The Curious Case Of Mo Bamba & Bol Bol

- Mo Bamba & Bol Bol. I was extremely high on both of them, crazy size and wingspans, ability to shoot, block shots, glimpses of potential to defend from 1 to 5, like on earth can you not develop into something special? Well they both experienced stunted growth and most recently were waived from their respective teams, so let's analyze what happened to Mo Bamba and Bol Bol.
Mo Bamba & Bol Bol character assessment :
Nuggets star forward Michael Porter Jr. gave a brutally honest assessment for how teammate Bol Bol can establish a presence in the NBA: “It’s just gonna take a mindset change.” : www.denverpost.com/2021/09/27...
"Yeah, I can say there was a little bit, I feel I could've worked a lot harder. That was just me being young. That's one of the things I learned, you have to work hard or (stuff's) not gonna work out for you. www.basketballnetwork.net/lat...
“Talent-wise, he has a ceiling that he could be really good if he’s locked-in,” an NBA scout said. “He has a chance, but I don’t know if his motor will let him get there. He’s skilled and he can shoot.”
theathletic.com/2791031/2021/...
Bamba knows there are reservations about his game. In addition to his shot and overall offensive ability, the biggest questions you hear about Bamba pertain to his “motor.” That’s scouting jargon, and it has a nebulous meaning
www.theringer.com/nba/2018/5/... - Sport
Finally a fan that actually hold’s players accountable for their own lack of development rather than acting like there’s a conspiracy against them. Great video bro lol
At a certain point, I thought the same thing. No way after all this time they didn't improve. Maybe they needed more G league time and time behind the scenes to get better
Young fans have no understanding of the game, everythings a conspiracy when really these guys just don’t want it.
@@chitownkidd33
It’s not just young fans it’s older fans too. People that never played the game don’t realize most of the hardwork done for players to improve is in the offseason alongside their trainers. Even JVG said the guys that become stars improve on their own regardless of the team their drafted too.
Incredibly accurate video. Mo Bamba so lazy as a player. Bol bol lack of motor and lack of coachability is worrying
“Lack of development” idk maybe that comes from “lack of play”
This just shows the value of vets in a locker room. For sure they can not force a young player to act in a certain way but it will have an impact
Vets can't make the 50% that doesn't love basketball love it enough to work hard enough to get better. People assume that all you need to get better is be in the NBA, but in reality the players that develop work extra extra extra hard for even a 1% of development. The NBA is difficult, you shouldn't have to have vets to get professional players paid millions to get better. Plenty of guys get better without vets
@@blablablaa14Grizzlies definitely need vets. Their team is talented but immature and their offcourt got in the way of oncourt performance
@@cuongquoc5877 Yeah cause their guys are immature. But the Spurs don't need vets cause all their young guys have great attitudes and a great coach
@@blablablaa14The Spurs are a losing team without vets lmao
Bol bol's OG in denver was Jokic. Jokic tried to accommodate him in both guard positions and moved to pg so that bol could play centre. They tried everything. He has no excuses.
The reason why Brooks as the most hated player was able to secure a great contract is that no one doubted he wanted to win and was willing to do everything for it. That is not a mindset that I personally adore, but in team sports you can not underestimate the value of such a player to the team. Gifted players who think they are more important than the team on the other hand.. Imagine being the coach and your fans love a player who you know is not giving his best over players who are giving their everything.
true and even though some like you don’t personally like brooks mindset. most coaches want to coach someone like brooks who will do anything to win not low motor players. great perspective
if Brooks wanted to win he would've backed up everything he said by winning a playoff series against a 7-seeded team but instead he didn't have a single decent game.
@@vaultdweller6525 its a team game
@@its_radit His team needed him to perform, especially with Ja out
@@its_radit are you one of those strange individuals that call themselves as Dillon Bricks diehard fans?
Mo bamba still living on the hype of the song😭
amazing video and amazing insight. as someone that lives in Orlando and roots for the Magic it’s frustrating to see these things go down in real time and you nailed the reasoning behind why they’re both struggling, it helps those that don’t watch them often understand
Bol2 came to Denver and the fans loved him. Any time he did anything on the court the fans went mad. But Malone is tough on young players, just ask MPJ. Bol2 didn’t respond well. He seemed to pout. He seemed detached. He had moments but couldn’t build on them.
bol has mental probs. mo is a phlegmatic.
