*CLEARLY GOOGLE HAD AN OUTDATED HYDROGEN PRICE LISTED, $36/KG IS MORE ACCURATE* #googlelied
See my 2024 Lexus RX video: czcams.com/video/yizeJ_vU3NI/video.html
I saw a guy fill his 2021 mirai at the hydrogen station and it cost a whopping $187. Also, these hydrogen stations go out of order frequently so that super frustrating. I go rid of mine after a year. These cars aren’t worth the the trouble and expense.
Yea that hydrogen price google showed is outdated, it's over double what Google quotes for the price of Hydrogen
Hydrogen is $36 a kilo if you go to the Shell station in Torrance, it’s about $28 a kilo The new ones sold about 5 1/2 when you go about 300 miles-ish on a full tank. I’ll see you buy a new one three years later when you want to sell it The dealer will only offer you like $10,000 if you’re lucky
Very true!
Yep true
sorry brother but the hydrogen cost you mentioned is a total lie. It USED to be 16$ a kilo(holds 5 kilos) not its 36$ a kilo. It takes almost 200$ to fill up a mirai. Its worse then driving a 12 cylinder pick up truck. Its not worth it without the fuel card.
I featured an article about hydrogen fuel stations going down in this video not sure if you saw it and in that article it is as you said, price of hydrogen is like $36 however, I assumed the stations were fixed but you're saying price of hydrogen has not gone down?
@@MeynMotorGroup yes brother that is correct. Back in 2021 it used to be 16$ and its now been 36$ for a while. I live in cali, own a mirai and have traveled to many stations(i like driving) and about 30% of them are offline. There are 2 main stations "True Zero" which are top dollar 36$ kilo and the rare few "airproducts" stations which are 25$ a kilo. All hydrogen car drivers have an app and we see/study all stations availability and price. It is NOT going down, it probably will continue to go up from 36$.
@@touchmetheclown69 wow thank you for sharing this that’s awful and certainly does not make owning the mirai worth while after the $15k is used up
Toyota is discounting all Mirai with 40k manufacturers rebate. You can pick one up as low as 12k. WHY???
Shell announced, they're shutting down all 700 hydrogen fueling stations in California.
I kept telling people, there's no future for hydrogen.
facts
700 Shell hydrogen filling stations, do not even exist in California.
It is sold in Canada too, and there are hydrogen fueling stations in Canada. The msrp of the car in Canada is $40k usd.
I have 2022 one. It is too expensive fuel and service station often out of service. It is not worth it.
Used prices are staggeringly cheap but it seems like a pain to live with
yup
hydrogen is not $13-16 per kg. It is $36/kg. A full tank in a Mirai costs a little over $180
blame google, updated price in pinned comment
I think the current price reflects what creating green hydrogen actually costs. I guess before they were eating some of the cost to promote the technology and could only keep that going for so long. Hydrogen is a dead end and physics will ensure that it’s always going to be a dead end. Batteries will ALWAYS be a more efficient energy storage technology.
I'm interested . I'm in Los Angeles. I would use it to go to work. I need a new car. I have two classic cars. I can still play with.
So will the price go down when the infrastructure is in place? Is it too early to invest because it's fairly new concept? Or will it continue to be an expensive option? I'd love to hear from the owners 🙏😍 Thanks
Forget about it!
Consider that the infrastructure is contracting, not expanding. That’s just fact. The stations cost more than $2million to build and I’m guessing are very expensive to maintain and insure (explosion hazard).
Not restricted to California use. We have them on Oahu in Hawaii also.
No one cares.
How much does it cost to fill up the tanks there?
@@j.r.2785 Dude be quiet
With all the discounts im tempted to pick one up even though the writing is on the wall for hydrogen
I saw the announcement today for $40K rebate on 2023 models w/ the $15K. That means I'm getting about $3K from Toyota. I'm in the SF Bay Area and there are True Zero stations nearby. If I consider this a 3 - 5 year vehicle, I'm wracking my brain why this isn't a good deal if I don't care about resale and basically just sell it for cheap once the fuel is gone. Or am I missing something?
