If you've tried using software like AOMEI or MiniTool and then tried this method with Rescuezilla, which do you think was easier? Hope I was able to help either way :)
SPONSOR: Easiest way to migrate Windows to another drive → bit.ly/3KS1lFP
i think minitool is much easier
Agreed. But I know a lot of people have been having issues with it so I really wanted to make sure I could still help them :) thanks for the comment!
@@_Caddac when I checked out minitool it required a pro account to transfer
You didn't follow the video then because I say to use the links in my description for previous versions which aren't paywalled.
I prefer to just pay the $40 for aomei lol >
This is exactly what I needed I just purchased a new SSD and had been putting off installing it in my system because it all seemed so complicated. Thank you so much!
After trying 3 different software’s and at least a dozen CZcams videos 😭😭 I found this one and it’s 100% working and a breeze to use .. thank you brother
Thank you so much for this video. I was struggling to migrate my OS to a new SSD and you’ve helped make that process simple and stress free! Thanks again.
This worked great for installing an SSD in my parent's old desktop, I appreciate that Rescuezilla is open source too!
Appreciate you so much for making this video! I have an HDD slot that automatically boots to grub so when I saw the 2 windows boot manager options and clicked on the new one that I made then seeing that it booted to the old one kind of freaked me out. I didn't even think about removing the other drive in the first place, once again thanks for your help!
Absolutely banger tutorial mate, thank you SO MUCH.
Thank you!!! Super helpful and easy to follow. I really like ease of use of Resuezilla. This worked for me migrating an old 1TB HDD to a 1TB SSD (no need to resize partitions). I’ve been revitalizing an old HP TouchSmart 320 for children to use and now it’s got a way faster boot up.
Using a dual bay usb-c docking station connected to a more recent pc made things a little easier being able to pop in two drives into an external device.
Can’t thank you enough for this made the process so easy !!
Glad it helped!
Youre a damn legend. Im not so tech savy but even i was able to follow along by how you explained things. Well put together and excuted!
Thanks for all the hard work and help, cheers mate
Excellent video, worked like a charm
Was having ton of trouble with complicated softwares and others blocked by paywalls. This video with rescue ills made my life 10x easier, thanks!!
i literally found your other video today and am migrating now!
this video is perfect timing for me!
Glad to hear it, let me know how it goes!
Same here, I have used a mini tool before but I can't remove that annoying G: drive. I hope this method will do better.
Thanks for the help! This worked great to clone my OS disk to my new one and when I ran into some trouble after that upgrading to win11 I got help on the Discord server.
Perfect video! I verified if all was ok before putting my HDD back on and it was all good, but when I put it back in it went wrong. The pc wouldn't boot anymore so I had to download a Microsoft file to change the boot code but now all is fine. Thanks for this video!
Hey! Just wanted to drop a quick note to say how much I appreciated your help for this tedious process of migrate the OS and all of the system drive to a new faster NVMe drive: thanks a lot!!
I must say that I tried with other 3rd party software (Minitool wizard, Macrium, EaseUS...) but all of them are now paywalled. Your solution with Rescuezilla worked just fine!
I have to add, so that everyone can learn from my mistake: after migrating a first time, I then made the mistake to re-plug-in the old C: drive, which caused the BIOS to use it again as Boot Manager. This cost me to wipe the cloned NVMe drive to have it fresh, and start the whole procedure again.
I removed (not just unplugged, but like physically ahaha) the old drive and Win10 booted just fine on the cloned NVMe!
For another day, I might try to plug the old drive (a Crucial 256gb SATA SSD) once Windows has booted on the NVMe, so I can clean the old drive for new purposes. Apparently you can plus SATA drives while the PC is powered on (not just when shut down)?
Anyway, thank you infinitely for this detailed tutorial, it was so immensely useful!!
Cheers
Definitely perfect timing for me also.
Follow this method exactly as guided to migrate my :C drive from older smaller SSD to new bigger NVMe.
Works like a charm. Thanks man 😁
Glad it helped
I'm trying to do exact same thing but I have no idea what I'm doing and terrified
Great video thank you
thank you for this man.
awesome tutorial ty
Thank you so much for this video. I was pulling my hair out with everything else I tried, but this was brilliant and worked for me. Thanks again.
Yo, this helped a ton! I used it to scoot windows over to an SSD from a hard drive.
This is the ONLY method worked for me!! ❤
I couldnt figure it out why my new drive isnt working properly. Thanks to your video I unplugged old system drive and it worked. Thanks!
After dealing with a family Dell laptop that hates most boot USBs, I found that Crucial and a few other brands provide software to clone any drive for free if the software detects a drive from that brand on the computer. I was able to clone the OS to a new NVMe drive by having a crucial SSD in a SATA dock (that Crucial drive is for my tower).
