Survivorman | Romania Part 1 | Les Stroud

- čas přidán 13. 05. 2021
- In part one, Les Stroud disappears into the forested Transylvanian Alps to test the skills of Romania’s top Search and Rescue Team, and himself. Les Stroud has survived in the most challenging environments on the planet, but few compare to the isolation and disorientation he experiences surviving in Romania’s Transylvanian Alps. Steep mountain ranges with thick forest make this rugged terrain nearly impenetrable. Following abandoned logging roads, weighed down by heavy camera equipment and travelling alone with no food, water, fire or shelter, Les must prove once again why he is the King of Survival.
Directed by: Les Stroud
Starring: Les Stroud - Zábava
One thing I really respect about Les, is that he is humble and fully admits he’s not perfect. I’ve seen him make many mistakes throughout the series, and instead of cutting them from the show...he talks about them. What he could have done different, or better, or not at all. Most if not all other shows just cut out the mistake...Not Les! It’s things like that that make me really respect him, not just as a survivalist, but as a man.🇨🇦
True. The amount of times I see him barely survive to the 7th day. Also the amount of dumb times he's cut himself.
You nailed it
Only one who has spent time in the woods understands that were human and very HUMAN at that.
This gives you an idea of what **YOU** could expect surviving in these places.
the biggest difference right now i think, between back about 10 years is the rise of smartphones, and especially more recent improved battery life / regular- and solar powerbanks
they would making getting your way / getting lost a lot less likely. and honestly a solar charger/powerbank doesn't take up much space or weight in a pack. nor would a phone.
And let's be fair, most people carry one. Downside, if y'r in the boonies - no signal. so a phone would be a glorified flashlight/radio at best XD
I deliberately bought a large Savotta Jääkäri (Jaeger) M - 30 L backpack. a somewhat planned survival scenario like this ? i'd make sure to have a similar survival kit, and with the amount of space i'd have (and that's Before adding the space my 2 sidepouches provide, adding a good 10-12L of extra storage space. for a single backback in the low-mid 200's plus 30ish per pouch...that's a LOT of space. be that for prepping or just for storage to take stuff along.
Either way. a good sized waterpouch, a firestarting kit, and some dried/dehydrated food. makes a HUGE amount of different.
But the self imposed challenges make it much more interesting.
I saw a comment a few years ago that said: “Bear Grylls checks under his bed for Les Stroud before going to sleep every night.”
Why do I remember that? Lol!
Good one.
😂😂😂😂💪🏻
OMG...😂🤣
yeah 5 star hotel bed lol! great comment
Best comment I've read about the Bear vs Les ever! Les is 100% real. Bear is all about drinking piss out of a snake skin for shock and views.
Man I just realized how little has changed for me. I was a kid I would sit and watch Survivorman and here I am years later still sitting watching survivorman!
I love how you just straight up told us “yeah, a guy showed up, but i told him im fine” on that one road, then continued to forcibly make yourself get lost :) You had an objective and did it
Imagine forcing yourself getting lost because your too good at finding help lmfao.
Yup lol reality is that was a very rare encounter. If you're actually lost out there odds are even if you find a track like that, it might not be actively used, or even if it is, you won't be in the right place at the right time to run into someone.
Can't get enough of these!
Same here

This is the best thing ever. I grew up on this show. Les is the man for putting it on CZcams for free!
Dude is alone. His early work was literally done all by himself -- starring, filming, editing, music. Uploading to CZcams suits his M.O.
Did you check out what's watching him from a bush? He climbs back up the cliff and sits down all winded from climbing and there is a damn homo erectus or some shit looking at him hiding in the friggin bush. 35:35 check it out
I was born and raised in Romania. Nice to see such a video. The Romanian mountains are indeed beautiful. I have been several times to the Bucegi mountains near Sinaia. Really beautiful. To drop a pun here, I just want to add , that Romanians are real survivals because they have endured dictatorship for so long. That is a different kind of survival but it is also tough. Cheers from Hungary. 💕
For what it's worth, I think you guys hold the record for fastest potential rescue with the shepherd on the horsedrawn cart so that must say something lol

