its because they usually studied, and they take their time making it, most of huge ytbers have less time than they actually need, so they stress and rush some videos or parts, and some aren't just greedy and there for the money. idk, maybe im js dumb

The editing in this reminds me of the stuff my teacher used to show the class for the game development unit. Love this
as an artist myself. i truely struggle with this a ton. this video game me such a big inside about the making of a unique artstyle, even though you probably won't understand it, this video is life changing lol
Gorgeous mock-up art, and a video well worth making. Also... we both know that that is more than just a single .png! It's a tileset, too - and more than that, it is creative pavement for the artistic direction for the rest of your game. A very efficient use of your time indeed.

Seriously thank you for this video! A game that I was working on fell to the wayside because I was too scared to show the level's art and I kept looking for ways to make it "perfect". I actually went through quite a similar process and now it's on the backburner, but this video was extremely inspiring and it's rekindled my passion for my project. Thank you again and keep it up!

heya! whilst i am not a professional in this field at all, i do have a small tip that you may already know to make your game loop better. its easier said than done, but the best way to take a game (at least from what ive found) is easy to understand, hard to master. of course, different things work for different games, but this generally makes a game a lot of fun. good luck with this game, it looks great so far :D

but yeah at least it got you to that final mockup which honestly looks amazing
also i have a thing where i kinda feel like this game might fit with a more lively aesthetic rather than a baren wasteland, this wizard dude just fits so well in such enviorements (also we could make it so that the reason that the world is so vibrant is the magic in the area, places feed off of magic so the parts with more magic/magic of a specific kind are more vibrant, doesn't even need to be realistic (aka green) foliage but perhaps even blue white or purple if you wanna go the funky route, and with that it could help in more coherency while also having more freedom, as you can make both the baren wastelands and vibrant areas together based on which part of the game and how the story is going, and have a reason to why things really are that different that ties it all together)
Yeah definitely, that is so true, I'll play around with it, after all the mock up did have a lot of foliage in it so I'm going in that direction.

Yeaaah as someone who has clocked a total of a little more than a thousand hours in aseprite, I totally get the "proving their artistic abilities to themselves" mentality. I freaking love blocky tilesets aaaand I barely did any, but your video has inspired me to get started on it so thank you !

Ive seen guy going down the road of making art for their games until they change ideas or aren't satisfy with it. Than nothing gets done gamewise. You only really need some crappy place holder art to start building your game and get the feel of it and confirmed its really what you want to do.There is so many things to be done before getting to clean great art, in a couple of week you could have a prototype of the game. By the time your game is done, the entire tilesets might just be swapped many times and its not an issue. It is so satisfying to give your game a makeover. In seconds you swap that old ugly tileset and it so much nicer...
I liked how very simple the idea was delivered.

Fellow teenaged game dev here. When I saw your first devlog, I doubted that the video would even reach virality. It made me really sad, because we both are in similar positions. But I felt very inspired after seeing your success with your devlog. And I also gotta say, the art that you weren't proud of, I thought looked cool. As a part of the audience, I didn't look at your work as judgmentally as you did, so that goes to show that comparison is the thief of joy. Great job which thanks for uploading this even if it wasn't much as I need to remind my self of any progress is good progress and just upload the update and just talk about my projects even if nothing happened that month. Which most people just want an update even if you did nothing. Which you art is really great! but to me the tile set does not add to the story but to the look of the game but what does is what details you choose to add over that tile set that does add to the story...

Hey man, I don't comment on videos usually, but your work is amazing, please don't stop releasing good content like this. And I want to know where do you think is a good way to start in gamedev, I have a bit of a background as an artist but coding for me is so difficult 😅😅
Wow that means a lot thank you! I recommend learning Python before hopping into a game engine. Just practicing making simple projects like fizz buzz. Then I recommend learning the theory behind the programming paradigm, object orientation. It's what C# uses and thus what unity is revolved around. And I mean just the theory, still not in any game engine. Although I would normally recommend jumping into C# and unity, I've been playing around with godot recently, and I think it's the next best step. So once you've learnt the theory of object orientation, I recommend finally jumping into godot and getting a feel for the engine. Then I recommend learning gdscript which is very similar to Python however offers a lot of object orientation features. For this step, I recommend doing the gdscript guide / app by gdquest. And I think you can then be free from there, do what you like, and game jams are always a great way to stretch your wings and potential. Take this advice with a pinch of salt, as this is not a formula, just my best advice at the moment. Wishing you the best!
