That's the one problem any any guitar over 1000 dollars should come with a hard case
Those days are gone
@@beefnacos6258For like.. 20 fuckin years too =/
Damn Right it should.
I love my USA G&L ASAT to death and it’s my for life guitar but it was $1,499 and came with a soft case. It’s a pretty decent one though
📠
I can’t really describe the joy that the long awaited Delonge renaissance is brining me.
Personal opinion but I think the black one would look better with a black pick guard and black Invader like Tom's in 02, sounds sick tho
Was 01, he broke the all black at the MTV Europe awards when it malfunctioned during first date. Boxcar black was in 2002
@@Hurricane9146He had 2 all black Strats. One with an Atticus broken hearts sticker at the bridge (the one he smashed at MTV after the pickup malfunction), then he had the one with the white racing stripe which he used during Box Car Racer. In fact, the production black model is incorrect as he was rarely, if ever, seen with a black w/ white pearloid pickguard.
@@Travis-guy-247 In the "stay together for the kids" music video Tom is playing a black strat with the pearloid pickguard
Yup. I’m waiting for a BCR Strat release man I need that
@@invictarose203 Yeah but if you look, that's actually a normal Strat with 3 single coil pickups and a maple fretboard. It's not one of his custom shop ones.
I made my own several years ago. Fiesta red strat and I just bought a new pickguard and electronics. I also like the smaller headstock. And used a JB. Whole thing took an hour and saved me many hundreds of dollars.
Lol yeah pretty easy to make one
I also have both. The only differences I've noticed is the necks on the new ones are matte and lighting fast to move around. The neck is also way lighter in color to my 2000s era TD
It's great Fluff being such a collector. We get to hear the old and New.👍Thanks fluff!!!
Ordered a new black one to go with my OG surf green one as well. Since I had the classic Tom blink looks got the black for Boxcar vibes.
Fluff, the demo you played... a well made song! Love it!
Peeling the plastic off was the most satisfying part of this video.
Im so glad they added the treble bleed!
I also had the original one on daphne blue, surf green and black. Beautiful guitars, although I wouldn't buy them today. To me it's a little bit expensive for a 1 pickup guitar. That being said, I get that a lot of people couldn't afford one 20 years ago, so now's that chance. Great to see these guitars back!
Three colours in one? What year did you buy?
@@historyoflol5611 No, I mean, I have those 3 guitars. I got them between 02-04. I have some covers with them on my channel if you wanna take a look!
It was a sticking point for me, it seemed a bit highly priced - especially when we can compare it to a MX strat. But... January sales I picked up a mint ex demo green one for 900. Which I think is a much more reasonable price, especially as I always wanted one.
@@CagedPaps that's amazing! Like I said, I totally get the nostalgia around that guitar, so glad you were able to pick one up!
I put a defender pickup in my early ‘00’s graffiti yellow fender cyclone. It has a tbx tone control too. That thing rips.
Such a cool guitar. Wouldn’t expect anything less tbh, Tom is an icon.
What exactly is so unique and cool about a single pickup strat?
@@Elyoslayer If you gotta ask, then you just don't get it
@@bobbydrex5268 That's specifically why he's asking.
@@bobbydrex5268 I wish I never get it then cause spending 1300$ on this would only make me question my life's choices. You can get can really high end guitars for that kind of money and even endgame guitars on the secondhand market.
@@Elyoslayer They usually have 3, sometimes 2, so having one is unique and cool no?
Surf green seemed like a good idea but I wound up getting the blue. Love it more.
same ive always wanted the blue since i was a kid! so amped to get it!
Funny that this thing just came out (again) About a month ago I was thinking about building my next Partscaster and not even thinking about the Tom Delong, I drew up a one pickup p90 Strat with Vol and Tone controls.
Tom Delonge's guitar looks like something Rob Arnold of Chimaira would play. Black, strat shaped guitar with a single high-output ceramic humbucker + the pearl pickguard.
Rob Arnold's guitar looks like something Tom Delonge of Blink 182 would play. Black, strat shaped guitar with a single high-output ceramic humbucker + the pearl pickguard.