@@MistressOPwhat does that mean? Keep the game simple. Sounds more like bol couldn’t prove why he should stay on the roster over Jokic, Porter Jr, Gordon, and Jeff Green
@@MistressOPLmao ok bud
@@ry_an.that’s honestly dumb asf to say
@@_robespierrehow tf you know he has mental problems? Y’all mfs say anything
Thank you for bringing this up. A lot of CASUAL FANS only see and appreciate highlight plays. What "casuals" don't notice are the *important INTANGIBLES like basketball IQ, competitive mindset, and hustle,* things that don't appear in the stats sheet or ESPN best plays. And these INTANGIBLES are the things that are usually lacking in the games of underachievers or underperformers like Mo and Bol.
They’ll argue chemistry doesn’t have an effect lol
True defense is also something which highlight plays often miss as well. Someone can get a lot of blocks, or never get any blocks, but both could be really good defenders at protecting the rim or terrible defenders at the rim.
Others can shot a block near the rim but cant guard other position and they call that better defender lol.
Still though upside can’t be slept on, these players have amazing upside and have been in terrible situations generally. It’s not just casual talk; it’s frustration.
🎯 I used to be a Bol Bol apologist, then i actually got League pass, and was able to watch him on a game by game basis…. Then i understood.
What did you see? Because I have league pass too…
@@mogulme6190 lack of effort from game to game
turnovers from trying to sauce people up.
Sooo many easy points from him ball watching and his opponent just waltzes unimpeded to the rim.
Excessive reaching and subsequent fouls on guys he has no business reaching on (smaller guys he’s been switched in to during a pnr).
And excessive jumping to get blocks on close outs that either get him out of position, or earn him a foul.
Then right after these negatives, you’d see him do something amazing guys his size have rarely, if ever, done before.
@@3serioFacts bro. As a nuggets fan, it frustrated me whenever other fans would criticize us for not playing him more. He was toxic, lazy, and didn’t do much for us.
@@3seriobol bol has superstar potential he needs minutes on team that will give him full greenlight
@@MrDiMES123 nah. he needs to understand that he first needs to show that he has grown up before he's given the green light.
Such a shame they're like that. Difference between Giannis and these two. All of them has insane physicals just that one has the most drive and passion of them all. Hardwork and talent beats just talent but no work
Because only one of them experienced having nothing.
Himeko you’re still alive 🎉
I dunno. The video barely provides proof that they don’t work hard; just one article each. I wasn’t left terribly convinced
@@ClareAmel did you not see the examples of them being lazy getting back on defense? or their lack of effort when crashing rebounds/guarding assignments?
@@ClareAmelI updated video description adding 4 articles touching both Bol Bol's and Bamba's work ethic. The clips in my video perfectly backs up those articles. With Bol Bol it was clear even before the draft, he has to change his mentality, even in Denver his own teammates began questioning his motor, with Bamba there were some scouts noticing his lack of motor before draft but it was even more clear when he began to play in Orlando.
Finally somebody says how it is not blowing loads of hype for clicks
discipline is so important at this age, its crazy how a good mindset + talent get players a loot further career-wise at least

That fight between Mo Bamba and Austin Rivers made Bamba look so immature. It's not surprising that its not the only example of him not having the right mindset
Bro Austin left the court and walked on to the bench … no way your this stupid
ngl when they have mo bamba bol bol jonathan issac and franz, i once hope a different level of big ball would have come
As a life time Magic fan, you explained their situations perfectly
This channel is super underrated. Subbed!
I remember watching that Wizards game. That was literally like a few weeks before bamba and the dude in Washington ended up traded to the Lakers. The Wizards player had just come back from injury and was killing the magic my team that night. This game alone is probably why lakers went after him, seeing his potential. Because he wasn't doing that before or after this game before being traded. So you definitely made a good argument for bamba and bol. Also people were acting like bol was one of the better players on the magic roster when, in reality, the magic have guys at every position that bring more to the game than bol.
