This was so cooling - the image of you in this lush shady area is so beautiful and just takes the temperature down about 20 degrees. I really love what you did with these hanging containers. I also really love the beautiful Japanese maples here. What a lovely area to spend time and enjoy family in a lovely setting! 💚💚💚

5 second rule! I love it. I was raised on a farm and my parents let me run shoeless wherever I pleased. I’m 28 now, and I farm on the same land I was raised on. I’m so glad the wild and beautiful nature of our surroundings taught me to enjoy the dirty things in life. Which there’s plenty of in farming! Keep picking up frogs BenjaMAN!!
Good morning Laura, I found your channel several weeks ago. I’m hooked! I am learning so much. I live in Florida and my daughter lives in the Blue Ridge mountains. I spent the last 7 weeks at her home. We wake up, get coffee, and watch your videos. Lots to see and learn. Then, we discuss how to do things in her yard. She is now in Florida with me and we are doing the same thing with my yard. We call it, “coffee with Laura” time. Would you please share with me where to find your mom's outdoor wicker furniture. Benjamin and the frog really touched me. He is so sweet the way he laid down to look at the frog and was so gentle when he touched it. You taught him well on how to be gentle with his hands. What a sweet moment ❤
Baskets are beautiful. With it being so hot would be a good time for a tour of your parents garden or a field trip with your mom. We love seeing her.

I will try this combination next year. My Scaevolas are also not growing well and it is in a part sun location and in good draining soil. It’s unfortunate because the pretty flowers and foliage would have looked pretty draping over my white planters. Your parents’ patio area is gorgeous. 💐❤️🇨🇦

Well done, Laura! Crossing my fingers that these containers thrive now. I bought a Bloomerang in the spring, and since it's new and blooms may be more sparse this year while it gets established, I underplanted it with white Sunpatiens. What a GORGEOUS contrast they are! 😍

Laura I love the fact that you kicked off your shoes and just enjoyed your planting project for you mom which turned out so beautiful. There is just something about the bare feet touching the grass, and just walking through it. Benjamin is such a good helper!
Oh that's neat. When we were little, we used to live in this small little bungalow with hanging baskets outside the windows, and we always used to get small frogs hiding in them when it rained. Such a sweet memory.

The hanging baskets turned out just right! I love how that white is going to glow under the pergola. I especially love the begonias you pointed out. I have had the yellow/pink type for a couple seasons now because I’ve been able to overwinter it under my grow lights. It’s actually quite simple if you don’t forget to water occasionally. My hanging baskets are struggling this year as well. It was great to hear how you troubleshoot these and that even your mom still has this from time to time.
I see so many months of snow that I have a tendency to prefer the colorful flowers more than white… but absolutely elegant plants/ planters/ porch😊

I love these. I have an area with deep shade that I wanted to use 2 hanging baskets. You gave me some good ideas. I also want to praise you as a mom for having a barefoot child who is outdoors so much -- AND for adhering to the 5 second rule. That's a child who will probably never have an autoimmune disease!

Laura that looks like a 14" basket. At work, I made up 90 baskets that were 16" diameter this Spring at work, and used 15 plants in each, (2 sufinias, 2 calibrachoa, 1 verbena, 1 bacopa, 1 golden helicrysum, 1 silver helicrysum, 1 golden lysmachia, 1 nepeta, 4 bush lobelia, and a peligolium centre piece), so they were pretty well packed in but apparently they perform for a good long season so I'm told by customers! I have that 16" size basket etched in my brain now! You made some really pretty baskets today for your mum. They look so lovely! Xx

You’ve given me inspiration to plant baskets like these next year for our porch! We tried baskets last year and they didn’t do well at all, so this year we didn’t do any! These plants are just gorgeous! I noticed no fertilizer or watering, curious if you watered and just didn’t record.

In the last couple of years, I find that wet weather, cool or humid, leads to this "rot" for me. I have a few baskets in the shade. I have to use lightweight extremely well draining planting mix, and I don't water them often, usually once a week (sometimes twice). If it rains too much they have to be moved to a dry location until it passes. I only fertilize when they need water as part of the weekly watering. The baskets are doing good.