@@jsullivan2112 Now? Maybe. But back in the day he was into more colourful guitars, if I remember correctly. Even if he played a black strat it wasn't as iconic as his pastel coloured ones.
@@Chris-Ian Haha yeah, I was just being cheeky. Seeing how well that would work if I reversed the two and kept everything else the same.
It’s not like either one of them was first to play a bare bones guitar like that though.
Very nice !! Congrats !! :)
Blink has always been my fav band and Tom delonge was always my man crush and back in the day I *attempted* to be a guitar player and legit wanted the OG one only because of Tom
Love your videos Fluff!
As always an excellent job Ryan, this guitar seems very interesting to me, what is not very good is the price and why not a Squier of the same model, it would be incredible!
sounds amazing
Would’ve killed for one back in high school. 21 now and my younger brother is currently waiting on his TTS Edition strat. Lucky bastard.
21 year comparison = awesome 🎸🔥🎸🔥🎸🔥🎸!!!!
That song sounded badass! 🎉
They should either make a black with black pickguard or just sell a black pickguard to fit on it, just like the fender he played in the First Date music video. That’s a killer looking guitar
they have the same pickguard with the same format on a lot of online stores that sell guitar parts.
Such a sick guitar dude 🔥🔥
Hey Ryan ... did you ever consider getting a set of Graphtech String Saver cCassic offset saddles for your green TD Strat ? Better quality and if they don't solve the stabby issue on your right hand a basic neck shim should complete things ...👍
If you remove the pick guard is it hollowed out beyond the bridge pickups?
I hoped you were going to talk about the wood used for the body and fretboard. But I guess I can read that myself online somewhere.
I had the Squire version in high school. Miss the hell out of that guitar. The oversized headstock is so dope!
what is that blue mustang/duosonic etc at the end? and what video can i see more of it in?
I always loved the invader, especially for heavy stuff and its funny how much the internet hates it UNLESS its in this guitar.
Love your new Fender bro.
Hey dude! You mentioned you picked the weight of this new TD strat. How did you get the option to do that?
I got it in daphne blue but still waiting for it to come in.
did you mess with the high end shelf switch? did it do much? I thought they included that with the newer models
Are you going DI with that or did you mic your cab for that demo?
Great vid
Getting my graffiti yellow in later today beyond pumped
I like the StrungOut riffs in the mix
When I heard the announcement, you were the first person I thought of!
Pretty brave considering the last Delonge fiasco you had lol. Great video man.
I still have my Tom Delonge strat from the early 2000’s, it was my second guitar, mine came in all black with a black pick guard, over the years I modified it, I never liked the invader pickup on it, so I swapped it out, the nut joint broke at the low E after 2 years of playing so I had to upgrade it, but other than that, I love this guitar cause it’s one of my first guitars and I learned a lot of Nirvana, Rage Against The Machine and Static-X songs on it.
Love it!❤
You recorded a nice The Offspring-esq song :D
I remember seeing these for like 300-500$ a few years ago. I always thought ill get one eventually but for the price now probably not. Just glad i have a strat with a invader pick up
I’m thinking about get the Squier esquire deluxe and replacing the pickup with an invader to get that pop punk sound. I want to save some cash and I already have a nice Stratocaster. Thought do you guys think that will get me close?
I did that with an old Stagg copy and it will definitely work. That Invader does a lot of the heavy lifting for the sound. It doesn't sound very different from my new reissue. "close" is subjective but it'll def. be a fun guitar, don't expect a $200 guitar to play like a $1000 one out the gate though..
You'll miss out on some of the details like better fretwork, quality of the hardware but over the long term you can do more upgrades. You could even swap out the neck at some point for example.
@@JorisGriffioen yea I think probably change the hardware out and do some fret work. Im not really expecting it to be as nice as a fender but as long as the guitar isn’t a complete dud I should be able to get it playing pretty good.
You can own more than one strat
@@Ottophil I don’t really want to
It's my dream to have one of those guitars. Has been since I saw Tom playing the yellow one with a matching hat hat back in 2002. The $2300 price tag in Australia is so expensive. One day I'll have one in my arms, ONE DAY!
