    • @2UpAndOverloaded
      @2UpAndOverloaded  Před rokem

      Thank you David. Yes, I (Marisa) plan on learning how to ride a motorcycle, but considering I haven't yet learned how to ride a bicycle, it'll be a little while. Also, I don't think I'll ever be able to ride our KTM just because it is so tall and in an emergency, I would rather get help via our satellite messenger than risk putting Tim on that bike with me driving... Could become a recipe for disaster. But either way, I will learn one day how to ride just because I like motorcycles and I like learning new things, and it sounds like fun! Thank you so much for watching and for the good advice!

Yeah, it's for sure a terrible place to get sick like that, and I definitely had a moment of panic. Honestly, nothing like that has ever happened to us before, it's always me who gets injured or sick, not usually Tim, especially not in such a debilitating way. My husband and I spent 18 months on our motorcycle traveling the US and Canada. I got sick with pneumonia while in Pittsburgh and was down for about a week. I’m thankful that I was in a major city where I could get medical treatment and that I had the comfort of a hotel. I have to say, I was a bit nervous for Marisa watching her walk through the wilderness alone to fetch water for you. I too do not know how to operate our Triumph Explorer. We will definitely look into the iodine treatment. We also have a little UV light that zaps most bacteria in around 20 seconds, but the problem was the water was so silty. If it came down to it we would have drank it either filtered or boiled. But the little iodine drops sound pretty good as well.

    Ever thought of buying a small egg shaped travel trailers to pull behind your bike? Then you could have more food, water, supplies, and heat! With a small power source like the YETI power bank with a solar panel, you’d have all the power you need. Coffee pot, heat, cook plate, lights, computer w/ movies, and heat or air. Let’s not forget a nice bed to be sick in!! Lol 😅.

    Many of us have been in a similar situation, very sick but a long way from anywhere.
    While it is bad for the one who is sick it can be worse for the healthy one trying to do what they can to help but mostly worrying about all the "what if's". (If there is someone else along that is) When we are alone and very sick it may mean lay there and either recover or die, or try to get to a town.

      Hi Derrick Murphy, yeah it definitely was not nice to be sick out there. So the water source was about two miles away, and McCarthy was a bit farther than that. The woman that had originally told us about it said she thought it was a half mile away, but clearly she'd only heard about it and had never been there herself. And to answer your question about the KTM, she's got about 25,000 miles on her now! Thanks for watching and for your input, and happy new year to you too!!

    I don't know if this works, what if you use those old time coffee filters or paper towels in a colander to filter out the big stuff. I guess you're limited on what you can bring.

    • @2UpAndOverloaded
      @2UpAndOverloaded  Před rokem

      We actually have a water filter, but it would have clogged easily. If there wasn’t a fresh source of water we would have absolutely used it. But the coffee filter trick isn’t a bad idea to get ride of most of the large debris!

This method you can also use where you have very very dirty water but than it will take just longer to fill up. Funny thing was laying sick down at the same place 😁. I wish you both save travels. Marisa can’t ride a bicycle 😔 let alone our giant KTM. But she went the extra mile to hike all the way to the nearest store.
      We carry around 4 liters of water while on the bike, and try to camp by fresh water streams or will stock up at a store if we know we will be camping a few nights.

      @2UpAndOverloaded  Před rokem

      We do have a filter, and would have used it if there was no other options. Fresh water streams and lakes are great for that, but the lake at the end of the glacier runoff was pretty dirty and it would have clogged our filter.