In the future, I'll pick the the brand with cloning software over a slightly cheaper competitor. (Crucial was the brand that saved me this week).
Best Windows drive clone tutorial! 🙌 Only thing missing is some troubleshooting, which I get is hard if you don't run into problems :P
Upon booting Rescuezilla I was getting a "SGX disabled by BIOS" error, followed by another error that quickly disappeared and just stalled on a black screen. I was able to change the setting for SGX in my BIOS and tried again, and I got the same error, but then it actually worked as expected strangely enough. However, I read that SGX is primarily something for watching 4k blueray and has some security flaws so it's best to disable it again if you don't need it after finishing the data transfer.
Yeah I mean I can only provide troubleshooting stuff for things I experience. The developer is Rescuezilla is always happy to help people who run into issues.
Hero 🙌 🙏thnks alot!
You're welcome!
I keep using Minitool 10 and migrate flawlessly! Thanks a bunch!
There is no way it was that easy... thank you for showing this, I'll have this OS saved on my VentoryOS usb.
Now I have to figure out a way to move the windows manager from my third SSD to the nvme.
It actually worked. I tried using the freeware that other videos used, but it just wouldn’t work for me, but this video was quick and easy. I don’t usually leave comments on videos, but after searching forever for a way to clone my drive, your video is the only method that worked. Thank you! ❤
Did you have to unplug old hdd to make bios read new boot device upon start up?
@@jacobcaswell1799 Yes. It worked on my mom’s computer without any issues, but when I went to do it on mine, it found broken sections, so I was not able to clone that one. I had to reinstall windows on that.
perfect timing
You are a legend! Thank you for this! Just one question, my computer cant seem to find the appdata folder automatically, it constantly gives me errors and installing discord for example causes a problem.
Not sure if I screwed something up, but I tried this a couple days ago and it went terribly wrong. During the cloning process it failed and I lost the ability to boot the computer entirely. It went into repair mode and I wasn't able to get it up and running so had to reinstall Windows. Not the biggest deal but reminder to ALWAYS SAVE A BACK UP!
Looked at this comment exactly when it happened to me 🤦🏽♂️😭
it works!
Thanks
Was just watching the old video and it wasn’t working came to the channel and homie just dropped the updated vid what a blessing thank you🫡
@CaddacTech I've been doing the mini-tool version and I'm finding on my B450M BAZOOKA MAX WIFI (MS-7C87) and when I'm trying to select the new SSD as the boot #1 it isn't showing im getting a bunch of USB , cd/dvd slots unlike both your videos here I'm not sure what is going on as i followed along on my phone step by step and I'm unable to select the new drive
Excellent tutorial! I m just strating up my new m.2 drive with my cloned old windows drive. It took 2 hours
Glad it helped!
Question. I have my Windows 10 usb stick and product key that I already used. Can I use that to reinstall Windows to the new SSD w/o uninstalling
Also, can I use an external hard drive instead of a USB stick for Rescuezilla?
just used Rescuezilla last night to clone my 500 GB 960 EVO Win install over to a new 2 TB 990 Pro; used included Gparted to juggle the recovery partition to the end of drive, then gave the main partition the bulk of the remaining space on the remaining ~1.5 TB of unallocated space....; this seemed preferable to using Macrium Reflect or Acronis True Image, both of which would still have required used of Gparted afterward, apparently....
Thank you but how to change the order to move the basic data partition adjacent to the unallocated partition ? because my case that my basic partition is above not beside unallocated ?!
As I mention in the video, you drag the partition bar at the top of the resize/move wizard.
Hi, I have a unnamed partition separating my basic data and unallocated partition.
Should I delete that or just let it be?
Hey, while resizing c drive or shrinking it in gparted, it stop with an error. Tried again n same thing. Any idea why may be!!!
Thank you
Do you have to convert new drive into GPT as typically that what it says when you set up a brand new drive to install windows?
Thanks. I'm in a weird situation where my laptop came with a tiny m.2 boot drive and I just got a new m.2 too terabyte drive so I need to move windows to the one terabyte hard drive I have and then take out the tiny m.2 and replace it with the new m.2 and then move windows over to the new two terabyte drive :/ so hopefully this can help your old video helped me when i had to move windows to give my brother a drive with windows on it before i got this computer.
i did everything you said now my new m.2 4tb shows as the same size as my old m.2 512gb what do i do?
Hello, I’ve tried both this method and your previous videos method on cloning my M.2 and it won’t boot using from the cloned drive. I follow the vid exactly and the methods aren’t working. Is there something I’m doing wrong?
