Barca won the midfield battle in the first half.. Xavi wanted to do that to try and gain overall control and get De Jong on the ball.. and he succeeded. Ten Hag made a poor choice with his front four regarding their positions. In the second half, as well as the changes you mentioned, United also bypassed their build up method from the first half and went long ball over the top of Barca's midfield forcing them deeper where they were less dangerous and then pressed with greater intensity to put the pressure on higher up the field and force errors and control the game. Ten Hag changed his plan at half time and won the battle for control by dictating how the game was played by both teams.

Having said that I saw what ten hag was doing and to me it was amazing xavi didn't see it it from right next to the pitch, his subs have always been baffling, pep really trained him cause he just as confused as pep. From the time Anthony came on I knew what ten hag was trying to get at they managed to close down rashford but forgot the other players. When Anthony came on I would have subbed on ansu soon after, but he either will learn or be sacked. Well played united

Agree. Xavi biggest mistake in this match was focusing too much on containing Rashford during transition (he clearly put two players on Rashford) down that left flank. However when Rashford moved to the center forward in the 2nd half and Garnacho took his position down the left with Antony on the right, it shakes his whole tactical scheme to counter United fast paced transition.

Thing is even though his style of football is beautiful football but he understands the situation he is in and the place he has been appointed needs success more than style of play. Hence he seems fully determined to win and get success that's why you would notice him saying trophies alot recently in his interviews. He knows what he needs to do and is determined focused and ruthless to achieve that. Maybe after the success he's gonna implement his philosophy and style of play.

Good explanation, fair enough but quite simply Weghorst does not scare anyone so can be marked 1 v 1, Bruno wide right has never worked because he cannot dribble and is a poor passer. He creates but he loses the ball too easily; far better at 10 moving everywhere. Rashford up top means Barca cannot go man for man on him leaving a 1 v 1 because he is quick , strong and tricky. We all know AWB is a weak ball player though now he is far better. Far from managerial brilliance, Ten Haag simply corrected an initial error. This change he has made in a number of games to turn things around.
