- It is time to become Oppenheimer. Fallout New Vegas: Lonesome Road is where we become Death.
Watch my entire Fallout New Vegas playthrough from the start: • RTGame Fallout New Vegas
Fallout New Vegas is one of my all time favourite games, and I'm so excited to present the game like this. I've planned my character build in depth with the goal of pushing the power of my build increasingly to its limit as time progresses. The plan is to complete all DLC, and pick up increasingly powerful items and perks that will help us throughout the game.

The Courier isn't responsible for delivering bombs. Courier Six delivered a piece of tech, as a job for the NCR, with no information on the package or reason to know what prewar or enclave stuff would do. it is a terrible take to say the courier is responsible for what seems to be military negligence. The courier was a very unlucky government contractor.
Ulysses as a whole is basically just a walking r/Im14andthisisdeep post, a lot of big words and rhetoric with basically nothing to back them up
@@kommiekoathanger1418 This is my biggest gripe with Lonesome Road in general. Ulysses is a walking meme, to put it lightly. He says a bunch of filler that has no substance to it, he's more vacuous than Caesar and Caesar is himself a master bullshitter. The linear structure forces the player to do certain things that it then heckles you over, like launching the first nuclear weapon. It presents not just one but *two* ways to reset the story of Fallout in the Southwest (nukes and tunnelers) because Chris Avellone is not shy about how much he wanted to roll back the clock and go back to a wasteland with no governments left (which is, ironically, something some New Vegas fans accuse Bethesda of doing in the TV show). In general it's just a mess. Easily my least favorite New Vegas DLC, and that's saying a lot when you consider Dead Money being in there.
If courier six hadnt done his job, like he was supposed to, it wouldve been someone else. Ulysses doesnt even have a connection to the place that was bombed, as far as im aware.
@@Adam-ni6ne I can't agree because I think dead money handles it's themes of letting go of the past so perfectly with Elijah being a perfect villain for the story and yet Lonesome road which handles similar themes of letting go of the past just shits the bed so badly by having some knobhead wax poetic about how bad you are for existing and how cool he is because he hates the government. Also I've always thought that the NCR was a cool idea, this fledgling government trying to restore some form of civilisation to the wasteland is really interesting
@@calliecalamity8787 Ulysses was literally courier six before the MC so he was like a hair away from delivering that package which when you realise that, makes him sound like even more of a douchebag

Well ya gotta stay hydrated, y'know.
Ahhh, ED-E's playback talking over one of Ulysses' monologues, the quintessential Lonesome Road experience
“I have became the spurs….. the spurs that jingle jangle jingle.”
- John Oppenheimer
The bridge part of lonesome roads was the moment I realized, "Wait... this is an end game area, this is meant for a high level player..." Which was sweet, at that moment I was already full sneak gun build, and the bus moment just shat my pants, was incredible, best moment of NV for me.
The bridge was when I realized that maybe just because my melee and medicine is maxed out doesn't mean I should have started it 10 levels below what it suggested.
I love the fact that Ulysses spends the entire DLC basically hyping himself up and his philosophy and yet you can talk him down in a few sentences
@@MelancholicSeraph that is true but this guy has made it his lifes goal to destroy the ncr so it does seem kinda silly that he can be talked down so quickly. It woulda made a lot more sense if you were able to talk to him throughout the dlc talking him down over time

12:28 your courier being a whole ass person before the game started and having some achievements of his own to prove that is some cool AF writing which makes it a shame that other games don't do this often
I mean, Nate from FO4 is an ex-soldier and war criminal, certainly an extra bit to the character
As cool as it is, for many it takes away the draw of the Courier being a truly blank protagonist.
Granted, Fallout has never been known for blank protagonists, but before Lonesome Road it was one of the draws. It was easy to roleplay as any kind of character. At most, you had the mystery of Ulysses being scared of your name.
Lonesome Road, of course, came along and gave Courier 6 more backstory through them being a longtime courier for the NCR and Hopeville.
It's a writing decision that happened and it has its upsides and downsides. I'll admit it does help explain why the Courier goes from wet towel to death machine so soon after waking up.

Fallout 76: "We let the player set off old-world nukes to get epic loot!"
did you miss the end of the video where Dan intentionally nukes both factions to get epic loot, an optional choice he made alongside the initial nuke at Ashton
@@Mj1343_ That was mainly for content. OP was referring to the Ashton one, which the game railroads you into launching (and Ulysses chides you for because of course he does).
@@Biscotum I know what OP was referring to. and i was referring to the optional ones the game lets you use to get cool loot 'for content.' Both 76 and NV LET you set off nukes with no other purpose than the epic endgame loot and more difficult fights. You do not need to launch the nukes in 76 to continue playing the game (it offers multiple questlines all of which can be completed or nearly completed without necessarily launching one) and you do not need to launch the bonus nukes in NV. My point is that OP is ignoring the fact that both games do this.

When I realized me meta narrative of the lonesome road, I was taken aback. All other DLCs lock you in until you are done.
But you can leave the lonesome road at any point. But we are gamers, it is not possible to turn back from a path we started.
Ulysses has the same message as Sir Vilhelm in DS3.
"I've seen your kind, time and time again. Every fleeing man must be caught. Every secret must be unearthed.
Such is the conceit of the self-proclaimed seeker of truth.
But in the end, you lack the stomach.
For the agony you'll bring upon yourself..."
It is doubly funny, since both characters have different voice actors, but both have a voice like gravel
It's a bit like Spec Ops: The Line, which was criticized for the way it sets up the player to fail and berates them for it. People paid money for this DLC, of course they're not going to turn around and refuse to progress the story once they are presented with one morally questionable action.
"And now I am become death..."

I also started with fallout 4 and man its crazy how cool the older games are lol. makes me feel like i ended up making a mistake buying 4 over everything else when it came out ahbdshs
Ulysses is an amazing antagonist and is so cool in the way he gives a backstory to your character, which normally in games like Fallout doesnt get shown for role playing reasons
@@thegoodone4104 In bethesda fallout it doesn't actually matter, in 4 they really force your player character to gaf about shaun, from the cringe dialogue with codsworth "He's.... he's gone... they took him" to the dialogue with father "It's..... it's really you..." and the fact that it's voiced, really really sucks

Ulysses clearly doesn’t understand the phrase “don’t kill the messenger”
Yeah, usually doesn't end well for the killer
For those wondering, the General Ulysses mentioned is in fact the same President Ulysses S Grant. He’s probably one of the best known Civil War generals
Patrolling the Divide almost makes you wish for RT to play Dead Money
He said on stream that he's playing that dlc last so you'll see it.
Additional fun fact about how Ulysses was intended for the main game: The problem wasn't just Ulysses having too much dialogue, the problem was Ulysses and Rose of Sharron Cassidy. I believe it's been said that if you took all of the dialogue for both of them and put it together, it would've required it's own entire disc. The devs didn't realize this until right before release, so rather than going through and trimming their dialogue, they just cut Ulysses and saved him for the DLC
Never ask a woman her name.

And NEVER ask RTGame Daniel if patrolling the Mojave makes him want a nuclear winter.