Les Stroud is a Real Survivor. I Believe in this man 110%
Been enjoying survivor man since a young age, cant believe new episodes are still coming. 10/10
Its awesome!!
It's an old episode.
@@adhdude2854 🤫🤫
Not new 😂😂🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️
Les is kinda retired, he is only doing smaller things now.
🇨🇦By far my fav survivalist videos. The ONLY survival show that doesn’t have a film crew hanging out with the host 24/7. He is 100% alone. Can you get more badass?! Of course he’s a fellow proud Canadian too, so how can you NOT like him right!?🇨🇦
Now here’s an unbiased opinion.....yeah dude, you ain’t lying 👍🏻
Hes an awesome dude. Im not Canadian but a huge fan none the less
Plus he was sitting right next to an Alma at 35:35 look in the bush behind him and then zoom in
I really admire Les Stroud. Survival teacher, entrepreneur, musician. He has carved out a great life for himself all while being a down to earth, honest person.
As well as Airplane pilot among other things
He is terrible, he showed that a river has drinking water and you think hes a legend or great, shows you your a clown😅
I like nothing more after a hard day chilling and watching survivor man hes a legend
I love how honest Les is in all his videos. Very unlike other survival tv people who only show their best takes, have a back up crew, no mistakes or small fumbles ever included etc... it makes Les Stroud all the more impressive to me.
IK thats why i watch him he is great at what he does.
@jessa delix Hello and greetings to you from NYS in the United States!
I love the content Les puts into this show too! It really urks me tho that Les couldn't use his 3 means of connecting to a rescue team. A Sat Phone, Cell/I Phone, GPS locator, or a flipping mother of all flare guns are of no use to him...
Do you or your family/friends travel or do outdoor trips? If so, has any technology been in development or will be to combat the problem of the 'no satellite signal' for lost victims??

Can’t believe this legend is still going out and surviving.

The one and only REAL survival show. Well done, mate! These episodes are gold, even more than a decade later.
I got lost in Bulgaria's mountains, so this episode is bringing back some strong feelings!
What happened`?
Ya story time
How'd you get lost? For how long? How'd you get out? Would love to hear the story
Some say he made this comment while he was lost. He was never heard from again.
Vanished like a fart in the wind 💨
So good to see even though he's a bit older and can enjoy himself without working. He's still fricken out there after all these years. Hats off to you sir. My inspiration now and as a young lad.

Came here to say; From a fellow Ontarian and a fan since childhood, thank you so much Les, I've enjoyed your shows and also used several of the techniques you've shown in my own emergency situations, especially the zones of assessment. I and my loved ones all really appreciate your hard work and dedication to making it realistic and educational.
The thing that separates him from Ray Mears is he films all his own stuff. Support crew in distance, yes, as safety is important, but he is alone. Ray Mears is good though too -- a healthy respect for nature and old-timey tactics.
Cheers from Sudbury.

This part of the world has always peaked my interest. I once saw a documentary about the Balkans and it was like something out of a fantasy book, like Middle Earth and I was mesmerized by its wild beauty. Thank you Les for all the years you’ve taken us along to experience and learn.
It piqued your interest.
@@theinternets7516 thanks for the correction🙂
Yeah Romania is one of those places you don’t learn much about, making it that much more mysterious and fascinating
Trust me when I say the most beautiful sunrise I've seen in my entire life thus far was in the Carphatian mountains in Romania! It's a country well worth visiting, I actually got lost there and the locals took great care of me! Just do your research beforehand, the people are welcomming, but they have big guardian dogs used to fighting off wolves and bears, then there's the wildlife (wolf packs actually live even in Bucharest), lots of stray dogs - but they leave you alone if you leave them alone, so just prepare beforehand and be careful if you venture in rural or even remote areas.
It;s nice with great people and simple living. Great food and beer!
Hey Les at 35 minutes 37 seconds after you almost fall off the cliff you capture one of the best bigfoot sightings. Also after you head back to the road you startled something big. In the video you assume it was a bear but thinking now I bet bigfoot was trailing you throughout this hike. Good job unintentionally capturing bigfoot on camera! It looked like the bigfoot was watching you trying to decide if you were worth eating or not. Or it was just watching to see what you were up too.
Here because of Bob Gymlan

Albertan here... I used to watch this show on tv as a kid.... Was my favourite part of a day off when i was sick. Thank you for fostering the interest of an entire generation in outdoor survival.
Man that’s the number 1 reason I love this show.. Les is always honest.. he didn’t need to tell us a man came past offering him a lift out, but he did.. he always tells us the truth, no matter if it’s entertaining or not, it’s just what happened
Wow! What a great surprise! Romania, i'm Romanian. Transilvania, lovely part of the country. Hope you enjoyed it😊
It looks amazing, and not far from Ireland. I'd love to see it!

