Nice to see you finally get to try some traditional Norwegian food. I eat this all the time. As a child, you get used to it, and the mental block is definitely the issue here. I was always served with mayo as a kid., now I use beets on it. Pickles work too. Anything you think it's gonna taste bad, will taste bad, no matter what it is. So mindset is everything trying foods. I have the same mental block, with quite a few Thai street foods, (Deep fried Cockroach f.ex). BTW The 'Naturlig rik på Jern' means 'Naturally iron rich', meaning it is very good for your red blood cell count.

Kudos to you for trying it 👏Now, if you dare to try it again or for anyone who wants to try it, here are some optional ways to have it:
    - On bread, but apply butter then the liverpaste
    - As above, but with a thin layer of mayo applied on top
    - As first bulletpoint, but with slices of regular cucumber
    - As first bulletpoints, but with slices of pickle
    - As first bulletpoint, but add small bacon bits on top (in norway you can get liverpaste with bacon bits as a premade variant of this paste)
I am personally liking the cucumber or pickle options, probably pickle over cucumber. I'm also "fuzzy" about the liverpaste in the following way: I prefer it refrigerator cold, I also don't like it once it's been open for about a week or two (or have been in room temp for extended time) as I do feel it alter the flavor some and in my opinion not for the better
😅 So keep this in mind when you try it, it's best straight from the fridge and when it's being opened (or the following week).
As a norwegian I have grown up with this paste and I do like it, but I know it's an aquired taste and foreign to many. And in regards to the packaging, it's to encourage other children to eat it as well. "Oh look, happy boy, he must love this".

There are variants of this here in Norway. I tend to buy the Vita Ovnsbakt one by Mills or a similar one by Gilde. These are fresh and only last maybe a month before expiring. The nice thing with the Stabburet canned one is it doesn't have to be stored cold, and can be stored for 4-5 years before opening.

It's canned leverpostej, it's so different from the fresh ( the real one ) and so so different from homemade. The canned one I love only because it's childhood memories from when my mum took us camping in the summer holidays.

Think of it as pate instead cause that's what it is =) like goose liver pate, or in this case pork liver pate. My favourite way to enjoy this is a thin layer of salted butter, then the liver pate, then some cucumber on top =) Also if you wanna go the extra mile add some mayo, and on toasted bread it's really good ;) Well done!

Kudos for trying Tyler! I completely get the mental block when it comes to things like organs, and it's completely OK to struggle with that.
It is very common throughout the world to eat organs, and other leftovers like feet, in order to not waste food. This was also done in the US, but it seems like this has declined throughout the last 100 - 150 years. In English it would be correct to call it pâté (although it's French), rather than paste. Paste sounds like something that is just ground down until it is no longer a solid, and then stuffed into a container, which is not at all correct. It goes through several phases of boiling, steaming, seasoning, baking, etc.
It is interesting that you thought it had a rich taste, as that is considered the most bland version we have in Norway. There are multiple other kinds that are coarser (not ground as fine), richer in taste, and infused with ingredients like pieces of bacon. Personally I prefer the coarser ones, and it is absolutely perfect if it is heated, and served with strips of crispy bacon. 🤤
The first child on the tin was the son of one of the directors at Stabburet (the company that makes that particular brand of leverpostei), and the picture was used because they thought it was fitting. So no particular reason other than the fact that a smiling kid gave positive vibes.

uppdate - YES, leverpostei is one of the healthiest thing you can have on ur bread, and i think its realy cool to see an american who usualy is used to all theese cemicals in their food, so even though you dident quite like it (i woud personaly rank this a 7.8/10) you can at least comfort you with it beeing insaneley good for you :)

    Paste eating hack:
The trick with paste on bread is to “less is more” really scrape it so there isn’t much on it. Then you add more if you feel like it doesn’t taste alot. You took too much on for a beginner to easily handle. Try adding a couple of freshly cut cucumber slices, only a couple, for an added fresh taste.

You need butter before you spread the leverpostei. The flavors works together and it's too dry without it.

Matter of opinion. And how will it be dry? It’s frkn liver pate🫠

    • @Atlas_Redux
      @Atlas_Redux Před měsícem

@@kilipaki87oritahiti Pate has low volume of liquid. That's literally the point of pate. Little liquid to make it more firm. Soft butter however has a high liquid volume, and the salt makes the taste much much stronger.

Growing up eating leverpostei was not an issue for me, but after growing up I had the same thoughts as you eating it. I can still eat it, but if I get in my head about the thought of liver, I can taste the iron and meaty taste and it will just grow in my mouth and be impossible to swallow. Don’t think, just eat. Can recommend using garnish like pickles or pickled beets on top.

08:20 To be fair, Norwegians - most, I'd imagine, at least - don't think anything more about Leverpostei than it simply being a spread to put on bread and eat.
And I don't think there are many that enjoy leverpostei, at least not by its lonesome on the bread.
It's pretty normal to put other things on the bread on top of the leverpostei to make it more of a sandwich than just bread with a spread on, like perhaps with a couple slices of cucumber and cheese, or maybe even with a wedge/boat of cherry tomato, some adding salt on top of it all for extra flavor.

Tyler... You just tried our worst liverpaté..😂 Try the baked , it's minced and much rougher in concistency, but it has bacon, and are DELISH ❤ Try the one from Gilde. It's much darker, and more like the natural home-made patés. In my house we make it with bacon and fried muchrooms❤

First of all, it should be cold. Becomes more soft-tasty and neutral. Also alot of people use it with butter under, and with pickles on. Should try it that way, alot better than leaving it alone on a dry loaf of bread.

you eat is the content on the bread after you have chilled the box in the fridge, you take the lid of you place it upside down on on a small chinadish and chill it. then you place the the leverpostei in the bread i think is taste better that way.