Just the inconvenience of filling up at a hydrogen station. They seem to be inoperable when you need them most according to other hydrogen owners. Otherwise, yea this is a no brainer it’s like an LS 500 for $20k
I did what you are contemplating and am very pleased. Great car and there are enough fueling stations with apps on your phone to make it work.
Dream died. Only applies to Limited not XLE
Looks like buying a new one with all these rebates is the way to go.
This is one of those products I really would want to succeed. I don't live in California and think hydrogen stations are only there. (Curiously there are compressed natural gas, CNG, stations around San Antonio when I looked online a while back, for the few vehicles powered by that. Mostly commercial of course.) . Hope I am wrong, but my understanding is those pumps hydrogen stations need a "charge" time to re-pressurize between vehicles filled, maybe somebody on yt exaggerated in saying takes 20-30 minutes. PS I am curious who is best able to use 15 grand worth of hydrogen fill credits within three years besides uber/lyft drivers (if it is safe driving those CA areas), but otherwise one strategy to get demand to stations.
True if hydrogen stations genuinely were available everywhere, this can be efficient and practical transportation however the re-pressurize time if accurate is a big concern
sorry but hydrogen is extremly inefficient.
Just from the Auto line Daily. Toyota is discounting all Mirai in California (in the US). Up to 40,000 dollars off. You can pick one up for 12,000 dollars.
The reason for discounting? Shell is closing all 700 hydrogen charging stations in California.
@@wt9653 sure there isn't an extra 0 on that 700? Although an article I saw made me think it was only 12 stations they had or some low number. Not that there are that many stations between all operators. For why this vehicle is exclusive to California (if sold anywhere else in the world)
@@davidglad
California is the only state with hydrogen charging stations in the US. Other states are pretty much none existent.
Toyota sells Mirai mostly in California.
If Toyota unloads all of Mirai in California. That's pretty much 99% of all Mirai in the US and Canada. Vancouver BC is the only city with hydrogen charging stations in Canada.
the hydrogen fuel concept has solved the direct charge and long charge duration issue compare with electrical cars. but it does not solve the root of the problem which is the life time of the batteries compare with electrical cars. It actually shares the same power source which is the electrical power from "Batteries".
Batteries are covered under warranty for a decade. Not even worth keeping for that long
just to be explicitly clear, the mirai has a tiny 84 cell battery. The teslas are around 7000. Calling the mirai and ev and saying that it uses batteries to store energy is misleading. Of course all batteries store energy, but the mirai really just uses the battery as a large capacitor to feed energy to the motors from the fuel cell, which is the energy storage medium. The life time of it's battery matters like the lifetime of your ICE battery matters...not much cause they are 250 bucks to replace
@@humanerror7 Thank you for this detailed breakdown my friend

This would have been a perfect Lexus ES replace. Shame they made it fuelcell.
This is basically an LS 500 they shortened up.
The filling stations in California are run by this joke of a company called True Zero. Half the stuff is off-line half of the time. There’s such a ridiculous company that don’t even have a phone number to call them. They hide behind some crappy app to show you what stations have fuel and what don’t.
Shame it's only available in Cali.
Yea this is basically a new LS 500 for $25k 😅 very impressive car albeit totally useless
You lie!!!
I have 2019 Toyota Mirrai
Full tank: 5+kg (last time I filled up 5.415 kg)
Price: $36/kg ($194.94)
Range: 239 miles
Even with the $15k incentive card still NOT WORTHED
Why did you buy it?
These cars have zero resale value. A 2021 Mirai only costs $14k with the fuel card. Unless you're getting a steal of a deal, you can have your pick of EV's at the 14k range and new.
hydrogen foolcells. unless something weird hapoens with physics as we understands it hydrogeb is dead as a dodo for vehicles. _all_ types of vehicles.no. its not suitable for trucking either.
Hybrid > Hydrogen > pure EV
Ice > Hybrid > Hydrogen > Battery EV
