Except it is way more then $10 more, that amount of extra plastic alone adds up. The Igloo was on sale and probably cost 60-80 normally and had thin plastic all around compared to the thickness in the Yeti. I understand the price difference is large, but anyone that does long-term outdoors events and camping appreciate a cooler that can keep ice for upwards of a week. The obvious test is to determine how long each will keep the inside to 40 deg F. Then, you decide which is more economical for your use. I suggest the most cost efficient solution is have a smaller cooler inside a larger cooler. Insert additional foam insulation between the two. Now, you have more than double the insulation which will keep your inside temperature to 40 deg F much much longer.

Never personally owned a Yeti cooler. I have friends who have them and they swear they can go a week without loosing ice. Of course...IT ALL DEPENDS on how often you access the cooler though. If you have beer in the cooler the ice wont last because it will be opened constantly until the beer is gone...then you have to add beer, etc. If you put vitamin water in it, it will never be opened and it will last much longer...regardless of the cooler brand ------

It always depends on what you are using a cooler for. With me, I got a cooler because we have had power outages that have lasted 10 days and an expensive cooler is already paid for the first time you don't have to throw out all of the food in the fridge. I also wanted it for long car trips. I have driven cross country 5 times and being able to really trust that the food will still be good at the end of a week is important. Also for longer camping trips. That versus people who just bought a cooler for drives to the beach. When I was younger, I always bought the cheap ones. But I have ended up buying multiple cheap ones and losing multiple refrigerator loads of food and at my age, I look back and would say to myself, "Get a good cooler the first time" It doesn't have to be a Yeti, but one that will hold ice for 10 days.

In my cheaper, Coleman coolers I’m actually thrown a layer of plastic and a small poly blanket over the top and that makes all the difference in the world too. So buying a cheaper cooler and doing expandable foam into the hollow top will turn it. Almost into a yeti. Not quite but good enough.

Yeti is for people who want others to know they have money to burn. It has more plastic. Plastic is incredibly cheap. The price is an insult.....but if they can fool people into paying it, well, there's one born every minute.
I have been using a Rubbermaid cooler for my lunches at work for 25 years. I can put warm cans of water in it with an ice pack and about 45 minutes later it's like it came out of the fridge. It will keep ice for a couple days, sometimes 3 days. I paid $14 for it 25 years ago. If there are more people who will pay that kind of money for cheap plastic and insulation.....I am in the wrong business. The profit margin is astounding!I also have a couple large Igloo coolers for fishing trips. They are very large coolers, and I paid maybe $35 for each of them. They will keep fish packed in ice for a couple days. Don't need to pay "too much" to get what I need. People have to realize a lot of brands are this way......not really different for the amount of price they have.

My Rubbermaid that I've used for lunch for 25 years easily keeps things cold for over 24 hours. It cost about $14 then, about $18 - $20 now. I can see no way why anyone would pay over $50 to get the same performance.

I bought a pelican cooler of equal size to that yeti. As a truck driver I was buying 3 or 4 bags of ice per week to keep food and drinks cold in the cheap cooler. I eventually bought a pelican and it paid for itself a few times over with how much money I saved on not buying ice. I went from buying 12 to 16 bags of ice depending on how much I was in the semi down to 3 or 4 bags of ice per month. If you'll use it alot it's well worth the money. Also... Pelican coolers are considerably better than yeti and cheaper prices. Better locks, bear proof instead of bear resistant and holds ice for 10 days opposed to the yeti that holds it for 7.

Drinks and ice in the yeti turn it into a two person chore just to lift it. Empty, the 65qt yeti weighs as much as a case of bottled water. The igloo is super light. The other couple camping with us still had to buy ice for their yeti, but we did have to re-ice once more than them. No big deal.

I can drop it off the back of my truck fully loaded and it won’t crack or open. This is cooler to keep. Those $50 you will most likely replace every year due to them breaking where as the yeti will last much longer. Mine are going on 5 years now. I am still on my first Yeti Tundra 50 (exact same Yeti as in the video) which has sat outside my Airstream (chained up) for the past 6 years. It still looks and works as well as it did the day I purchased it. Best feature is the locking features. In addition to being able to lock it where a bear can’t get into it, you can also lock it so a bear can’t walk off with it. The smooth sides provide a palette to apply stickers to personalize your Yeti. Finally, the Tundra 50’s inside dimension is enough to stand a bottle of wine or other beverage up as opposed to laying it down. That is the sole reason I chose this size which they no longer offer.

