My guess is that Silvia was worried her daughter would end up having a baby out of wedlock. It's pretty much the norm nowadays (at least here where I live). But back in the 90's it still had something of a stigma associated to it, even if not as strong as it was in the decades before.

That's actually kinda how I told my husband, just minus the candles. He came home from work and then I brought him to the bed to cuddle and kiss, then I told him he was going to be a daddy. It took him a minute but he figured out what I meant and got super excited with me ❤️💙🍼👣

As much as I love The Nanny, I didn't like at all the jokes referred to women's body. For example, Sylvia's shape is good, but they were always making fun of her about her weight and in a ridiculously exaggerated way. This messages get stick to the audience mind.
