One of this years most highly anticipated guitars - The 2023 Tom Delonge Signature Strat from Fender. It's a simple, One knob, one pickup punk machine that is priced higher than we all expected but is it any good? A lot of people have received bad ones but this guitar put a smile on my face.

There is absolutely no excuse that this doesn't come with a hard case at this price point.

    • @NotBCT
      @NotBCT Před 7 měsíci

FMIC needs that sweet, sweet accessories after-market moneys. At least they're giving a (sub-par, el cheapo) gig-bag, most Mexi-Fenders get NOTHING, GOOD DAY SIR *I SAID GOOD DAY*.
But yeah, Mexican FMICs are wildly inconsistent. A Chris Shiflett I owned came with a very nice case at the exact same price point, the nearly $2k EVH Frankenstein comes with JACK SQUAT (yes, I know it's supposedly a "separate brand," but they're all made in Ensenada based on marching orders from Scottsdale AZ and that weird corporate office in Hollyweird).

    •  Před 7 měsíci

It's ridiculous, I got a PRS Silver sky 2 years ago and no hard case either.
My Les paul studio 15 years ago came and was half the price 🤣

    • @tomroberts883

Yeah, that's mad. No hard case at this price point is mad - especially on a signature guitar.

You’re right - my 1995 American Standard I bought for $900 came with a nice hard case that is 100% as it was the day I walked out of the shop with it nearly 30 years ago.

Fender doesn't give hard cases at any price point anymore. I recently bought an Acoustasonic at almost $2k and it came with a soft case.

I don't want to live in a world where $1400 guitars come with flaws

I've watched a few video reviews on this guitar. I have to say yours is the best! I really like the way you explain stuff. That invader pickup has a lot of power and it has a lot of bass! You might want to keep it a little ways away from the strings because it's so powerful I have one in one of my guitars I have it probably a quarter inch away. Pretty cool guitar great for metal or rock. Not really into the yellow color I would get a black one myself. Great review as always I'm sure this will be in the gear of the week. Thanks Andy😊

The pricing is ridiculous here in Canada. It works out to approximately $2000 including taxes for a Mexican made fender. I know it’s a completely different vibe, but the fact you can get a new EVH Mexican made Wolfgang for $500 less and it’s more versatile is telling. I got the graffiti yellow one as well. My one came without the ‘Tom’ engraved neck plate, it just has a standard blank one fitted. I’ve seen a few people have issues with this guitar but as yet have not seen anyone with the incorrect neck plate. Fender are going to ship one out to me, but that’s really not the point. If something as obvious as that can be missed and is allowed to leave the factory, it leads me to believe the QC on these is virtually nonexistent. Shocking for a guitar that costs £1299.

I have an Esquire where I put some Hot Rails pickups into it and a pearloid pickguard as my "main" now (well... "second stringer?"). Lol, I love pearloid pickguards. Comparing this with my same priced ESP LTD M-1000 Purple Burst, and there are huge differences. Stainless S Frets, 57/66TW pickups, no fret sprouts, FR-1000 bridge, locking nut, neck-thru, and overall great quality. To me, this Fender is like a Squire that it's pickup has been upgraded... It'd had at least a nitro-cellulose finish, as I already said in my other comment. They also have a MiM Jimi Hendrix Strat for 1100 Euro=1000 Usd. which seems to be working well... Also Nostalgia... Still in stock. Poly finish for some reason doesn't stick to the body on Fenders, and once it has a scratch from an accident, you can scrape off little chunks of finish, or the entire finish, by the scratch, it's for me a big flaw.

Im 44 and i can remember Blink 182 and Unwritten Law playing a show in my town when I was 17 or 18. Used my older brothers ID to get in and rocked out to Cheshire Cat and OZ factor. Smoked a joint with them on their Shortbus with couches. That was a few yrs before Travis was in the band.
Anyways, I want one, but cant bring myself to spend that kind of money on a MIM strat

Looks and sounds like a pretty solid guitar. Personally, if I was to pay that amount for a guitar, I'd like more tone options AND locking tuners. Then again, I usually sling Gibson guitars. Gotta say that even though this is a limited one-trick pony guitar, that one trick it does extremely well! Perfect for Blink 182 songs 😁

I still have my older Tom DeLonge strat from 20 years ago, the new reissue doesn’t really seem any different, mine came in all black I modified mine over the years, I never liked the Invader pickup that it came with, so I switched it out, the nut joint broke after a couple of years at the Low E string, but I had a roller nut installed at it was fine after that, the new price point is ridiculous, I remember a long time ago they had issued a squire model Tom Delonge strat that was way more affordable, but I learned how to play on a Tom DeLonge strat, and after a few tweaks it became something I always would use 👍

  • @yourbuddykevin

A guy could pick up a CXS built Squier at a pawn shop for about 70$. He could order a pre-soldered single humbucker pickguard with a generic invader pickup for 40$. He could buy a nice set of locking tuners for 40$ and if he can operate a Phillips head screwdriver he could make his own in an afternoon for less than 175$. Plus he'd have the bragging rights to say "I built this"
Now as fer me....I can't play a lick, and I poked out my eye last time I tried to use a screw driver and I have a sub 85 IQ but I own the biggest septic tank cleanin' business in the state so I'm a gonna just order me one of them purdy blue ones. Hmmm, loving your excitement at the guitar Andy, but crikey, minor fret sprout (and they look a bit chopped off); bridge/neck alignment off; and bridge placement off lengthwise as the low E can't intonate without cutting the spring. All forgiveable on a Squier, Harley Benton, etc but at €1400?! Fender need to get with the programme methinks... And then at the end you throw in your friends' poor reports. Eek. Totally agree with your closing comments.

After years of struggling to afford it, the body and neck for my graffiti-yellow, hardtail, single-humbucker partsocaster project should arrive this month. Were that signature's neck profile different, I would be very upset right now. My guitar will have a Wilde Pickups L500XL, a variant of G&L's PTB controls, a four-way blade switch to control the humbucker's wiring (position one is normal series; position four is parallel, with coil splits in between), and independent bypasses for each control such that the circuit can be made more minimalist. All single-humbucker guitars should have 32 tonal options, right?
