  • Is the IMX Cooler by Igloo better than a YETI? How long can it hold ice? I test out this $100 Igloo Cooler to see if it's better than a $300 Yeti Cooler. I use the Igloo IMX 24 Qt cooler everyday on the road, while I'm traveling the country and put it to the test in this real world example of what someone who uses their cooler everyday is actually like. How many days of ice retention do I get? Let's find out!

    Thanks for doing a simple real world test. Most other cooler reviews really overthink this stuff. I think this will be perfect for my needs.

      you’re welcome! i used that cooler for a year as my ONLY refrigerator. it worked very well.
      Igloo has since made some updates to this cooler and it’s gone up $50 in price. it’s still half the cost of a Yeti and definitely worth it though
      you can find it in my Amazon Affiliate link:

      Hey man! Yeah, I noticed the last name. It’s a great cooler. Tip I forgot to add to the video- put a silicone seal around the lid- helps A lot with ice.

    Picking one up tomorrow. Did you pre chill the cooler prior to your test?
    I usually put a couple 1 gallon milk jugs filled with ice in the cooler for 24 hrs before i use it.
    Usually gives me an extra day or so of ice retention.

    • @EscapingNormalLife
      @EscapingNormalLife  Před 2 lety +1

      I’m using mine full time on the road. So I had ice in there a few times before conducting the test, but not a full pre chill. I had food items in there with the ice. And by the time I did that video, all the previous ice had melted. So it wasn’t exactly hot, but it wasn’t completely pre chilled either

      I wanted the video to show a more “real world” test of how most people will actually use a cooler.

  • @CindyinArizona
    @CindyinArizona Před 10 měsíci

    A real world test would be keeping the cooler in the shade and the kids opening it several times a day.

    I just watched a video about your tear drop where you showed the screen over the door. I have a square drop and have been looking for screen for my door. Did you make it or is there a brand that made it.

    • @EscapingNormalLife
      @EscapingNormalLife  Před rokem

      they’re just normal but screens for a normal sized door, that i cut down and put velcro all around my door frame, so that the smaller l bugs couldn’t make their way in. it works well, but does cut down on the “entrance” to your trailer.

    Would have been nice to know outside temps. Did I miss it? I’m in the south and it gets hot.

    • @EscapingNormalLife
      @EscapingNormalLife  Před rokem +1

      you know what, i don’t think i mentioned the temperatures in the video. sorry. i filmed that while traveling through Waco Texas to Austin Texas in December. it wasn’t hot, but it wasn’t cold either. in my experience, after opening this cooler for nearly a year, and being in cold and hot temperatures with it, it handles well in heat. albeit, not as good as cold days. i get roughly 2.5days of solid ice before it starts to be more water on extremely hot days

    I have igloo imx grey but will melt 4 day just like your? Or should I get white instead?

    • @EscapingNormalLife
      @EscapingNormalLife  Před 10 měsíci

      the company uses a manufacturing process called “Injection Molding” to keep the ice retention high. i don’t know how much the color of the outside will affect the ice. i think that gray color is light enough. if you already bought it, i wouldn’t buy another one. if you haven’t bought one yet, then i had good luck with the white one.

    handle is not reinforced it mounts to the cooler with cheap plastic.

      Did yours break? I haven’t had any issues with mine. And I load that thing up to the absolute top with ice and food. It gets petty heavy at times.

  • @dansklrvids7303
    @dansklrvids7303 Před 2 lety

    Respectfully, this isn't a "test" of anything. The yeti is the supposed opponent here? You aren't comparing the Igloo to anything under the same conditions, and that's why all you can say at the end is that "it's pretty good." Compared to?

    • @EscapingNormalLife
      @EscapingNormalLife  Před 2 lety +5

      Well, if you’d like to give me a $300 yeti so I can compare it- I’d be happy to do that. But I quit my job to travel full time, and I’m on a budget. When looking at coolers or fridges for my long term food storage needs- I did a lot of research and found the Injection molding on the IMX to be extremely comparable to the Rotomolding of any top end $300 cooler. I chose Yeti to compare it to- because it’s a recognizable name with long ice retention claims. Most people think you have to go with the “best” of anything when sometimes there’s lots of other great options that don’t get the spotlight as much. This video was simply a way to say, “hey, if you’re on a budget like me and need a reliable cooler with long ice retention, then this is a great option compared to a $300 ‘best’ cooler”.

    • @dansklrvids7303
      @dansklrvids7303 Před 2 lety

      @@EscapingNormalLife I’m fine with everything you said except the “compared” part. Respectfully, if you’re not going to do a comparison, then don’t say you are comparing. There’s nothing wrong with saying, “I’ve owned it and used this cooler and I’m very satisfied with it, for the following reasons.”

    • @EscapingNormalLife
      @EscapingNormalLife  Před 2 lety +2

      @@dansklrvids7303 i see your point, however, that’s not what people search for on CZcams. So sometimes you have to play the SEO game if you want views.

      I have both. If there is any noticeable difference, I'm unable to tell. The Igloo is considerably cheaper, therefore, a no brainer IMO. I keep an IMX 25 in the bed of my truck all the time. My wife bought it for me on sale at Academy Sports about two years ago for $79 and had a coupon for an additional $20 off. Soooooo.....for $59 it's every bit as good as a Yeti without the second mortgage.