Thank you for mentioning just because you find a survival cabin, doesn’t mean people will find you in it. Many are abandoned and can take a VERY long time for people to show up, so seeing it as a helpful stop rather than ultimate salvation is something I feel is very important, I think many people would feel immediate relief coming across a cabin when lost, but it’s good to keep in mind ❤ Thank you for teaching me so much about the wild, Les. I’m 30 now but I’ve watched you since I was a teenager, thank you for your dedication to realism and education ❤ Also thank you for always showing us your mistakes, showing us that even you, the guy we all see as THE MASTER, can make mistakes and feel frustrated, it makes it so much more real
I sweat at work in the cold..and I hear Les in my head..NEVER SWEAT IN THE COLD..i peal off layers..been watching for years..survivor man is a legend

Les is literally my hero! This guy know his stuff and I wouldn’t want to be stuck out in the middle of nowhere with anyone but him. Could learn so much and most importantly NOT DIE.
You'd be surprised of what you can do to survive.
Been a fan of Les and the show since I first learned of him many years ago. The final line in this video is something similar to what I've always told people. The wilderness is neither for nor against you, it just demands your respect. Perfectly said and absolutely true.
Just started watching... can't wait to see how he deals with the roving bands of vampires!
The only vampires in the area are illegal loggers and they're more dangerous because they have chainsaws.
He will find a wild garlic field
And eat nothing but garlic for days!
@@oldmandoinghighkicksonlyin1368 Hehehe... I heard once that a paper cut was the worse kind of cut... but I submit that a chainsaw cut is WAY worse.
@@builderman912 Do you actually get anything other than flavour from garlic?
This is why I respect him so much. I have learned so much from him in all of his videos over the years... and he is so humble and real about it each time he goes out. He is always learning as well... and I am glad to see him keeping it real each and everytime!
Les Stroud is the boss!
One of my heroes right there, what an absolute chad, best vibes, best knowledge, and putting his shows for us on youtube? Total power move, dude deserves the world and way more.
I have been watching Survivorman since childhood and can say this has always been my #1 Survivor show of all time. Simply amazing and please continue to make more new exciting episodes!
This is why i like this man. He can admit you never stop learning in survival, and is not above filming himself saying it.
As a romanian, I hiked a lot of our mountains. Unfortunatley, most of them are full of logging roads. Basically, if you keep it to their extent, you can get to a village at some point an people are very helpfull with tourists. It might be a long road, but 90% of the times, they will fallow a small river, nothing complicated.
Compared to Alaska or British Colombia, this is a joke.
Just thinking of grizzly bears or possibly big foot, makes me scared as hell...
Love this show anyway, plus the man is a legend. Can't help thinking of his videos when I'm hiking.
Ikea is the root of that illegal logging because their demand for timber. Like how China is the root of illegal poaching of endangered species for their medieval, backwards voodoo medicine.
Thank you so much Les, for the hard work you do to bring us real quality content and for your teachings and generous passing of the wisdom you offer through your work. I among many others really appreciate you.
When I lost my home years ago, I used your advice and it saved me and kept me thriving (not just surviving) until I found somewhere to stay. I'm looking for work now but I always play your videos to keep me focused. Your narrations are awesome and I love having your shows on the other monitor while I apply. Thank you for the hard work.
Did you find a job in the meantime?
I'm 57 and longtime fan. it's nice knowing there's new youngsters learning about Les. He's the godfather of us adventurers both real and imagined.
I started seeing this video clip pop up on tiktok that says he filmed a bigfoot at 35:36. Something sitting at the tree to side of him. Interesting!

Visited Romania in 2013 for 2 weeks. Such a beautiful country, beautiful people and beautiful memories! Learned enough of the language to have small conversations!
For me, this is the most realistic survival scenario I've seen you in. Maybe it's me, but you seem to have made me realize and feel the despair and hopelessness that you encounter. Although I've never been in an 'outdoor' survival situation, I've had times in my life that have me in the same despair and hopelessness that I see you having. Thank God, I've survived. Thanks Les for all you teach us. Keep safe my friend.

So many memorable quotes in this one. Huge respect to you, Les.
This really proves that it really doesn't matter how experienced you are in the bush you can still make a mistake that can cost you your life.