First- It's a Yeti... that goes a long way in name.. However, Over 20yrs, I've gone through at least 10 coolers at an average price of $50.00 - $75.00 each. Not to mention Ive had some coolers break while on trips and had to go out and buy another one... I camp and go on road trips often. 2 bags of ice in a Yeti last about 4 days. The coleman coolers hold a bag of ice less than 24 hrs. At an average price of $3.00 per bag if you go away for a camping trip for 1 week you will spend about $21-25 for the week just on ice. Most coolers, you drop them and they break. If you sit on them, they break, A yeti cooler, you can stand on them, drop them and they dont budge. So you can easily get (not there yet for me) but probably about 20-30yrs out of a Yeti.. I bought 2 of them, the first the smaller one about 10yrs ago, still going.. then bought the larger one for the boat about 5yrs ago. You get what you pay for. Does it hurt at first purchase absolutely.. But there is definitely a difference, and it goes beyond the simple walls and foam insulation.

Couldn’t have said it any better. Most people assume ice is just readily available. When I camp, the closest place to purchase ice might be 30-50 miles away. With my yeti, I can keep food in the safe zone (temperature wise) for days on end & never make a trip to replenish. I can pack game and hold it at a safe temp until I get home to further process it. The benefits go far beyond the price of ice.

It's common knowledge that a yeti keeps stuff cooler longer and is a lot more sturdy than a $50 cooler. Think peeps are just trying to point out that you are paying $350 extra for 2x thicker plastic walls and a lid that is actually insulated as well, unlike a standard cooler. For $50, you can go get pallet boards, frame out the size cooler you want, then fill the whole thing with foam(closed cell preferably). Will last just as long if not longer. Made one for a friend a few months ago and it holds ice for 12-15 days if not in direct sunlight. Can get part boards for free from some places to if you know where to look

I agree..... for most people. If you need something really rugged the Yeti or a knockoff might be worth the investment. Average family camping or day at the beach a cheap cooler is just fine.
I drive truck and see a number of trucks that have a Yeti secured to the catwalk behind the cab. Something facing that abuse needs to be solid and robust. Me, I have a cooler sized (65 qt) portable freezer/refrigerator in my truck that runs on either 12vdc or 120vac and adjusts from -6° to 50° and uses very little power..... and no ice. Cost me about $600 but has saved me more than that in bags of ice over the last two years.

Never had any other cooler make it past lunch on those sweltering days unless I did a 3/1 ice to drink ratio which just made us refill it more and melt the ice faster. Plus with the yeti ice packs and our freezer making some ice as well I haven’t had to buy ice in years now. I think $400 Is a little steep but it’s certainly worth $250-300 based on performance and durability alone

I have a 30 year old "Playmate" cooler with the pushbutton on the side and it's absolutely racoon proof. They might flip it over, chew on it, and drag it into the woods but they can't get it open. That said, the so called "5 day coolers" out there for $50 (discounted) are decent for the price and WILL hold beer / food / ice for 5 days as long as it's out of the sun.... and you keep the stoners from opening it every 10 minutes. The key is 50% ice by volume when packing it. Block ice does last longer because there's no air space. Hint: freeze your own blocks in plastic milk jugs with the tops cut off so you can dump out the block of ice after it freezes. Plot twist... leave the milk jugs intact and freeze with a small air space on top. The melted ice will stay in the jugs and your food wont get wet. Second tip: never put warm food / beverage into your cooler because it will melt the ice faster. That said, it would have been interesting to put a bag of ice in each cooler and check every 12 hours to see which one lasts longer.

Thicker walls (yes, but mostly makes it more durable). The rubber gasket in a molded groove also provides a better seal and the latches press the gasket together with the base. When I was homeless, I saved for months for a car, and when I finally got one, I put one of these yeti coolers in the back seat to keep food in. During the summer, the inside of my car got up to 110-120 degrees almost every single day, and I would only have to buy a new bag of ice ever 3 days. The ice would keep that long, and that allowed me to eat fresh fruit and vegetables every single day, instead of relying on McDonald’s or Taco Bell for food. I saved almost $50-$60 a week (which in homeless terms is a fortune-I lived off of around $95 a week)
That money helped me save for CDL school, which led to me getting a driving job that ended my homelessness. You might not be impressed by that cooler, but it changed my life.
