Among everyone else here in this list, I have tremendous amount of faith for Mikal Bridges. I hopes he become an All-Star and also the next face of the franchise for this Nets team post-KD and Kyrie.
Yes, Mikal was a solid role player on the Suns. They basically had him as a 4th option. Any NBA fan could see that he was good 2-way player and had a lot of potential. I am interested to see if they will still make the playoffs this year and how they do. Brooklyn may need a vet floor general point guard that can unlock those young players potential. Not sure if Dinwidie is a true pt guard.
I agree 100%. Imagine if the 76ers didn't trade him away for nothing lmao. 76er's would be favorites in the east.
Basically suns has a superteam already but didn't use it lol bad coaching
@@boonebeasley9622 Monty Williams is a great coach, I thought that was the case?
@@lvmsoundwave2923 Spence has some decent playmaking talents but I’d say he’s more of a shooting guard. He can run the point obviously, but if I were them, I’d work on progressing Cam Thomas’ playmaking abilities and have him be the leader of the offense on more sides than just scoring; have Spence be a 3rd option behind Cam and Mikal.
You mentioned Mikal Bridges, but have no mention of Lauri Markannen, who literally became an all star this season and could possibly win MIP🤔
Not possibly. He'll win MIP there's no debate
@@gerritlullau8174 Guess you haven't been paying attention to Jalen Brunson.
@@DarkSideMaceWindu I did pay attention to him. I'd still give Markannen a slight edge over him
Yup, was gonna say the same.
@@DarkSideMaceWindu Brunson wasnt traded , he is an RFA
I remember the late great Drazén Petrović. He was also slowly withering away in Portland like Jermaine O'Neal. Then got traded to New Jersey and the rest is history.
Thank you! I was hoping, someone will mention Dražen, so I don't have to do it :)
@@tome_ivancevic čitam komentare i kontam isto ako nema da pišem hahaha
Portland has a long history of wasting talent, going back to when they made Walton play on a busted foot and basically ended his career.
Jermaine O Neal and Ben Wallace are definitely two guys you think of. Jermaine was a young unproven player in Portland who barely saw the hardwood. But once he got to Indiana he was the driving force behind the team. Averaging 25 points on great efficiency. As for Ben Wallace he got playing time with the wizards but was never the go to guy. That trade to Detroit was phenomenal. Wallace instantly became one of the best defensive big men we’ve ever seen. Leading the pistons in blocks and becoming the anchor of the pistons defensively.
Jermaine O’Neil is one of my favorite players I discovered when looking up NBA history.
Good post player.
With the Magic you saw flashes but the move to Detroit sprung him talent wise.
Young NBA fans who are bandwagon garbage don't understand that Jermaine O'Neal was traded for Dale Davis who had good defense on Shaq
@@loveofmangos001 I'd heard of Davis. Came across him and Rik Smits when looking up the 2000 Pacers team that faced the Lakers.
I had a feeling that he could have been who was traded because that finals was the last games of Smits' career, but I also wasn't sure because wasn't O'Neal a power forward and Davis a center? Sure those are both traditionally "big" positions, but I've heard the league cared about positions more in the 2000's and earlier.
@@fortynights1513 defensively and offensively 💯💯 he from SC so is KG😂
As some others have pointed out too: I was surprised Lauri Markkanen didn't make the list since he went from roleplayer to All Star Starter (albeit injury replacement starter) and possibly MIP and probably All NBA too. Yes, their team is fighting for play-in and under .500 but not much and after gutting their roster, it's been mostly Markkanen keeping them afloat.
The bulls gave up the exact type of player they need smh
@I dipped
Little correction: Bulls gave up ON him 😉
That's why he wanted out. He would never have developed to what he is now if he would have stayed in that system.
@@magicofshootingstar5825 it’s not a correction I said exactly that
@I dipped
No, it was a joke 😅😂
You said they gave him up and I said they gave up on him. So on is trading him away and other is losing faith in him, different meanings 🙂
@@magicofshootingstar5825 yeah they hyped him up so much too during his rookie year which is why I was mad when they traded them, I still thought he had 20 ppg potential
Victor Oladipo and that 2018 pacers team is one of the things that made me a fan of Basketball , I was ready for that team to be one of up and coming teams in the east. Victor is still my favorite player in the league I’m glad he’s starting to get better in Miami.
Bro u can’t be serious
Victor Oladipo is gonna be in his prime soon 🎉🎉🎉🎉
@@Willie._5k I’m 100% serious my guy. The 1st round between the Pacers and Cavs and playing 2K, are the things that got me into the NBA and why I’m still here enjoying it today and The Pacers are still my team and I’m loving the direction they’re heading in with Tyrese and Benedict Mathurin. So yes I’m serious Bro.