7,000 views in 2 hours ! The original bush craft expert. Les does his own video recording, unlike Bear G. & and Cody L. It’s not about dangerous and crazy stunts or eating gross food. There is very little shock value. Just good camera work, inspired by beautiful nature land scapes. Les started it all and still continues to release new work on you tube. Over a decade of picturesque and inspiring nature, all recorded for their own beauty sake. I want to quit my job and go to the mountains, and survive. Oh well. Perhaps when I retire😂Thank you Les,for sooo many years I’ve been an avid fan ! Keep up the great work!
Original? Bollock. Look up Ray Mears in the UK. Doing this stuff when Les was in nappies
Original for TV shows
I will definitely check him out. Thanks for the lead, mate! Bear , would love that he’s British 👆🏼😊
I used to love watching Survivorman when I was a kid. I had no idea he was still doing episodes.
Hey Les, Wondering if you saw Bob Gymlan's newest YT video? What is that behind you in the bush at 35:36? Is that a tree stump and just pareidolia, or is that a very large something else that belongs in your Bigfoot series instead?
Gotta love all this awesome new content from Les. can't wait for Part 2!!!
Les, thank you for working so hard to keep us entertained and educated. We Love you man
I can't watch enough of these videos. I love the outdoors and love to learn how to make it out there. I'm getting old. After 10 children, I'm ready to go live my dream.
Thank you les. I've been trying to watch this episode for a pretty long time. I don't have the ability to subscribe to paid memberships on platforms to watch it. And I only saw it on TV once. I had already been watching you for years but this became my favorite episode the first and only time I watched it. Those huge rolling mountains stuck out to me as something truly dangerous and truly beautiful. I've been to places like that as an "extreme camper". Meaning i be spent most of my life going out with my dad and eventually on my.own for weeks at a time in the woods. There's nothing like having that feeling that you are so far away from civilization that there's a hood chance that your location and point of view haven't been repeated by another human, possibly ever. Anyways, thanks for uploading this. Sincerely, Chris anderson. Husband to the lady on the picture.
Always impressed to see how goal oriented Les stays even as you watch him start to get delirious from hunger
I think the biggest lesson I learned on this episode is never to rely on any one thing to much. Ive always believed a compass can get you out of anywhere, here I learned how it could get you in trouble. Really gonna take this lesson in. Use everything I have, but done fully rely on any of those things, rely on my mind putting all the data to use and checking all the variables. Thanks Les! We need this skills so much in our lives!
Don't know how I missed this episode. Seen the rest countless times. Best ever!!!
Nice to see Europe in a survival show. I like it. Also one tip on places like where Les put up his last shelter at the road thyme grows and you can make a good tea out of it.
You are nuts Les! that's why we love you man. I definitely wouldn't have the balls to go where you go and spend the night so you spend in the places that you spend them by yourself.
Have so much respect for this man. Absolutely love these videos.
Ive taken so much of les's words to heart over all these years and puting it all to practice plus my own personal studies of survival of course. There are many important things ve learned how to make tool wise from the wild and fire by friction.
Personally, I've only just discovered Les and this series and I have to say, this is my favourite survival series I've ever seen. Les is so down to Earth and honest, being willing to show his mistakes and how easy it is, even with experience, to make a mistake that could kill you in this situation. I wish there were more of this series being produced, but having a (I think complete catalogue) uploaded to view for free here on CZcams is the next best thing.
If you ever see this Les, you're awesome mate! You've got a new fan down here in New Zealand.
I love New Zealand! It has some parts that remind me SO MUCH of the translavanian alps. It looks almost like the Scottish highlands, pure beauty, and bliss
Still the superior survival show even after all the years and how much lower Les's episode cost

Here for the Sasquatch at 35 mins 35 seconds
This is one of the two-parter episodes I was really looking forward to. :-) I'm not from Romania, but the Carpathians in my country are very similar to the Romanian parts of the range, including the really tall and mostly uninhabited areas similar to the Făgăraș range (the Transylvanian Alps). Many of the shots in these episodes might as well have been from places I've hiked at in earlier years, albeit in different parts of the Carpathians.
Thank you for filming a whole two-parter episode in the Carpathians, Les, and stressing that even though they're European mountains, you can still get lost in the wilderness, or pick a bad trail, or overestimate your skills and underestimate the terrain, weather and overall situation. As you've put it, it's key to respect your limits and respect the natural environment around you, it's very easy to get cocky, overconfident and downplay potential threats and mishaps. I'll second the warning that one shouldn't blindly trust every old logging road he comes across in the forest, I have plenty of personal experience with seeing how deceiving these paths and roads can be, especially if they're disused.
Mountains are some of the environments hikers and tourists get lost in more than any other type of environment, so I always appreciate episodes where you try to portray an ordinary lost hiker. I really enjoyed your even older episodes about being lost in the Rockies, but seeing you surviving in the wilderness of the Carpathians, something I'm even more familiar with, fills me with joy. :-)
Really long comment.. well said though
Ayyyye !! Your a true inspiration in so many ways . Let's go!