As a suns fan this is making me more and more skeptical about bol bol.
🤜🏼🤛🏼100% agreed, fellow Suns fan. We already have a big guy who sometimes doesn’t put his heart into it 😕
*about ayton
@@jier65?
Ayton*😂 Suns drafted him over Luka cause y'all needed a big and already had a ball dominant player, but look at y'all now, getting more ball dominant players. Could've easily gotten a big in free agency or a trade, NEVER PICK FIT OVER GENERATIONAL TALENT.
@@huntermach7356 Luka has done nothing in the playoffs and he doesn't play defense. Literally the worst type of player for an organization that wants to win.

Derozan keeping it earned!! 100% on point
I remember some of my friend wanted the Knick FO to trade up to get Mo Bomba. funny how we ended up with Mitchel Robinson who's had the better career so far. now, if only we had drafted Shai Gilgeous-Alexander or Mikal Bridges instead of Kevin Knox. what a draft that would have been for us.

Great analysis. Subbed!!!👍🏼👍🏼
This extends to a lot of young stars people bandwagon. The guys who throw up 20 to 30 a night but literally zero defense, they dont love basketball they love scoring. If they could they'd tag in a defender and rest until offense again lmao

Very good analysis.
Finally, someone who sees what I kept seeing every time I used to watch them (Bol Bol in particular). Lack of motivation can be a hard thing to shake but I really thought Mo Bamba could at least do that.
Perfect analysis 👍🏼
The Warriors had a top 5 defense nearly every year they made or won the finals. The great Bulls teams had the best defense in the league. Winning basketball has always been about the great 2 way players with a good motor they can turn on in the 4th quarter. Even Miami was a top 3 defense last year. There is so much in the way of offensive talent now, defense has become the X factor when the playoffs roll around.
No offense is still the most important factor. But when two great scoring teams meet thats when defense and basketball IQ play a role. Bulls and Warriors both had one of the grreatest offense talented players ever. Build a team with all all nba defense against all all nba offense. A Squad of Drew Holiday, marcus Smart, Brook Lopez , Giannis and Jarret Jackson is not beating a team of Luka,Jokic, Curry, Durant and Lebron
@@DD-rk6kn - agreed - if you don't have great offense and a couple of superstars, you're lucky to make it into the second round of the playoffs. But there are a lot of teams with offense (think of every team Harden ever played with). As the game slows down on a deep playoff run though, basketball IQ, defense, and hustle are often what separates the good teams from the championship teams. Build me a team with the best 2 way players. The W's had 3 elite scorers, a glue guy (Draymond), and elite defenders (Durant may be the most underrated defender of his era).
Great stuff. 🙏🏻
Totally baffled with those 2 frfr... Good take 💯
THANK YOU. i got so tired of bamba and bol bol fans stanning for these guys all the time pretending they were being held back by teams when it just wasn't the case. this video needs to reach the casual fan so badly

Good video!
This video is great and super eye opening. Demar is clearly right and thank you for showing this.
Great vid!
1:47 I was waiting for this exact clip
This is a well put together video. I also think injuries have hurt their development too. They haven't been taking care of their bodies.
great video
2 of my favourite players in the nba but the truth is there
dang bro you deserve more subs
Great video. As a Nuggets fan, it's been incredibly frustrating to watch Bol Bol's lack of effort. You could see the smoke coming out of Coach Malone's ears as Bol would show no energy and then poor body language when corrected. Such a shame, as he has unique skills.
he thinks he all that. remember bol is like a prince then add the new generation.
I like the unfiltered, “He shouldn’t be closing out Dillon f*ing Brooks.”
Good video. Nice music too lol
even if you don't love the game, it's your work, go out there and give all u got.
my fav centers
For bol Bol I cut him some slack to be a top 10 projected pick and be injured setting him back to second round must be demotivating and if I was in his situation I would probably be devastated however I don’t get why he doesn’t try to be the player he could’ve been wonder what he wouldve been like if he was drafted high maybe he would care more. For Mo bamba he has always been one of my favourite players sad to see him leave Orlando but it’s crazy how blinded I was by my fandom as when I look back he did jack squat for us and probably held us back. I wish them both well tho I do like them both a lot especially Mo.