@Hoodrich Willie we all start somewhere
The only thing I can agree with you is go Pacers, but Dipo left us like it was nothing, dude left for palm trees and barely even plays. He wants to be a singer
I’m happy for Bridges man!!! He can now blossom while still giving the team serious playoff minutes!! They may not win a title, but they shouldn’t break anything up!!
Man im so mad my knicks passed on him in the draft I knew he was going to be good since Villanova
They r a good team now getting rid of all the drama with kd and kyrie ngl
Serious playoff minutes?? Fym this the only year the nets going to be anywhere near close the playoffs and that's cause of KD & Kyrie 😂😂 nets not going to no playoffs in 2024 beyond bubs
@@dogshxtgames3257 they have serious potential to be a good team.
@@cookingwitchefzayy8830 hey at least you ain’t Philly
I remember as a little kid that 04 Pistons team holding opponents to 78, 79, 80 points per game. They had insane defense when I look back on it now. They may be one of the greatest examples of a defensively driven NBA team to win a chip.
The pace of the game was slower back then as well
A lot of people when traded to Indiana become stars like Sabonis and Halliburton. It's just a crazy affect that they have on players
you don't even need to look at all stars. Look at Nwora this year.
@@ilngsisfh Nwora hasn’t improved he’s still a negative whenever he’s on the floor just like he was for the bucks, he’s just putting up better stats
I mean we Are a Basketball State 😅We love our basketball
Haliburton was already playing like he is in the Kings, you just would see him less because he was a rookie/on his 2nd year and because of Fox.
Joe Johnson and Kyle Lowry comes to mind. Joe Johnson was like 4th option behind Nash, Amare and Marion in PHX couple years later after signing with the Hawks he became an All Star. Kyle Lowry was like a quality starting PG in Houston but then left and became the Greatest Raptor of all time
Johnson was their scoring option over marion
Thank you for reminding me why Big Ben will always be one of my favorite players. One of the rare guys to make the HoF virtually purely off defense-one of the greatest defenders ever, in fact. Not to mention coming into the NBA-undrafted- as part of a stacked '96 class where AI, Ray Allen, Kobe, and Steve Nash all DID get drafted...the Pistons were the best possible thing to happen to his career.
Chauncey Billups after being a Bench Warmer in his early Years, began to Blossom in Minnesota, and then became a Star in Detroit and his 2nd Stint in Denver.
Add Domantas Sabonis he blossomed in Indiana and became a Star in Sacramento
Sabonis was on 2 all star teams before going to the Kings, no way he belongs on a list like this
@@patrickhanlon2325 ya fr he ain’t been a role player since dipo
Man, I miss Bridges already :(
Btw, Tracy McGrady technically was traded to Orlando for a 2005 1st so he counts and should definitely be in the top6 :P
Some other that come to mind:
Drazen Petrović - went from bench guy 16min/7ppg in Portland to scoring 20+ for the Nets and eventually an all-nba 3rd team selection before his untimely death
Detlef Schrempf - 20min/9ppg on Dallas to 17/9 and multiple sixth man awards on Pacers
Chaucey Billups - went from being passed around a borderline bust to multiple all-star and finals MVP pretty much right after being traded to Detroit
I think the reason Andy excluded TMac and Chaucey is because he had made a video ''How good was TMac/Chaucey'', also TMac has featured like 7 times in his videos already so he might want to give us something new
The rockets traded steve Francis and cuttino mobley and Cato to the magic for t mac.
Boris Diaw should be on here. He was basically a salary filler in the Johnson Sign and Trade between Phoenix and Atlanta. He went from the bad team with countless opportunities to the good team with championship aspirations, and still won most improved player in 2006.
Just realized that back then some stars that broke out were originally from the Blazers like Zack Randolf, Jeramaine O'Neal, Rasheed Wallace, and a few more
All three of those guys were power forwards correct?
Yes
Sheed was originally from the bullets
ah
Rasheed was already a star with the Blazers
I actually remember Wallace before he was in Detroit. Hell, I remember him before Orlando. Kobe had an infamous preseason dunk on him while he was in Washington lol
How about Lauri Markkanen? He fits perfectly here
God Oladipo was so cold that season, I remember how ripped bro got that off-season and was so hyped he was playing that well
Still waiting for the 2012 Mavs video and the truth regarding about the breakup of half of their core group in pursue of a big name free agents.
