The best most comprehensive review on 705. Thanks 73
You did an excellent job of going through the features of this radio. The only thing I didn't like was that it enticed me to spend money on this radio which I don't need since I have the IC-7300! Wow. What a huge temptation. This radio is now firmly ensconced at the top of my radio want list. Thanks Pascal. You da man.
I have the 7300 as my main rig and the IC-705 sits proudly next to it. Besides the VHF/UHF, it brings some other benefits to my shack and the combo is terrific. I can pick up and go any time I want with the 705 and I know that many of the fine-tuning elements are the same as with the 7300, so I recommend you spend the money!
Thank you, Pascal! I've been watching your videos since before I got licensed, and they're great!
I'm a new US ham. I got my Technician rating March 1st of this year, and upgraded to General a couple of days ago. I bought the 705, before taking my General exam, as my first HF rig. I defied conventional wisdom and went QRP for my first HF rig because I see myself primarily as a portable operator: I can amp it as circumstances allow or dictate. The 705 won me over with its mastery of the digital modes and the ability to operate wirelessly (now please, Icom, update the firmware to give us a second COM port). 73, KN6NPZ San Jose, California
Awesome video Pascal. I've had my IC-705 for a few months now and am still finding out things that I didn't know or hadn't given a second thought about; appreciate your tips! This radio is my first D-Star rig, would love to see you put together an IC-705 centric D-Star video.
Pascal, As always, I find your videos to be informative and very well done! Thank you for your efforts, I particularly enjoyed this one because I am seriously considering purchase of the IC-705 this year, as my aging Icom IC-706MK-IIG and Yaesu FT-857D radios have served me well and owe me little at this point. The '705 appears to be everything I hoped it would be and more. I would not have known without your detailed overview. Thank you again! 73, Mike, KG4Y
Another game changer from ICOM!!! Great video, Pascal!
Magistrale démonstration Pascal, vous le connaissez tellement bien qu’on dirait que vous l’avez tricoté ! 73’s
Thank you for this informative video. It actually helped me understand some of the features of my IC7300. Considering an IC705 for SOTA/POTA work.
Thanks for another excellent video. It was like going over to a fellow hamster QTH and having him show you his new radio. Thanks for your friendly delivery style.
Helpful overview. Thank you!
Incredible walkthrough. Thank you. 73
just found your video very detailed.that!s terrific job thanks Pascal you number one from kb2uew
Outstanding presentation as usual.
Fantastic video, very informative and professional quality. I'm a new subscriber! Merci!!
Very good explanations! Thanks
Hey! Sounds like me at timestamp 260s :-) Good review, congrats! 73 de Ernst
Great overview!
Well done! I learned things.
I have both 7300 with panadapter and 9700..both excellent 👏 radios, no plans to upgrade.
if i was qrp or portable the ic705 would be beautiful.
Thanks for information
Very thorough explanation 🙄 will use this video as a reference. 7 3
Well done. Thanks.
Pascal, that was a wonderful video. I learned some things about my new radio! I love the videos, thanks. I would whole heartedly recommend that you produce an alternate version in which you slow down a bit, and explain more of each feature for the new ham. The IC-705 is a great radio for the new ham . . . I'll be there will be many people who love the overview, but who are lost in every detail as you move so fast from one item to another. I have no complaints, it's a great review. I'm just saying that if you become the "go to" guy for ham videos that are useful AS WELL for the new ham, your numbers on CZcams should go up dramatically over time. Best wishes to you! W7DGJ
Hi Dave, it's fast I know as there's too much to cover. My suggestion is to rewind, some subjects could have been done in separate videos but I wanted a full walk through. 73
@@Laboenligne Hi Pascal, I don't mind longer video when I'm able to understand more. Here I had to rewind every few seconds to see or conceive whats happening. It's maybe more oriented for 705 owners or ICOM owners as I'm not so familiar with this UI to conceive so quickly what is happening. A part from this it's great video and many thanks for doing great job. 73
Bravissimo compliments!
Super video Pascal. Can you share what amp you use and what cable connections to get the approx 200 watts out? 73 my friend
Maybe you covered this but if you see a line on the waterfall you don't have to tune to it you can push and hold were the line is and the radio will change frequency to where you push.
Excellent - Thank You

How often does ICOM issue new firmware with bug fixes and new features? Since it's an SDR radio they could do a lot of cool things that way, if their business model allowed it.
j'aimerais bien entendre la qualité de la modulation en des stars en reception
Great review very helpful. I cant get my windows 10 to recognise my ic705. I downloaded drivers from icom but still no luck any help please.
Hi Steve, sometimes Windows keeps multiple copies of a driver if you've tried different port. Unplug the IC-705 from the computer, go in device manager, in the "view" top menu (sorry mine is in French), there will be an option to show all hidden devices. Find the one about the IC-705, if you're not sure, resinstall the driver to see the name, delete them all, reboot and install the driver, don't connect the IC-705 to the computer until the driver is reinstalled, then it should work. Hope this help. 73 Pascal VA2PV
Thank you! Hopeful icon passes you some coin, because you just sold this.
I probably missed it but does this radio to SSB on 2M and 70CM? But great video. Sorry I didn't pay closer attention.
Yes, all modes all bands ! 73
I didn't want to get this radio but SSB on all modes plus D-Star changes my mind. Thanks!@@Laboenligne
I see this interface compared to the 7300 a lot. It is a bit different than the 7300, and a closer UI of the 9700. For example, the Memory/VFO look a little different, and on the 7300 they can't be pushed to change them. There is also no khz/m-ch on the 7300, so you can't run through them with the multi knob. The 705/9700 version is a bit better.
I think they're just different. 73
Wonderful review .. thank you. Do you (or anyone) know if I can control the IC-705 with a USB or Bluetooth mouse? 73's
For now USB, but I wan't to try BT and WiFi... 73
Well done video. Very informative. Thanks for posting. KU3X/QRP
Compared with ic7300, which is better, and their differences?
They're too different to compare, one is a QRP (IC-705, 10W max) with VHF and UHF, the other (IC-7300) is HF only but with 100Watts. 73
The Yeasu 817 is smaller and has two antenna ports. Icom just got lazy on that one.
Not that I'm in the market for a $1300 rig right now, but I never thought much about it actually. That is a big convenience of the 817/818 for me. I like having two seperate antenna ports and being able to change how they're assigned depending on how I'm operating. Good observation.
Well, there's no comparison about the screen, 4.3 inches color display with waterfalls. Just consider this. 73
Yes, yours is smaller but heavier. Put it in a napsack and go for a hike. Yucks! Sore back! Everything about the design of the 705 makes sense. Yes, one Antenna input, but each one you add puts on additional heft. You can pick this thing up with one hand or carry it for hours on your back. I was working on my practice CW with the output turned down to 2% (2% of a total 5W as I was on battery) and I got a return call from three states away! Amazing rig.
@@Laboenligne It is a very nice display, there's no comparison there! Unfortunately from working on a computer, phone, and tablet, so much the last thing I want to see is another color touch screen at the end of the day lol. Enjoyed the review though!
@@davejensen8119 Nice work on the contact! QRP never ceases to amaze me.
I’m in Oklahoma USA
Reading up to get my ham License
learn to assign functions to the multi knob
Wow! Impressive but FAST! Had to pause a dozen times!!!

All modes on all bands? I'm calling B.S. It doesn't do the 1.25 meter (220 MHz) band, it's receiver won't even receive that band. That's a deal breaker for me, regardless of the fact that there's not much on 1.25m! No reason they could not have included it.
Extremely thorough and well presented! 73 VE3NAP
