mark of respect.
The aboriginal citizens identity flag has no
legal right or status to usurp the middle position of the Australian flag in the Australian parliament.
Now Mr. Albanese. Get moving and place the Australian flag back into its command position in every flag assembly posted throughout the Australian parliament.
And be reminded that you are the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Australia and are definitely not the Prime Minister of the Republic of Australia which does not exist.
Mr.Treasurer! You are next because you are doing exactly the same thing with the assembly of your three flags in your treasurer’s office.

The ignorant and discombobulated, the racist and those who are just playing anti government politics for the sake of opposing anything they do. Morons like you have no conception of the difference between a constitutional head of power and legislation made under it . Recognition of the oldest living culture on earth in the constitution and allowing them to be consulted about legislation will give them a chance to help us all address the indigenous disadvantage. We can walk and chew gum at the same time. Also if this year we were voting on putting a power in the constitution to deal with industrial relations ( on the assumption we didn’t already have one) would you seriously suggest that we would need to have the full Fair Work Act first? The details of the voice will be arrived at by our elected representatives in Parliament after lobbying from us . Opposition to the yes case is disingenuous and supported by stupid people., racists and those with evil political intentions. Congratulations to the Liberal Party premieres of NSW wand Tasmania., the WA Nationals, Bridget Archer, Andrew Gee, Senator Bragg and many other conservatives to come as well as BHP, Rio Tinto, Tennis Australia and the AFL and many more companies and organisations to come who don’t want to see us disclosed to the rest of the world as a pack of redneck racists who would have been comfortable living in apartheid South Africa.