Tobias Harris wasn’t really doing much with bucks, magic, pistons, but once he reached the clippers, he was an all star caliber player
nah,,maybe "almost all star caliber". hes not even selected even as replacement atleast once,,,
Gerald Wallace in '05 on Charlotte after 3 years of not playing for the Kings despite appearing to be the perfect 20-25 minute hustle role player for a top team, but i guess the Refs made Sacramento not play Crash when they lost in 7 games in '04 to Minnesota and an age 21 Wallace played 2 total minutes for the series... fax!!!
Bad coaching
@@boonebeasley9622 kings were just deep. They had webber and Christie
Boris Diaw was traded from the Atlanta Hawks as a throw in. He became a triple double machine during the 2005-06 and was named MIP. Then unfortunately he dropped off after Amar'e came back from his knee surgery.
Boris was solid but he never became a star lol
What sucks is Bridges was just starting to find a groove since Book was sitting out with an injury. He even said that people told him once book came back that they wanted him to stay aggressive
Love the channel, bro
Doing great!
Keep making great videos (and also take time for yourself too)!
Yeah another great video from you Andy!!
Harden when he joined the Rockets went from thunder role playing 6th man to mega superstar
Damn Andy hoops it’s been like 4 years I last saw your video. I’m happy I found you again
11:22 I will never forget the 5 game sweep of the Lakers where Phil Jackson admitted he couldn't figure out Larry Browns scheme. Except for that miraculous game 2 where Kobe shot a 3 in Rips face, the Lakers would average being down by 20 by the half of the other games. I miss this Era of basketball and haven't watch in years now.
Isiah Thomas became a star when he went to the Celtics
He already showed signs of becoming a star in SAC and Phoenix but when we went to boston he peaked
@@tj5180 IT wasn’t that recognized as Harden was cause that 7M per year contract didn’t lie. And he sucked in that 3PG Sac team considered to be a bench scorer.
Awesome video Andy ! Keep grinding you’ll get 1 m subs eventually you have Terrific content
I think confidence and support is probably one of the most important things for players. You see players stats sky rocket when they gain support and confidence.
Bridges was always known to have been coming to his own.
There was an offer for 3-4 1sts if I recall just for him.
Awesome video my guy
I still remember when James Harden instantly started averaging 40 points per game after he got traded to Houston. Everyone knew he was a good/great player but just not this good.
Isaiah Thomas!! Got traded to a rebuild Celtics team and got them into the playoffs twice + was top 5 MVP two years later.
you should also do. players that signed with other teams that became stars.
Jalen Brunson went from role player to fringe all star with the knicks
Steve Nash was a star in dallas but he became a hall of fame talent in Phoenix
etc
I've always believed most key rotational players if given the chance to be the focal point of an offense have the potential to put up near star numbers, at least in volume anyway lol
This tbh. They are NBA players after all, of course not every player but most. Just look at the Heat.
Yo word 2, andy mad underrated! I dont know why he doesn't get his due. Forget all the b.s if you see great content say you see great content. 😢😅 nothing wrong with showing respect where respect is due. "Just don't over do it"
Jermaine O'Neal was good on the Portland trail blazers. He just wasn't getting enough minutes to shine in Portland but he was already a superstar for anyone who really paid attention to the games. Especially in the Western conference finals against LA...
I swear he would play lights out when he got into the game and then Coach Mike dunleavy would be like, he's making a difference! He's making a difference!! Pull him out! Pull him out!!
We're trying to choke this series away not win it 😂
I just wish my Grizzlies had kept Bridges alongside Morant & JJJ. What a phenomenal trio that would be. And of course, sending Brooks to oblivion.
That so throwback, I grew up seeing Dale Ellis as a Sonic, never knew he was a Mav
I remember playing NBA Live 96 on SNES, a game that before the first play, you had to Pick players for the 2 new teams of that year (Raptors and Grizzles). My only rule was to pick only players on the bench from other teams. I remember that Jalen Rose, Gugliota, and many others what had some spotlight in the next year's.
Tracy mcgrady from toronto to orlando
He got injured most of his time there
@@utubebroadcaster he was injured in houston in orlando he barely missed games
Didn’t get traded
Not a role player
Great video. Perhaps we can add Brandon Ingram to this list to make it 7? I almost thought you forgot Tracy McGrady but then realized he was a free agent and signed with the Magic so he wasn't traded. Maybe make a video on guys who who were free agents and became stars when they signed with their new team. Chauncey Billups is another guy that comes to mind or also Gilbert Arenas even though Arenas was Most Improved Player in his second year, it was after he signed with the Wizards when he became a star.
