- 2018 Ram 2500 6.4 Hemi w/ 66 RFE ATS Transmission Thermo Bypass Install. Huge change in temps, about a 50* decrease. You will need 1” wrench, 1” crows foot, 13/16” wrench, 13/16” crows foot, 15mm socket, and a torque wrench capable of 10-20 in-lbs. simple install took me 30 minutes, minus having to go get a set of crows feet.
This Rascal is a RFE lifesaver! Especially if you tow medium/heavy loads! My Temps dropped from a unloaded average of 165-168 to 125-130. Haven't towed yet to observe towing temps. My 68RFE has not shown any ill effects from the cooler temps. 2017 Ram 2500 4WD w/6.7L CTD= SyN
This is definitely going on my 2018 2500 Ram w/ 6.4. I tow and my trailer weighs in at 8K+ I put a deep dish pan on the my 66RFE and it helped BUT this my be the answer. Mine runs @ 165 when trailering under nearly all conditions even when it's 95 to 100 outside. But if this product can reduce it to say 130 to 135 I am HAPPY!! Nice vid thank you!!
Great video!
I just ordered this for my 2018 Ram 2500 cummins w/68rfe. It’s a no brained IMO.
take away.... STUBBY wrenches, finally I get to use mine, thank goodness
thanks for the video, if u wanna come over and help w/mine c'mon 🤠
You can pre install the clips. Like in the factoy they want quick assembly push on and go
Are there any downfalls of keeping it at a cooler temperature? Also you just take it off and replace it? Thats all it takes?
Keane Kriebel the ONLY drawback might be a small loss in MPG. But I have not seen it. The Pros definitely outweigh the Cons.
Yes, just remove and install, that’s it! Super easy and super worth it!
It doesn't come to temp as quickly in the winter. Not a big deal.
Hey Jeff,
Any issues or problems since the install of the valve. Looking at doing this for my 2018 6.4L Tradesmen gasser....
Absolutely none Mike. Towing my 10k travel trailer up to 8500’ in 95* weather, I never saw hotter than 165*.
Best bang for buck mod to date.
What kind of climate do you live in? Any winter issues so far? Not sure as to what to expect here in Eastern Washington state USA
@@mjones6115mj live in NM, it was 19* here the past two days, and no problems in the cold. Summers here get stupid hot 100+ for multiple weeks at a time, works great then too.
Thanks Jeff! Cheers brother!
What was your transmission temperature when it was *19 out? I’m in the northeast and wonder if I should go with the mishimoto for the ability to install a thermostat.
Is this just for Diesels or can it be used for the gas trucks as well
Rich Joy mine is a gasser, I have a 6.4 2500, it works for 66RFE (Gas) and 68RFE (Diesel)
did you have to drain the system before you took the old bypass block out?
Josh Soulier nope, I barely lost any fluid. Maybe 8 oz
whats the part number? I have a 2014/15 6.4 Hemi that's just got a factory warranty overhaul and is still overheating the trans. they just said it was this stupid h-valve and ill be damned if im putting the factory garbage back in it.
Linearleer208 here is the link where I got mine.

I put this on my 18 powerwagon -66rfe
Normal running temp was 186-190 no load, now the hottest it gets is 155 doing 80mph on 35 from Wisconsin to Indiana
Normal temp now is 140
Davd Cooper best mod to date hands down!
gotta get one for my 18 power wagon. my Temps are the same as yours were. the stock unit is temperamental
Do you guys add more atf fluid after doing the swap?
zeddy61a I only needed to add about 6 oz to bring it back to normal?
I thought it was me, but your video starts about 3/4 through the install
Camera didn’t start when I wanted it to. But removal is pretty straight forward
@@jeffmoulton6600 Roger that. Thanks for taking the time to make the video
Jeff how much fluid loss should I expect?
Maybe a 1/4 cup to a 1/3 cup
@@jeffmoulton6600 hey thanks. Got it on. Went smoothly. Issue I am having is the transmission side fittings are leaking a little. I took it back apart and replaced the o rings and it’s still leaking a tad.
Any ideas ?
too tight... the ferrule nuts don't need to be that tight...
guess it didn't leak, and who starts a video with shit removed already.... any how, ill order mine and do it.
You’re welcome, and no it doesn’t leak.
@SelfReliance1015 my bad cupcakes. But I was stating a point. Im ruff around the edges at times.
Great video!
Installed mines today, huge difference in temps. Dropped mines roughly 20 degrees easy. Happy!
