If you had been able to listen to this without tearing up and getting chills I would have wondered about you. He just has this way of connecting with the words and the meaning of the words that gives a new meaning to them...almost as if he has felt them himself. WOW!!!!
His voice is like a finely tuned instrument.
when this song first came out I was a much younger man and in a way so much less equipped to deal with the story behind this song .. I cried buckets of tears then ... and I am crying buckets now ... for any person old or young rich or poor an average person or a very famous one ... when a tragic death hits them square in between the eyes they become the base human down to the core .. Eric wrote this song so that he could perhaps show the world how he dealt with his son's death in a way that was fitting for him and in doing so transferred some of that wisdom to people or persons that might go through the same thing and through the angst of the song able to get through the grief whilst still holding on to their humanity and sanity..... RIP Connor
30 years ago, at 22, whole life ahead of me with no inkling of marriage or parenthood in my near future... this song brought me to tears. It still does, every time I hear it. I was totally amazed that Eric was able to perform it live. I've performed it casually for small audiences as a guitarist and singer, and it's really hard not to get caught up in the emotion of it.
I felt those lyrics. Austin hit me in the emotions. He communicated what Eric was feeling.
Austin covers this song perfectly, and your reaction/analysis is second to none! Love your work Jen.❤️ Here is a gold sticker for you!⭐️
Ah thanks hahah!
OK, here’s what you do...react and analyze the performance, then sing harmony with it and post it either at the end or in a different video! I would love to hear you do that!
Ooohhhh!!😁
Oh! What a great idea!
Jen, you blended so beautifully with Austin's voice that it took me a second to realize it! As always, good analysis!
He did an amazing job with this cover. He always feels everything he sings, and it shows. Truly enjoyed watching your reaction and analysis to this song.
Soulful, blusey, warm…breathtaking. Well, that was an emotional start to Monday morning. Austin did a beautiful job on this song written from grief over such a tragic loss. His choices emphasized the depth of emotion in the lyrics.
Thank you for sharing this performance today as well as your insights.
Thank you, Angie! So beautiful
I think this is the most beautiful rendition of this song I've ever heard. Breathtaking!
Such an amazing cover. Austin did justice to this song so filled with pain and loss. I still find it amazing how Will Jennings was able to take that first verse Clapton had written and flesh out the remaining verses. When Clapton asked him to finish the song Jennings definitely did right by his friend. And your reaction and analysis was superb, as usual. I absolutely loved this reaction!
Ah thank you!
I always tear up when I hear this song. One of the best songs ever made. The reasson to why it is written makes it even better.
We played it on my sons funeral. Long time ago now.....
Austin is doing a very good version of the song. He puts his own tuch to it. Really good.
I like how you explain tekniks and preformance. Great job. You have a follower here.
❤️❤️❤️
Austin really does use his body in his singing. I don't know how much was influenced by his musical theater training and how much is just innate, but it always adds to the story he is giving. Watch "I'm not supposed to Love you Anymore" and see how his entire body portrays hurt and exhaustion. He does it unconsciously, watch the live rehearsal or the Sweet& Low live this weekend, he can't NOT use his hands. And it is more than just the usual a capella 'directing' that they all do from time to time, especially Tim.
oh, how can you NOT want to sing along?
Exactly. When I read this comment I thought about our conversation yesterday - and then I realized this was you. Ha!
@@kmwwrench so I'm not the only one that reads the comments without reading the poster's name?
It's like Scott in PTX Say Something. It's supposed to be a very still video - you can see him clutching the chairback to prevent himself from moving. 8D
Austin sings this song with such emotion, there’s almost a cry in his voice. And, as you said, vulnerability. I love the ambient music track int the background they Seby put together…I think it adds almost a haunting feeling. As always I loved your reaction.
I love how you explain everything while at the same time keeping things real.
Thank you Jenn for your reaction and your always instructive explanations of this beautiful version from Austin Brown of this tragic song from Eric Clapton concerning the loos of his son Connor in 1991.
Such a sadly beautiful song. And Austin certainly does it justice. Great review, as always.
Austin is able to convey the message of this beautiful cover. He does express the lyrics with his entire being. We lost a 4 year old child to cancer. Thus Austin’s and Eric’s message and musicality are so compelling and comforting at the same time! The lyrics are so powerful and state what everyone wants to feel after loss. Austin’s breath control throughout this cover, is phenomenal! ❤❤❤❤
Loving Austin! Thank you Jen! Very emotional and moves me to tears. Appreciate your breakdown!❤️😢🍟
He always connects to the emotions of a song. Brilliant 🎶❤️👏
It is so hard for a singer NOT to sing along with a great performance (my wife is a singer and has the same problem)… Great job with the analysis (as always!) and I loved your facial reactions and body language during this song. You're the best Jen! Keep up the great work.
