I started my business in the spare room of my parent's house after taking a $20,000 loan from USAA. Amazing, what I love is that even as a parent you start from Zero every now and again, everything is unchartered territory and you reset for every child! there is allot of transferable skills there for sure!

Remember folks- never judge yourself against someone with more support than you. If you don’t have family or friends backing you with house space to use as warehouse space, cheap labor from friends, etc, then do not compare yourself to this man who had all of those safety nets plus some. Some actually start from zero and some start from .5 and tell you they start at zero. Much love to the dreamers out there doing it without support- you can do it!
I agree that not all “zeroes” look the same, and to not judge your current chapter by the chapter of others, but it sounds to me like you’re trying to discredit his success and make yourself feel better after comparing your current circumstances to his. There is not one single thing you can say to discredit and shake this man’s consistency and commitment to everything it took to get to where he is - regardless of the support he had. Some of the stuff I see on social media is heinous, and I usually sit back and laugh (which I still did), but this is just ignorant and probably still not deserving of a reply.
@@PublicComedyGoldfolks who say they have found success without mentioning the extremely large amount of help they had in the beginning- years of free assistance from multiple family members like Nick had- is straight up lying. If you don’t see it like that then that’s because every human is a little different and we think differently. Pointing out a lie is not to discredit but to give an actual accurate representation of the situation. Most businesses fail in the first couple of years because overhead costs are greater than what they expected. He had a family house to use as a warehouse and free labor from family to erase those overhead costs that bring most down. So, he should emphasize that. Emphasize that his success now is largely because of the low overhead costs in the beginning. I’ve followed him since he was in Korea so I know when he got warehouse space and established actual job positions. Someone just tuning in today wouldn’t know any of that because he’s mums the word. I think that’s BS. If you don’t then fine, we are different people. 🤝🏻
Listened on Spotify, but I had to come comment! Such a great episode that came at the perfect time for me. Thank you for pulling back the curtain and sharing everything. Sometimes it can be so daunting seeing where others are at, so it’s made me complacent, but this episode was very motivating and inspiring .(Specifically, your personal journey, but love hearing the Founders podcast mentions as well.)
Every year you talk about this right at the time when I need a reminder that everyone's business growth is different, and it requires consistently showing up, bad decisions, tough decisions, time and courage to build something great. It takes courage to get past yourself and work when you're tired, it takes courage to take on a lot of work when you don't think you can handle it (in my case video work - taking on a ton of jobs when I know I'm limited on my energy and ability to shoot or edit within a timely manner, and finding editors or contracting out work when I know I don't yet have the funds, or it might hurt to pay people to do things). It's a journey, and just like a marathon, we have to focus on the mile we're in, and not try and focus on the finish line - because when we do that, we limit ourselves.
