Pep has changed how City play against all big teams this season. Against Bayern he used the wingers to do the job and protected the Center. Away he let them have the ball wide and kept his defense solid. If you look at them defensively, having 3 natural Center backs who are all good on the ball plus Ederson makes them have 11 vs 10 on the ball players. Arteta mentioned this in the interview and tried to stop Ederson from playing hence why they had 2 pressers between Ederson and his 2 Center backs. The trick today was use Haaland as a false 9 so Kevin can run in behind Holding. Arteta wanted to cut supply to Erling so Pep knew that and made Erling the supply himself😂😂😂😂😂 Freaking mental lad! Overall, what a game by City! I was cheering at every small detail on that game. Also, Kevin ran circles around Partey. He moved from the left 8 role to right then central and wide….10/10 come on City🎉❤

Pep Guardiola has truly evolved as a Manager. He has become less rigid (with possession) and more flexible over time. Back when he was at Barca and Bayern, some people criticized Pep of being one-dimensional, always priortizing possession but at City, we have seen and are seeing something different and out of the norm of what we would expect from Pep.
Now, the opposition can have more possession than City and yet City will beat them effortlessly. As an opponent, it's scary to see this version of Pep.

Thanks for the analysis. In the other words, Pep used Roberto De Zerbi's baiting tactics, but instead of playing thru the line via his 2 pivots, he preferred Harland's and Kevin's strength upfront to exploit the space at the back, consistent with Spalletti's fashion at Napoli. This completely deny Arsenal's ability to regain the ball in the central part of the pitch as they normally do. L Spalletti once said, there is no formation in modern football, its about spotting the space and exploiting it.

I felt that Guardiola found every characteristics of Arteta's game and found the solution to it. Arsenal was never able to attack the wings. As at the Emirates, Guardiola left Arteta the joy to say "I can keep the ball under pressure at the back". That's ok for Guardiola, he keep a pressing so that Arsenal use all their energy to play in their own half. That's what happened at the Emirates and happened here.
Arteta need to learn from Klopp. Be more pragmatic against Guardiola. Kicking the ball from the goalkeeper; play physical and with quick attacks, surprise Guardiola with the unusual, these things works. The rest...
Guardiola is an obsessed guy who loves to study and break downt the opponent tactics to prepare every match, specially if the opponents play possession. So the best it to surprise him and adapt, as does Mourinho...

Pep uses and knows Arsenal's tactics, hence knows how to counter Arteta and Arsenal's tactics. This is why Arsenal has lost to City 3 times this season.
What Pep did was to pin down Saka and Martinelli, then used Grealish to pin down Ben White so he doesn't overlapp to create a 2 vs 1 with Saka against Akanji. Also this stretched the Arsenal defence, leaving them open in the middle. Then he used Haaland to play target man rather than trying to run in-behind. As Haaland plays a target man, it gives KDB the chance and space to run in-behind. He also didn't go gong-ho pressing the Arsenal back line like he would normally do, he would press in the midfield instead, this would force the Arsenal center backs to be tempted to carry the ball into the midfield leaving spaces behind for the likes of KDB to exploit. It was a trap. Also when City were in possession, they were calm, not rushing, just taking their time to pick out killer passes.
It was just a Pep masterclass, any other manager with this City team last night wouldn't have beaten Arsenal this much.

KDB played like the striker while Halaand played like a hybrid between an attacking midfielder and a false 9, which meant that Arsenal's CDM and CB's were being dragged constantly out of position by Halaand's movement of the ball. The high press that's not tight enough opened up space for City. On the other hand, low tight press with strong pack in the middle would force City to go wide and use either a long ball in or 1-on-1 dribbling which would help Arsenal's backs to interrupt the flow and reduce a long run. To create a second, a third or a fourth ball in a tight space would put Arsenal in a 50-50 chance to play the ball against City's front.

Biggest mistake Arteta is making is not having at least three seasoned, experienced players in that team.
The way they gave a lackluster Liverpool energy when they were busy diving and trying to get a Liverpool player sent off completely changed the direction of the game.

Did anybody observe the "Plus two, minus one" pattern of passing when city had an extra man in the midfield? I think it was a key tactic for city to beat arsenal's midfield.
(+2, -1: Pass the ball to a midfielder who is two lines ahead but is marked by the opponent; Then flick it back to the pivot who was being cover shadowed by the striker/CAM who then can run into the space.)

Don't take this the wrong way, but I've known and bet at every point of the season that City will be champions. No matter how good Arsenal have been this season or Liverpool in recent seasons, overall City are a level above everyone else. And what I'm getting at is that City are at least halfway towards making it a 'Farmers League', which these deluded English fans are yet to realize. They will also be champions ten times, it doesn't matter whether it happens in eleven or maybe twelve years. Four times in five years plus this year they have already become champions. The PL cannot offer more than maybe longer tension in the fight for the title compared to the Buli.

@kennyt9857 they are just the blackest of the black sheep in England. No player is bigger than the club, but now celebrities from Hollywood are owners of clubs in England 😂 idk for me it's embarrassing ... in the recent years they are not even the worst in terms of spending money, what Chelsea just did outshined City. England is just up there because of money. They just bought success while others in Europe worked hard for decades. Where were they 20 years ago before it all started?

City drew in the press and the press wasn't compact enough from Arsenal leaving gaps in the midfield for Haland and Debryne to feed off.
They looked to use traditional fullbacks and played
Ederson as a third man defender during build up, they played a four-two-three-one in and out of possession and created most of the chances.
Arsenal however could not cope with these long balls and left way to much space in the middle which is a recipe for disaster, on attack they found success with Holding driving on the ball and using combination play on the right side to break into the attacking third, they also tried to isolate Saka with Akanji by playing direct long balls to him whicu was a bad idea since in the air we all know who has the bigger advantage.