Thanks so much! So tricky ahah
Austin is really great about making us feel while he's singing. Lovely reaction, & Thank You for your insight into everything he's doing while he's taking us on this musical journey. ❤️
This song is beautiful, loved the reaction as always 😃
Thank you!
Austin is just exceptional! Such a beautiful song, & he just grabs your heart strings with his performance. Seby’s playing is first class, as always! I felt so privileged to get to meet Austin and talk to him, as well as to see a Home Free show, & all of the guys will seriously just blow your mind! They seem very sincere, & truly seem to appreciate their fans. Great reaction, Jen! Maybe try to get hold of Austin and/or Tim and have a chat? Would love to tune in & hear that! #HomeFryForLife
I can only think of one word, HEARTFELT. Touching song with incredible sentiment ! I was moved also Jen.
After hearing you sing, I'd love to hear you sing a duet with Austin! Wouldn't that be great! Thanks for sharing your musical knowledge!
Ah thank you!
#HFSharpDressedManCover This cover is one of his best, IMO. So emotional, as it should be.
It was SO much fun seeing you in the practice session for Sweet N Low, Jen. I think I may have missed being able to hang out with you, but I know you were still there, listening in. I mean, how much fun is that, that they let us just come in and hang out, virtually, while they tweak things and get arrangements set for a show? Talk about a way to make your entire fan base feel like close, personal friends. And, Austin...so cute the way he keeps coming over and checking on those of us in the chat. Lol.
I swear I don’t think they can ever get any better one song from another, but they do. Every single time.
One of my favs from Austin
He gives me chills. His voice is so sweet and he puts everything into.💗
Great analysis Jen! Austin connects whatever he’s singing with the listener-truly talented.
Really, really good reaction and a great song. Loved it when Eric Clapton sang it Unplugged and Austin does a fantastic version of it.
Eric Clapton would be so proud of Austin singing one of his greatest songs! We need an Eric and Austin duet!
Jenn, you make me so happy when you fan-girl-out. And please, more harmonizing in the future because it sounds lovely. Thank you for a bright spot during a long Monday. 🙂❤
Ah thank you!!
I really hope Eric Clapton listens to Austin sang this as it such a tribute to Eric's song about his lost son!
peace
I love simple it is and how he allows the song to breathe. Wonderfully done.
Eric Clapton would be proud ... good analysis Jenn ... thank you for this .. one thing i like about this is that both Eric and Austin realize they are not worthy of heaven ... we all should have that attitude .. i think the Lord would be fine with tears in heaven ... crying can be a beautiful thing ..
This song always brings tears to my eyes because it was written by Eric during a very sad time in his life. Thank you for sharing Austin's version. You should do a voice over duet with this song. You have such an outstanding voice. Stay well and be safe.
Austin keeps getting better all the time. Voice maturing and I'm sure a lot of work. I would love to hear your reaction to Austin's rendition on John Mayer's 'Why Georgia." Been keeping that playing on loop.
I love that one too.
I love that you mentioned the hand gestures. I use them in my singing to remember voice placements and mouth positions .
So helpful 😁
This is my favorite Austin cover - just stunning. Thanks Jennifer! 🍟🖤 #HFSharpDressedManCover
LOL great intro! Rich like warm honey! You continue to be STELLAR in analysis and reaction.
Ah thank you 😁
Jen, you point out even more beauty for me to enjoy. Thank you!
Truly enjoy your reactions! Great, Grand, Awesome!!! Be Safe
Thank you 😁
These two work so well together. I always appreciate when the reactors give the accompanists their due.
You noticed something.
All of Home Free uses body language to give you a hint. Austin's open hands moving inward signals an emotional moment coming. Tim's right hand descending means a 'boom" is coming. Rob clenches his fists when he's going to do something soulful. Chance is the hard one to read.
I don't think anyone can sing this with the true deep meaning that Eric Clapton does, but Austin comes very close and does an amazing job. It is truly one of the songs, that if you have any clue the meaning behind it, you can't help but cry to. This song, and Craig Morgan's The Father my Son and the Holy Ghost, are two of the deepest songs about losing a child (even with Craig's son being older when it happened, the true pain in the song is real).
Austin singing this almost gives me Vince Gill vibes, who can write and sing a song with a deep personal meaning too.