Buy a used mexican fender and do the same mods and save money. You're welcome.
@@beefnacos6258 I'd rather a legitimate one as it's an investment.
I gotta say, man, I don't think people are appreciating the riff you crafted to showcase this guitar.
The way the lead and rhythm effortlessly blended together was master-class.
Just got mine this week and I love it!
This is one cheeky little number 🎸🎸🎸🎸😃😃😃😃
Oh yeah! The one dude's opinion on this guitar I wanna hear/watch (not sarcastic) actually popped up in my feed! Dale yeah brother!
There's also a PCB mounted treble bleed attached to the pot.
TheDailyWoo doing reviews now! 🤘
Fluff can you confirm if the pickup is actually the invader neck model? Thank you!
No its bridge, just like on OG models and on Tom's actual CS models 😉 Plus, it's in the bridge position so... makes sense 😆
@@punky4673 There's a weird rumor out there that he used the neck model! Guess its not true though.
I want the Daphne Blue so bad but Fender showing OOS and I can’t find one in a local retailer to try out, and I really don’t like to buy a guitar sight unseen
I have the yellow one I got Christmas of 2001
Sweet. Just ordered mine in surf green. I didn’t want to pay 2500 for the original. Used at that. I’m glad they did this reissue
How do you like it so far?
@@Greasiola i returned it. Came with a lot of issues. Sucks. Seems they rushed it or something
@@Renee_Lopez That sucks man, sorry to hear that. What issues did it have?
Even though tge MIM stuff is at a level now that is all but indistinguishable from the USA production guitars imho. I have a MIM Charvel San Dimas that is absolutely STUNNING! Its a 2015, i did have a Locke custom guitars artist grade birdseye maple neck made for it and upgraded the hardware, but it was great before that too, i just love birdseye lol.
I like that jar to your left (our right) 😉
I kinda want to build one of these with a Fender Performer neck and come in around 2/3 the price.
I'm still really hoping they release Tom's new signature Starcaster model for sale, because I have a home custom Squire Bullet that I modded to be a Tom DeLonge copy, which, just two months after I finished that project, Fender released their own Squire single humbucker, single volume knob guitar, so that was fun. 😑 Lmao
But I still want a semi-hollow, because I don't have one, and a Tom Signature Starcaster would be really awesome, even if they also release a cheaper Squire option.
Such an awesome guitar! Also, does Tom have a signature Starcaster?
No
Not yet, it’s supposedly coming out later this year/early next
@@jeffe236 that’s super exciting.
Looks great, wish it had the 60’s headstock, but $1300 for a single pickup strat is pushing it
You can buy a nice squire for like 400 and put the $100 invader in it. Would be way cheaper.
I don’t understand why anyone would want a strat with only one pickup.
EVH '78 Eruption : " Allow me to introduce myself ".
so the headstock is different compared to the original?
I love the guitar but when I was younger it was 450 bucks that jump is just crazy ! Looke great still
I didn’t even notice the bridge saddles were different as I only just placed my order, but that makes me very happy. The original saddles definitely suck. My original black TD was purchase from a girl I knew in high school for…$100… and years later someone stole it from me.
I like my TD epI phone because it has a nice raised bridge and makes palm mutes feel effortless and comfy, so that’s wonderful!
If the black had a plain white pick guard it would be S tier. All the others can have the moto.
I like the single humbucker and volume pot. However, the traditional neck heel isn’t for me. It at least needs to be offset.
I've got my own frankensteined "tom" strat.
candy apple red squire
sanded down the neck to make it play better
fender locking tuners
custom white pearl pick guard
single seymour duncan hot rails in the bridge
volume and tone controls
kill switch for the lol
all the places I have checked only have the black in stock.
So many ppl have been complaining that it comes with a single pickup but do they not realize that when you take off the pickguard cover, the guitar has been routed for a single coil middle pickup, as well as a humbucker neck pickup?
are there any left or are they all gone now?
I wish these came with a maple fretboard
WTF it sounds great!!!!
First fret neck depth?
