I’d cut it off the end and start with a fresh flat end. Use your knife to cut little knicks into the bottom stick hole too create more friction & will stop the squeak. It’s also all about downward pressure try kneeling down on one Knee with foot on the bottom stick and use your shoulders to push down into the stick. You’ll be popping coals under 10 seconds in no time 👍🏾

Take the whole pad and spear it with a stick lengthwise from where it was attached to the cactus, sing off the spines and lean it against a rock close to the fire. Watch so it doesn’t burn. When the first side is cooked turn it around so the back side can cook also. When finished, peel off the skin and slice into strips or cubes. They are very pleasant flavored.

Try throwing some rocks on your fire and heat them right up, the dig a hole in the sand and bury them about half a metre down. Its amazing how warm that will keep you, and you dont have to keep putting logs in the fire. ive done it before and it works for ages.

Rod I appreciate you posting your experiences. I get so excited when I get a notification of a new video from Rokkit kit. I have tried watching other you tubers. You have such a great personality, and seem so humble. Keep up the Good work. God Bless!! Richard from Missouri.

Bro! The plastic bag full of water idea was brilliant! Making fire with water, excellent!

Nice vid. I've had to drink water out of muddy cow prints once... long story though. Any water is good water when you're thirsty.
Prickly pear jam is a treat too. Eating too much raw fruit isn't great, as you found and I hate the super fine prickles, but any moisture is good.
At one point in history, the family farm was covered in cactus, until the the catoblastis moth was released. Poisoning did little prior to that.
Water, more than food, is life. Nice trout at the end there :)
Glad you took us along for the ride. Ta.

    14.25 that was truly amazing.
I would have kept that fire going just to prove the point for the rest of the video

I think with the bottle you need the concave base so you would need to break the bottle. I remember when I was a kid using the base to start fires. When mum wouldn't let u have matches lol.

Between the fire starting method and the plastic bags in the trees I reckon you'd be on the top of my list of people I'd like to be marooned on a desert island with. Cheers mate.