Remember, Austin trained in musical theater, so some of his movements may be from that. Part of it, I’m sure is just Austin. but Tim Foust directs himself as well, so you may see some of that rubbing off - they have been singing together for almost 9 years…. Fantastic reaction, thank you!
Very few of the things you seem to think are taught in fact can be. Training in music theatre doesn't extend to directions as to what to do with your fingers! (Austin did very little in the way of music theatre before HF, so I assume you're talking about his training). He is a very gifted actor with a grace of movement and gesture which, as I said, aren't taught. In my own training, all the teacher said about movement was "Sweetie, you're not singing with your left hand, so keep it still." If you look at early recordings, he has the same use of the hands. Why you would think that he would copy Tim, I'm not sure
Eric Clapton fan, and, knowing the background, just makes Austin's heart felt cover so good! Seriously, tears, y'all! He nailed it, and I don't know why I'm surprised?! Dang, that was just...perfect! ❤️
I feel like Austin has been doing a lot of what we would call to e coloring on flute. Not sure what you call it as a vocalist. Love it
Would love to hear you two harmonizing on this song. I think it would be breathtaking.
Look for the Fireflies, so cool!!
Jen when you started to sing with Austin I got excited, y’all sounded so good together. I wish you would do a song with Austin. I’m on board for you. It was just beautiful. Great great reaction hun.
This is, in my opinion, Austin at his best. I've been saying for years all of the guys from Home Free could easily be solo artists.
Love your reaction - For me, Austin always expresses the emotions he is feeling (sad, happy, funny) and that's what keeps me coming back time and again. Hope you have a chance to check out some of the content from Sweet + Low Music Co - another great opportunity to see/hear fabulous entertainers.
Yes 😁 have been watching their live videos
This song makes me cry. I have no relationship with my almost 16 year old daughter since April 2019. Partly my fault for something that happened then. But mostly her Mother who has brainwashed her and done everything to block any contact. I am starting to think Heaven is the only chance to be with my daughter.
Jen, when you were singing with him, it was absolutely beautiful. Would love to hear you and him do a duet
To be his neighbor and hear 👂🏻 that gorgeous voice in the air 😮
Please don't say sorry for harmonizing with Austin. It was absolutely beautiful. Love your reactions & your analysis of all of the songs you cover. Thank you so much.
Hahha thank you😁
Austin voice one of a kind ,he is so talented.great reaction from you. The idea of Austin & Jen singing together would be great,if your listening Austin. Just saying!!!!!
Ah thank you!!
I just realized I never watch the video you are analysing because I'm always focusing on your facial expressions and trying to hear what you are pointing out. I'd love to hear you do a cover of this song too. That would be brilliant. Or a duet with Austin. That would be stellar! I do watch other reactors and they do help "educate" me too but only you can educate me and entertain me so well that I look forward to every analysis. Keep up the great work.
Haha thanks so much!
Jennifer! Here on time today. Ahh yes, a bit more ... contemporary Eric Clapton, though 1992 still predates you doesn't it. 😁 But I go back to the Cocaine, I Shot the Sheriff, Lay Down Sally days. This one was inspired by a very sad event indeed so tissues would have been appropriate. Yes you're right about the piano ... he sort of delays resolving the chord until the end of the phrase. And you DID harmonize with Austin! Planting that seed for the big Home Free collab! 😅 Well, sad song but great reaction/analysis as always Jen! I always leave with a smile. 😊
Hahaha just leaving that harmony there… 😂 thank you!
I love the stuff Austin does on his own channel a lot more than the stuff he does with Home Free. Don't get me wrong, Home Free as a whole is pretty much my favorite group to listen to, but they can pigeonhole Austin a bit (basically giving him the "belt really high" role a lot of the time). But, on his own channel, Austin really brings out the different tones and textures of his voice a lot more. You can hear him play around with dynamics and we get to hear him bring that tenderness to his voice. Basically, we get to see Austin be an actual artist on his own channel. Having said all this, Home Free for life baby!
SING IT HONEY YOU'VE A BEAUTIFUL VOICE!!
Thanks Jen !!! I really appreciate your analysis as always !!!
Thank you!
If you want a real tear jerker, react to Home Free's song 'You Loved Me Like That' written by Austin Brown. Its about a painful breakup he went through with someone he was with for a long time.
Austin really captured the pain and emotion needed to sing this song and your reaction was spot on. Thanks
I would love to hear you & Austin sing together. His Georgia southern accent might be a bit of a challenge for you, but that's OK. Your English accent would present it's own challenges to Austin. Regardless, it would sure be fun to hear.