Kevin Johnson was a goon… those highlights are so hype
Dana Barros, 3rd string PG behind Gary Payton and Nate McMillian. Traded to 76'ers and makes the all star game in his 1st year as a Starter.
Love that you brought up KJ, Suns legend
Honestly, the Pistons starting 5 in 2003-04 season could have been the whole list by itself.
Surprised you only glossed over Tracy McGrady. He was a role player in Vince's shadow by his 3rd season to immediately being an mvp candidate his 1st year in Orlando. 6th in voting
I wonder how many sleeping stars there are in the nba. Some might not have the confidence or belief to see if they can be a star elsewhere/don’t want to risk it or leave a better team.
Most players are probably capable of being stars but there are just not enough opportunities
Giving Harden most improved at that time would be like giving Maxey most improved if he play for a different team. We all know he's special already. Same with Mikal tbh. You may be surpised that he's averaging 25 a night in Brooklyn, but people who actually watched him play shouldn't be surprised.
DRAZEN PETROVIĆ. Bench player on Portland and became a star on the Nets when he was traded. Passed away right when he was becoming a megastar.
Sonic great Appreciate the Dale Ellis shout-out
I stopped video at Olasipo. Dude had a summer body transformation with the same trainer that trained Julius Randell and Giannis. That’s a major role in success
Others I can think of:
Devin Harris when traded to New Jersey
Joe Johnson when traded to Atlanta, very similar to what happened to Harden
Steve Nash when traded to Dallas
And going way back, Bill Laimbeer when traded to Detroit
As a Pacers fan I miss PG (and he just reinsured his leg from his gnarly break🙃🥲) but when I heard we traded for Oladipo I was sooooooo excited, I saw the flashes in the pan in OKC him and Sabonis. Sad to see em both go but Haliburton and Ben Mathurin are tearing it up, watch out for them pacers next year!!
Can you do a part 2 with this? TMac and Billups were left out
Facts
I'm older, so my mind immediately went to Dana Barros. He spent several years as a backup PG in Seattle, but when he was traded to Philadelphia, he had two great seasons, including an all star season where he averages 21 and 8 and shot 46% from 3.
So brief though... Got traded to Boston and poof.
This video proves a point. Whether it’s the NBA or top leagues in Europe, all a player needs sometimes is an opportunity. And when placed in the right system, the breakthrough happens.
Great video
Great video.
Robert Parsih - Pretty solid starter on Golden State but I don't think anyone considered him an All-Star before going to Celtics
Tyson Chandler - Instantly earned All-Defensive team after getting traded to the Mavs and became an All-NBA 3rd Team and DPOY a year later with the Knicks
love the FOB content
Yeah Dale Ellis was a walking bucket. The first NBA player to reach 1000 3 point shots made... KJ was a monster on the court also. Guess it goes to show players have the potential to do more but the team has people filling that Role already so one has to either focus on other parts of the game to.get floor time or just remain buried on the bench sad to say
Victor Oladipo is a prime example of why Russell Westbrook is an EXCELLENT teammate, and makes players BETTER.
whatever helps you and your star sleep better
He only makes players better when they’re not on his team 😂
That before and after pic of Olidipo shows NBA’s dark little secret; they are all on PED’s. The league doesn’t test for HGH or all year around.
Nor do they do blood tests. Urine tests are super easy to beat. There are tons of ways to flush your system or mask drugs/steroids in urine.
No way anyone goes from that before pic to that after pic in three(3) weeks without any pharmaceutical help.
You thought you had something there my g
@@mrpillows Wrong. Paul George, Bradley Beal, and KD can all attest to the fact that Russ brings the most out of his teammates. And ngl, even Kawhi Leonard can say that now.
Marcus Morris Sr was looking like an all star with the NY Knicks before being traded to the Clippers
Good numbers bad team, he was never an all star caliber player
Absolutely Kyle Lowry. I still remember how he came off the bench in Houston. Was surprised to see him later on as Toronto’s 1-2 punch alongside DeMar DeRozan
So a video on undrafted players who found success. Their are some good ones. Ben Wallace was great. Found his calling on the defensive end. Brad Miller undrafted out of Perdue went to Sacramento and made two NBA Alastair teams. Would be an interesting vid.
Kyle Lowry becoming a HOF level point guard is another great mention same with Chauncey it's ridiculous how much situation matters
Thank you for this content about Jermaine O'Neal he's my idol
This is incredible
Ben Wallace !! Did all this while being 6’8 and playing C in the most dominant big man era . Underrated in my book , atleast how he’s viewed today
It’s a crime Dale Ellis only made a single all star appearance.