Are they going to rerelease the mark hoppus bass, I am jealous of anyone who owns one
There’s just something so funny about that …”Tom Delonge Strat” Hahaha
It’s literally the same except the neck plate. I had one in 02 in black. Ridiculous they’re charging almost double for the same thing.
For $1300, it damned well better be better than the ‘02.
Squire version please 😁
Do a shootout of each.... ooooooooooooooooooo ahhhhhhhhh
Does it have an HSS Route Mr Fluff?
HSH route I believe
A MiM guitar for $1300+ tx... nope! Nice video Fluff!
My wife was just happy they were still long
If i had the surf green one, I would’ve personally gone for the yellow one for the new one. But good vid! Always enjoy watching your channel
I want one so bad but they are sold out everywhere. I feel like most people bought them to just leave in a case and not play.
People are buying the yellow, blue, and green ones. Sweetwater and Guitar Center still have the black ones in stock.
anyone know how limited these are? like did they only make 1000 of each color?
Probably limited to the amount they can sell.
@@steve_troy yeahhhh I was assuming that as well
one spec nobody seems to mention is that this guitar has an old school Slab Rosewood board.
Whats the new one
@@OttophilThey both have rosewood. I think the point is, not many fenders come with rosewood these days so it’s another thing that sets it apart.
@@janon3405 it's a Custom Shop Spec. The Rosewood Fingerboards used today are not nearly as thick as the Slab Boards used in '58-'62
@@janon3405 also Fender is launching the Vintera II line (MIM models with Rosewood Fingerboards) so you will see plenty of Fenders with Rosewood Fingerboards soon enough.
Why isnt there a Squier Version ??? 😢😢😢
I may need to get new guitars soon.. more recordings i need to make to be at least heard like metallica or slipknot.
They need more body colors and a maple neck !!!
as a huge fan of blink and all of tom’s projects, of course this guitar is pure nostalgia fuel. but a mexican strat for 1300 is not even in the ball park. i’ll be looking for a hard tail squier strat and spend some time having a fun little project instead.
I wish they made a US made one, just not a US custom shop that would cost like 5k lol. Ps was Tom Delonge 's original guitar a MIM Fender? Anyone know?
Good question.
Can you tell me why people are complaining about it being MIM, is there a big difference from US models, would it have been any better if it was made here? or do people just like to complain?
Is it USA made? I don't know about a one trick pony Mexican made guitar for $1300. Heck I remember seeing a display of boxes of Tom DeLong strats at Sam Ash for like $350.
I just want the Obvious Jazzmaster should be the next sig
Sheesh I hate being a lefty sometimes
What do you mean you picked the one that was 7.2 pounds? Was there a weight choice?
On websites like Sweetwater, there is lol. There are usually 4 options to look at, and they are 4 of the same guitar but all different serial numbers, so there are teeny tiny variations in them. One of them being the weight. I saw some Tom Delonge strats in black yesterday that ranged from 6 pounds 15 ounce to 7 pounds 8 ounces. Not a huge difference in weight, but it is to some.
Oh wow, how strange. They don’t even offer weight differences on Fender’s website… 🤯
The mid-range non-US made instruments in most brands have come a long way in 20 years so I’m not surprised that the new one is a better instrument. I feel like old Mexican Fenders felt closer to Squier in terms of build quality, but these days they really stand out as quality instruments.
The MIM guitars took a big step up in quality around the time of the design changes in 2009 - darker tint on the necks, all black logos, updated colors, etc.
@@biznatcho7 was the same with epiphone, I had an SG from around 2010 and a Les Paul from about 2012 and the improvement even between those two years was noticeable
These have so many quality issues and have been made like absolute garbage.
Everyone has their thing but I totally disagree. Fender fell off around 2012 I'd say. My 2000 models blow all of the newer ones out of the water. Just my experience with it though
i can appretiate the bridge comparison but there's no way u couldnt come up with more comparisons other than the neck plate... u could at least talk about the invader vs the original one and a bit about the head gear or something
The Invaders sound identical. The tuners are identical.
Good lort save me I just placed an order
I'm expecting it to have some sort of conspiracy