I been trading for both of them on 2K for the last like 3 years to run a fast paced offense with two twin towers, its crazy how much potential they both have that isnt getting tapped into.
Bamba and Bol bol go💯 💪💪💪💪
It's so weird how young players like Bol Bol, Mo Bamba but also Ayton, Ben Simmons and to some extent Zion, all have some issues as far as drive, motivation and work ethic to get better, improve, stay in shape, etc. too much money too soon, I guess. Back then, just a few years in the league didn't earn you a life living, nowadays, if you get to your rookie extension, you are good, no wonder Ayton said his objective was to get his second contract.
These guys are too immature, there is a feel of entitlement, a lot of it might have been a given on talent but at the highest level, everybody is talented and when you need that extra effort. It feels like they give up, very gen-Z-like, oh, too hard, like life is supposed to be easier. I think they got too much too soon without truly earning it and if you don't have it in you and you surround yourself by yes-man-friends, nobody will call you out and if you are the delusional type, you will keep thinking you are always right.
Ben simmons had issues waaay bigger than basketball and then he mentally clocked out. Zion seems to have ulterior motives so I don't think he is mentally weak. I don't know much about ayton
Having your goal be the second contract is by far the most honest and mature thing I have heard an athlete say. Sucks for suns fans but great for the ayton family.
How much of it is that dudes are told to play basketball because they grew the body for it rather than because they always liked it and THEN grew into a good body for it?
That is because the athletic big guys has always enjoyed a huge physical advantage since they were in grade school all the way up to college. They dominated without having to actually work hard or use their basketball IQ and so when they finally get to the NBA where everyone is just as talented as they are, they don't know how to handle it. A lot of them are also playing ball because of their size and not because they really have a passion for it and so when they can't rely on their physical gifts anymore, they have no idea how to work their way out of it and because they has been spoiled and catered to their entire lives, they also cannot deal with the criticism or tough love. The biggest draft busts in NBA history is literally littered with big men- Eddy Curry, Michael Olowokandi, Kwame Brown, DeSagana Diop, Darko Milicic, Stromile Swift, Hasheem Thabeet, Shawn Bradley, Yi Jianlian, Danny Ferry, Anthony Bennett etc.
Like MJ said they’re paying these dudes off potential or possible potential not not production. They’re giving these young guys too much money.
A lot of high school ballers are bigger, faster, stronger.. physically maturing earlier than others. This helps them stand out on talent alone. College level the competition starts to catch up and the talented players now have to work a little harder physically & mentally. Most athletically gifted players have low basketball I.Q.s. Once you get to NBA, everyone can ball, now it comes down to heart, how hard you are willing to work, learn etc..
good video
I still think if they both get in the right team and get to play through mistakes they can be really solid players stretch 5s that can shoot catch lobs and block shots
I feel like I've heard your voice before, do you have other channels?
I've gotten so much crap from CZcams comments casue I tried to explain this to people asking why bol bol doesn't get on the court. Its a great way of knowing if someone actually watches games or if they just watch highlights and box scores
Wenbamyama bout to join this video.
Could you do a video about Alperen Sengun and where you think his ceiling is
Basketball I.Q. is extemely important. You can have all the physical gifts and tools but if you don't make the correct decisions consistently then you will always be a below average NBA player. Fans have overrated physical attributes for far too long.
excited to see how he improves in Philly. maybe he won’t or maybe he will
Hell just be a bench player with same attitude
Bol Bol is so fun to watch. Wish that boy would get it together.
Lol yeah, alright.
If they can combine both into one, bol bol's offence and bamba's Defence, it will be very interesting
Wembanyama
If they play on the same lineup they can wreak havoc.
Marko Simonivic should be on this list too
these are the guys I roll with in 2k😆😅🤣
At this point, i hope these 2 have shown enough promise that a euroleague team would be willing to take a chance on them😢
And DeRozen is talking about Lonzo Ball just getting a check.
