So why not scifi/fantasy category?
For the longest time, at the studio when a employee messed up. They were temporarily sent to the basement on some cheap brick PC to work on a ugly Shrek animation. On a pretty much free and bootleg software. It was even called getting shreked. It was a punishment that eventually turned into something much bigger than they had thought. That ended up earning much more than the movie they we're taking seriously. At the time.
Shrek and Donkey, AKA one of the most iconic animated duos, if not one of the most iconic duos overall ever made! 💚 💜

Shrek was incredibly endearing! There is a huge community of people who cherish the movie because it’s a special project that needed to be made!
Shrek is an all time classic from my childhood. Brings back so many memories.
Donkey is that one character who does not have a filter, whatever comes out of mouth will come out

Fun fact; Michael Myers, the voice actor for Shrek, decided at the last minute to redo the entire script in a Scottish accent. This action costs the studio 11 million.

I can't imagine Shrek without his Scottish accent, it adds so much character because you don't see many Scottish people in Hollywood productions.

Eddy Murphy as donkey is one of my all time favorite characters. You really need to watch 48 hrs, Beverly Hills Cop, The Golden Child, and Coming to America. Once you've seen Shreck it's impossible not to see Donkey in those movies. Eddy Murphy was just being himself. He was one of the biggest comedians of the 80's and 90's. His Saturday Night Live skits are epic.
Mr. Robinson's Neighborhood, Celebrity Hot Tub, etc. He was as big or bigger than any comedian today.
Us adults laughing loudly in certain parts that the kids didn’t understand was gold! Especially liked the jabs at Disney, hahaha
Hands down the best movie in cinema history. It encompasses life lessons, morals and an incredibly sophisticated plot. It teaches people about friendship, the true meaning of love, oppression and discrimination all in a very digestible and family friendly manner.

It's really entertaining to see so many twists on the classic fairy tale story - Shrek's not your typical hero of the story, Fiona acts like anythin but a regular princess, Donkey makes for a hilarious sidekick and Farquaad is...well, Farquaad is compensating hard 😂
Your commentary was hilarious, especially Magy having so much fun with the short jokes about Farquaad! It's like the pot is calling the kettle black 😂
The happy ending consisting of accepting who you are (even if in Fiona's case it means being an ogre) stays as relevant in modern times as it was more than 20 years ago. It also stays true to the theme of the movie - clearly not our usual "be good and good things will happen" kinda message.

I remember going to see this movie in the theatre for the first time with my cousin. A lot of laughs, a lot of feel-good mome … always a good classic to rewatch every once in a while.
I really enjoy watching animated movies with you girls on this channel. For more animated movies to watch, I still recommend the Japanese anime My Neighbour Totoro, Spirited Away, Whisper of the Heart, Princess Mononoke, and Castle in the Sky. You would not be disappointed.

This movie took me the lingestvtime to get around to. Ad a freshman in art school i developed an ogre story with the character having my last name: Schroeck, but i made it phonetic: Shrek. Then when i graduated wanting to do animated features, i applied at Dreamworks who used this movie to recruit artists. It qas i development at the time. They rejected me. So it took mecthe longest time to actually watch this. It was good. It was a nice “ take this disney!”
Great stuff, team. No tears this time. 'My friends, you bawl for no one.' - Well, this time anyway. I believe Fiona is voiced by Cameron Diaz. I'm sure Prince Farquad is based on Prince Humperdinck from 'The Princess Bride'. Lkg fwd to 2 and 3 - you won't be disappointed.

I have 3 sisters and we went to a dress up party when I was 14-ish and I wore a green dress like that, my auntie put my hair into a plait, my sisters wore other Disney princess outfits. This movie was once a big deal. (I am a transman if your wondering why my picture is male).