12:32 i think reason he didn't won because he was actually way less effective he went from 49% to just 43% from fg in that first rockets season
I knew Mikal had it in him. Thought he'd avg 20+ on Nets, but didn't expect 25.
Two bench warmers a long time ago, Dale Ellis and Allen Houston, changed teams and became stars.
!!!…One of my favorite topics…!!!
Honorable mention Paul Millsap from the jazz to Atlanta (can’t remember if he was traded or signed as free agent) the jazz made a historical franchise mistake not handing Millsap the team under D-Will after Boozer left for Chicago & choosing to go with Big Al Jefferson…!
You could also make a video on superstar's who became role players?
Please make a more in depth video of Bridges. Many NBA fans still don’t know much about him.
Jordan Clarkson was a role player for the Lakers but became a superstar on the Utah’s Jazz. Another example is Alex Carousal. They were hidden great players that now have a huge chance to show their talents.
I’m so happy for Mikael bridges as a suns fan I want to see him shine
How about a story of how Danny Ainge went from playing for the Toronto Blue Jays to the Boston Celtics.
So Cliff Robinson wasn’t there for long during O’Neal’s tenure with the Blazer. Just one season. It was Brian Grant, Sheed, and Sabonis. Also, EVERYONE knew O’Neal was a diamond in the rough. Pippen famously called out the Blazers issues and said something along the lines of “our best player is rotting on our bench” referring to JO.
Thank you for your statement about draymond green, if he’s not surrounded by hall of fame shooters, he’s Ben Wallace on the wizards
I don't know about that bro, Dray has a very all around game. He isn't the most physically gifted player, like Steph, but has tremendous fundamentals and skills. If anything, in his rookie season he was being treated like Ben in Washington because he was a 23 yo rookie who spent 5 years in college. He eventually showed that his maturity under veteran coaching made him ready to start and be a star right away. They just had to give him a chance. He's just getting older and more settled into his role at this point in his career, but coming out of college, he was considered to be the start of his MSU team. Magic heavily touted him as being more deserving of respect as a skilled player and even went as far as to compare himself to him in the 2012 draft.
im a suns fan and we knew bridges had this potential his currently showing in brooklyn. specially, when booker got injured last christmas, bridges struggled at first being the first option of the suns offense, but slowly pick it up. go and check his stats before the trade.
how about domas sabonis? after he was traded to pacers he became a legit all star caliber and right now he is one of the main reason sacramento kings became a contender this season
I'm surprised that Mr big shot Chauncey Billups wasn't on the list n Tracy McGrady in my opinion Harden shouldn't be on the list McGrady 99-00 average 15 pts when he got traded to the magic's his points average went up to 27 pts a game in 00-01 season. But this vid was interesting overall
I think a good honorable mention among this list would be Fat Lever or maybe Drazen Petrovic. Rhey both were great pieces during their times in Portland but not really a standout player until they got traded to their new teams.
Could've added Drazen Petrovic too, from warming the bench in Portland, to star in Brooklyn.
Correct, but it was new jersey wasn't it?
@@xXryanleifursonXx well yeah, current brooklyn tho (nets either way)
James Harden after his trade to OKC really went crazy
The blazers coach WASN'T wrong. He wasn't as talented as sheed or sabonis. He was just on a loaded team.
It always seems like for my state (indiana) all the all-stars have some sort game changing injury that prevents us from finally winning the finals
Not so much on stats, but joe johnson from a decent starter to THE iso joe prob deserves an honorable mention on this list
I think the average NBA fan doesn't realize how GREAT you have to be BEFORE you even think about turning pro. I would say every roster has 3-4 young guys that just need a season of starting.
i remember hearing John Calipari wanted to trade for Jermaine O'Neal, but Blazers wouldnt trade him. he didnt get a real chance to play his first few years bc he was behind Rasheed Wallace and Brian Grant.
hey Andy, one you forgot was STEVE NASH. he was drafted by the SUNS, but after he went to the MAVS is when he became a star.
Carlos Boozer to Jazz
Rasheed Wallace to Blazers
Hamilton to the Pistons
What about Chauncey billops, Julius randle, d lo and Brandon ingram
As much I love the sport hearing stuff like victor going down hill at 25 is so depressing I remember him being 20 and so highly regarded now he's a guy on a team
Mikal Bridges, I'm gonna wait on him. I wanna see the Nets continue into the playoffs and see if his performances dip, level out, or rise.
Boris Diaw from Atlanta to Suns.
Mip straight.
And after, even if he was not a scorer, his role became clear for everybody
Jermaine O'Neal one best big man in Pacers ERA 🔥🔥🔥