The drive I copied to has 200gb of recovery partition would I go back to the usb program to fix it?
hey i have a very old Athalon i think CPU and im trying to transfer the drive to a mini slim USB HDD and its not working right. Every time i go to start it up it goes to that blue screen and will not start up at all. i have to go back to the old drive to get it to boot back up im not sure what im doing right.
The video was perfect timing but I watched both videos and decided to use your first method. Looked a lot easier. I did it with the minitool version 10 (the current version is 12 I think, I downloaded the older version from 2017)
And it worked no problem.
Btw I also tried using this method twice first.
Both times I fried my USB flash after flashing the rescuzilla app on them.
It kept giving the error “you have to format the drive before using it”
But maybe I made a mistake (altho I followed ur video)
So idk.
I got the same error but the flash drive still worked for booting into rescuezilla even though windows couldn't recognize it.
I don't want to give a direct link, but etcher has an official blog post about this that should be the first result if you google "etcher broke my usb stick". You can use the instructions to format and keep using those flash drives if you haven't thrown them out already. It only takes a couple minutes.
Could be wrong but maybe your guys thumb drives mightve been in the wrong format
I got an error message that the command failed, cannot find module
is it possible to just make my ssd card my main drive instead of my hdd bc my hdd is 500gb and its making my pc run really slow, tried replacing it inside my pc with a 1tb samsung 870 evo and went into boot settings and put it on the first place and then tried starting up my pc but sadly it said some error with select a proper boot device so im trying to fix that any idea what i could do? ( i dont really care about the information on my old drive i just want to replace the drive so my pc runs smoothly )
I've followed this video all the way through, and I still end up at boot failure. Switching from one 2xxGB NVMe to another 2TB NVMe. Could I be doing something wrong when reshuffling the partitions? Everthing else worked, with no errors.
Will the contents on the drive I am copying to be deleted? I have a 256 gb SSD that is has my OS on it and is now full and I want to move my OS to my 2 Tb NVME SSD but the NVME has a lot of pictures and things on it. Will they still be there?
Thanks worked for me it would be great if after 11:10 (for people moving to larger drive) you had shown us how to move the partitions around instead of saying "like we did be before" I didn't see before since you said I could skip past that part lol I ended up having to use another video to do that part but helped with everything else so thx
I do talk about it at 13:37 as well.
@@_Caddacah! I missed that somehow! Anyways thank you for making these videos
So I’ve gotten it to show both my HHD and my new Nvme and I select the nvme to boot but it doesn’t. If I remove the hhd it will boot with the nvme. Pls help
Do I connect my old hhd while it’s on?
Yeah so when I try to boot with just the ssd installed it brings up recovery mode. What now?
I have now tried two versions of Mini tool and rescuezilla to no avail. Could use some help. With Mini tool I get as far as restarting into the program then it starts, gives me an error that "your disk configuration has been changed. Partition wizard can't continue" then restarts. With rescuezilla, I get into it, shows records in and out and tries lunching then my pc just stops outputting graphics until I hard reset and boot from normal drive. I'm trying to clone from an nvme in the mobo to an ssd plugged into sata port in mobo. What am I missing!
getting error redtoring image and wont allow me to clone, also can you not just clone the drive using etcher?
when i boot after powering down it doesnt show the option to go into boot and doesnt even show the option to go to bios is there anyway to fix this
Help! Mine is saying "Command failed: cmd/c
Throw error
Error: cannot find module
How does the process change if I'm moving my data between drives that are the same size?
You can just skip the partition resizing part
AOMEI and MiniTool failed me but this one worked. I always got stuck in the black screen of death :’)
My HDD is seperated in Partitions. Can i just select the C Partition or will it copy the entire HDD (Big HDD to small SSD)
You can choose the partitions you want to copy. Just make sure to include the recovery and system partitions.
Used Gparted to combine partitons, but when I boot in windows, I can’t see all the unused space. Is there a setting in gparted to allow this to work as intended? Flags on the partition are: “hidden, dish”
What partitions did you combine and why? If you need help you'll need to hop in the discord so you can provide screenshots.
hi all . i have tried minitool wizard 10 version , but at the last step , after i put my ssd on the 1 option at BIOS , it loaded and ask me to choose keyboard , after that reboot and did not complete , please , P.S : my SSd connected by USB , TYPE-C to USB . please . any advices ?
I upgraded from 500 gb to 1 rn but I get a black screen when i press the 1 tb in bios is there a fix?
Im trying to go through and move my windows and other files (steam, games, and other things) from an ssd to a nvme drive. When I do this process will it successfully move that data as well? Would it be easier to just reset my PC and move just windows and redownload steam and games, Im not worried about the files more just successfully transferring windows? Thank you!