I would love to have the opportunity to as well 😁
This is lovely. Thank you ^_^
I believe it was Clayton’s first Grammy, and Austin’s cover is exceptional as well. Jen, what you show us is the cherry on top! Thank you once again.
if you want my opinion you should sing this along with Austin your voice is beautiful and compliments Austin's
I have learned so much from you, Jen. Your attention to detail keeps me coming back.
Thank you!!! 😁
I still think you and Austin should do a video song together, much like the lockdown videos HF did. I think it would be wonderful.
Hi Jennifer hope you are having an great and awesome day ❤
The firefly was an amazing touch to the video. Give it the magic in the video. 👍🏻👌🏻
Love hearing from you on breaking down these performances. Nice to watch your channel grow! Take care and looking forward to your next video.
Well what a welcome suprise on a very Monday Monday lol. Been my most wanted for a while! Hope you and yours are well across the pond!!!
great review and analysis
Home Free and Austin in particular have a special ability to tell a story with their music. They invite you in and make you part of the experience. It's part of what makes him/them so very good.
Thanks, Jen. Really glad to hear your analysis. You put words to things I think about his music and arrangements but can't express since I lack the training. Thank you!
My eyes are leaking. Thanks for the insights Jen
What a beautiful cover from Austin. And I really like how you do your reaction/analysis videos. I wonder what the subtle pad-sound in the background is. He used it in Bring Him Home, too. I can't quite figure out if it is a synth, time stretched sample of the piano that is added in post, or a shimmer reverb.. But it sounds nice.
Hi Jennifer, please feel free to harmonize anytime you want. You have a beautiful voice! Your harmony on this song was awesome. Thank you.
Love it thanks
"Linked related to something I said"😂🥰 Oh Jen this is why I love you
Yes. Her personality always shine's through. She is brilliant.
😂😂 no clue what I was trying to say haha!
I always gat the feeling that Austin and Tim and the others in Home Free communicate with there hand movements and it seems to help the timing, as well as tell the others where they are.
would love to hear you sing with austin and Rob. stay well, stay safe.Merry CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR!
That was an absolutely lovely duet with him at 7:43 Jen. Great reaction as well. Always a pleasure to watch
Thank you!😁
You just couldn't help yourself, could you, Jenn? 😉😄 Great reaction. He's just waiting for the call...
This song has a special meaning for me. At the time I had no idea it was written for Eric Clapton's son who died. But my best friend died in a car accident and that night another friend took me out and I proceeded to get pretty well drunk. There happened to be karaoke at the bar and somehow I turned the page in the book and this song jumped off the page. I'd never sung it before and don't recall hearing it done in karaoke before that night. So I went up and dedicated this song to Tracy and somehow through my tears, managed to sing the entire song. I have sung it ever since and it's always done in Tracy's honor and will continue to be until we meet again.
The two of you sound really good together. His DANNY BOY is brilliant (just too short).
This is such a powerful song and gave me all the feels. Thank you for reacting to this one Jen. You may want to react to Austin's rendition of Bring Him Home from Les Miserables.
Please, make a full or a short clip harmonizing with this video! That'd be awesome.
Some things never change. Still cute as all get out. Still knowledgeable, talented, still personable, still witty and charming but there I go again talking about myself! You're all these things and more young lady! Love your channel, your content and your reactions! Stay safe and have a great day!
Haha your comments make my day 😁 thank you!!
I would love to hear this song with you doing the backup. I heard you do that 1 small bit harmonizing with him and thought it was exquisite visit.
Dem country boys is doin that damn thang... dats all i got to say about that🤔
This is such a beautiful song and I think it strikes a chord with anyone who's lost someone dear to them. I really enjoy your analyses of vocals and by the way, I liked your 'mini-duet' on one of the lines of the song! You really sounded good together! Austin is also so good at nullifying his accent on most songs - if you want to hear it uncensored, try watching his original video "Earn It" or Home Free's series "From the Vault" (the behind-the-scenes making of their videos).
Perhaps it's an acapella band thing - I get hypnotized watching their hand signals and eye contacts in their live videos. When Tim's going to hit a low note, his hand goes down. When Austin's going to go really high, he pulls his elbows down and slightly arches his back.
🥰🥰
I’d love to live there and have free concerts!
I'd love to see you react to something a bit different: Jonathan Roy - Next To Me (Imagine Dragons Cover)
I would really enjoy your analyse of his rendition. 😁