I had friends saying the lakers should sign bol bol. I just rolled my eyes. So glad they’re not gms
Whyyy is there captions? CZcams already has a caption function you can use
Being freakishly tall doesn’t guarantee you a spot in the league anymore like it used to
Yeah. How long will it take to figure out that being tall "enough" is the prerequisite, and everything else is more important by any measure.
i usually go to work 7-3, start smoking at about 4-5, go to sleep before 12. idk i feel like this isn’t a bad schedule, but even still i find myself having too high of a tolerance :/
Either one of them will be great on the Warrior, since they wouldn’t be asked to do too much.
Love this vid. Also you English is excellent. Just missing the and a and some plurals. But seriously excellent, better than my Lithuanian girlfriend that’s for sure 😂
idk why mo a year ago was starting while putting good numbers and shooting over 38% from 3
The magic were taking and trying to lose games
Also a NBA team does not consist of the 15 best one on one scorers a team can get a hold of. Its usually 2 scorers and maybe some bench fire power, rest are role players that specialise in other fields
I’m glad these Bleacher report fanboys who look solely at length and 3pt % are finally realizing there’s more to the game now that their unicorns are failing.
Love the channel! Appreciate the film on these tik tok famous players’ flaws. We need more balance in the media
Dillion fucking brooks had me dying 😂😂😂😂😂
Let me ask a serious question. What’s the difference between Wemby and Mo Bamba other than a few inches
They'll never realize what they had until 5-10 years down the road, then they'll say "If I had done this, or that I could've been this or that!~ Of course everyone that's here now will be there to let them know, ~"You never had it, nor did you ever apply yourselves 100%, or both of you would still be in the NBA!"~ Their hearts were never really in it, because when you love something you will do anything to keep it(play defense, running sprints, accepting having your coach yell @ you because you're missing an assignment, you will do whatever to keep your spot & let it be known you're not going away that easily), and that doesn't seem to be the case here!!!
yea ive watched bolbol train recently, even when the other players are going game speed, hes worried about looking cool and going through the drills chill and lazy asf. Everyone is on a different timeline to mature, but yeah as people who doesn't have his dimentions we dont understand. I hope he figures it out.
My favorite part of the video is when he says "Dillon Fucking Brooks"
Tall / long wingspan with low rebounding stats is plenty proof that a player has a low motor.
Because they don't know how to develop this kind of player. At their height you put em at PF in the corner and they can shoot over everyone like KD. Then their speed allows them to help a Center protect the rim. They are not Centers. I would like to see them play together tbh.
This is why more high school prospects should play in the G League or overseas as opposed to going to college. College basketball doesn't prepare you enough for the big stage unlike the other two.
To see this guy get put on a path for success would make me happy as f! I'm talking bout bol bol f what u talk bout
bol bol got kd, PG warming him up 😊
Bol bol is still my favorite nba player idc
You can't win games if you don't like competition. Athleticism, potential and even skill is meaningless if you don't have the drive to back it up.
FACTS what DeRozon said!! They just care about the money, not basketball.
"You shouldn't close out Dillon F-ing Brooks" I just lost it :)
Mo & Bol are cool players, enjoyed when they played for my Magic. The only thing is, people think these players are better than what they are. No IQ, all they did was foul, & got mad when players that are playing better got minutes over them.
Shout out to these guys for showing us how to fail. Wemby seems to have taken notes. The head on his shoulders is infinitely more mature. Thank fuque
Except this is video of them in actual games where Wemby hasn’t had an opportunity to be frustrated in NBA games yet. Slow down.
Hasan Whiteside also had this problem. He could've been amazing. A legitimate DPOY player. He just didn't have the drive to do it. Lots of physically gifted guys who just had a lack of effort and bbiq.
whiteside talent and physical is what the nba dont need in todays game. if he was in early 2000s he would be in level with dwight howard to bad born in different era
ayo, they made a player based on a song mo bamba. that's crazy😂
Anyone questioning why they haven’t had much impact in the league won’t have any questions after watching this video
How do you have a wingspan like mo mambas and not dominate basketball?
Great Video. These two were so disappointing for Magic fans. They obviously had such gifts but squandered it with low effort and low IQ constantly.