This process copies all partitions on a drive so if all of what you mentioned is on a singular drive you'll be fine. Windows should be the least of your worries to be honest.
I got an error message @ 12:12. It says Error restoring image: Traceback (most recent call last) and a bunch of other information that looks like file locations.
Should you do this on a brand new SSD? Or will it wipe the one I already have. I just want to move windows to my 1tb off my 500gb ssd.
It will wipe the destination drive before copying the partition, not the source drive.
The first video got me wrecked bro haahhaahahah Gonna try this one this time whahaa 😅😅
Got very angry ended up deleting all my files and wiping pc totally. Other than that, video seems very helpful
After I flased Rescuezilla on to a USB stick, it had split it in to two and was asking to format each 'disk space'. Is this supposed to happen?
Update: I went ahead to boot from te USB stick, it worked but it failed to copy. An error message popped up but I don't understand what it says. Help please!?
cant move the partion to use the free space how can i move it to be next to the free space you didnt show us how
I have installed a new m2 ssd to my laptop, and have done every step in your video to clone the old hdd over to the new ssd. I found the «removing» part of the video a bit confusing. Do i have to physically disconnect the hdd from the mother board, or can i disable from booting in the bios?
Physically disconnect but only if you run into the issue I show in the video where it doesn't recognize the separate boot manager.
@@_Caddac ok, yeah it doesn’t recognize the separate (new) boot manager
@@sanderhenriksen2111did this work for you? I’m also putting in a nvme to my laptop and it didn’t show up as a boot option

Hey umm so I did the steps for the smaller to bigger one and I followed till we got to shut down the PC. When I turned it back on, I switched the boot order in BIOS and saved and booted. It shows me a PC Needs To Be Repaired screen. Does anyone know how to fix this? 😢
no just click esc on your keyboard to boot up
Can I Move and run my windows on an External Hard drive. My system has one ssd slot and i'm trying to upgrade to a larger ssd but I need to move all my files and windows to the new ssd and i've been struggling. Can anyone please help me out
My drive isnt detected in rescuezilla eventhough windows detects it, is there any fixes?
Thank you , minitool didn't work for me , this method is great 🎉🎉
The Rescuezilla eng screen appears no problem. Sadly though in the first attempt it just started the normal Windows Homescreen... So I put the command back in and changed the boot priorities, so the USB is first. Now I'm in an endless loop😅
Thank you very much for the video however!
I'm going to try redownloading the file on the USB Stick, but if anybody else has an idea, I would be greatfull!
Okayy 2 sec. later, figured out that you have to press delete to end it😂
What format do I need the usb in ?
The format doesn't matter, the etcher software formats it.
What are you saying about inserting 2nd disk after booting windows? Do unplug the old drive with windows, then boot new drive with windows, shut it down then connect my old drive and then the bios will show 2 or still 1 option, and if 1 then will it be the new or old one?
After booting the rescuezilla, selecting the language and the code appears 6:51. My screen goes black help me plss
Hey im having the problem where even after I copied everything to the drive my computer is now blue screening and saying inaccessible boot, before the ssd wouldnt show up on my bios boot order but when I removed the old hdd it does but now it still doesnt want to boot
Now im running into the same problem not only am i getting blue screened with my SSD but im also getting blue screened with the Original drive?
I must have missed something. I find an older version (as in free) of Macrium Reflect to be much easier.
So i run into an issue where it said it wasnt trying to mount or was in read only and couldnt move forward. It was directly after getting into Reacuezilla but before i could even get to the desktop menu basically.
Did you properly shut down windows like I outline in the video?
@@_Caddac Yes in fact I attempted both methods of shutting it down properly and entirely.
Idk what I did wrong but whenever I go to boot my computer it says I’m missing files
One of my old drives is kicking the bucket and I just realized the OS is on the dead drive so that’s good that I found this video to at least move my shit
Did not work for me. Rescuezilla couldnt load up properly. It was having errors. I tried with multiple usb.
I can’t open the usb now… it’s write protected and windows wants me to format it but I cant
any luck, that is the same problem that we are running into lol
Can’t find neither HDD nor cloned SSD in bios after resizing partitions…
@caddac Hey, Which Capture Card You Used For Making This Video? I Think I Can Help You With Capture Cards!

@@_Caddac Ohh! It's External Card but it supports 1440p @ 60fps. I will Study it and I will Tell You Tomorrow. I Thought It was Hauppage.
@@sonutwo781 No I don't have any Hauppage. It only does those things when it's a BIOS output. It works fine otherwise. None of my other cards display a BIOS output properly either, most of them stretch it. It's a common issue and why most tech CZcamsrs just record the monitor with a camera when in BIOS.
