HOMEMADE FUEL TANKS are the BEST! BUDGET VN Commodore fuel tank to support 500hp? RB30 TURBO VN Ep.5

- I'm too cheap to spend lots of money on a fuel system for the RB30 VN, so I'm modifying the standard Commodore fuel tank to be able to use a couple of old Bosch 044 pumps that were once in the corolla. Twin 044 fuel pumps should easily be good enough for 500HP! Is it more hassle than its worth? Probably but I'm keen to make it regardless.
I'm bringing this forgotten BT1 VN commodore back to life in the best way possible. Its getting a spicy engine to suit the rear end. Tubbed, shortened diff, 325 tyre, coil overs, 4 link. Is it over kill? Absolutely - for now anyway. Make sure you hit the subscribe button to stay up to date! I bought this absolute gem (may or may not be a piece of crap) BT1 VN Commodore. It was abandoned and left for dead, will it ever run again? Join me on the journey to bring it back to life and restore it back to a running driving road car. With a hint of race car thrown in the mix.

Silver tank and exposed fuel system looks cool, got the old school pro street look.
Awesome work mate. I'm unsure about the fuel tank sump and pumps. Maybe make things sit higher.
Hey mate loving the build so far, dont forget to rubber insulate the fuel tank straps. Keep up the good shit 👍🤙🍻
For its final figment for sure 👌👌
Loving this build bro
Awesome build. Definatly keep the silver tank
Please pull it out and raise the pumps and the sump. I love your work but I have had many low commodores with the long range tank. It will scrape on everything and will be a nightmare to get on and off a trailer.
I’ll be raising the tank but not the pumps, they will be fine
I was actually wondering how well the long range tanks cleared, never owned a car with on in it before so was thinking if I can get this add on to sit at the same height as a long range it would be ok. Might just need a skid plate on it 🤣
Been loving the build dude!!!
Keep up the good work!!!
That roll of wire in your mig must have cost a small fortune? 309 wire isn’t cheap. Loving the content. Planning on building one myself!👌
Temu mate
When I've worked on Commodores i always thought it was stupid how the sender is on the side with that meak gasket holding the fuel in. Top entry is the best like Subaru have. That way less chance of leaks.
It will probably rust immediately without tank sealer treatment. I learnt the hard way.
I think I have found 1 that is E85 friendly, a lot of them say ethanol safe but only to E10
Paint it black for sure, enjoy the fab work man, would've liked to see it on the ground. It looks pretty low hanging ha ha. Cheers
I’ll add an update in one of the next videos, I’m raising the tank about 40mm so should be sufficient clearance
@@klingbergmotorsport yeah sweet. Cheers
Could you feed the lines through the that gap left by that strap? So they are up and out of the way
Na, only because the pumps won’t draw through that unfortunately.
@@klingbergmotorsport Ah bugger!
Sorry mate luv the build but I’ve just redone my fuel system for the 3rd time and I can tell you that’s not gunna work. Pumps are to high ! Love the concept thou !
Cheers. Though that might have been the case, that’s why I talked about raising to bottom of the tank about 40mm. Although I was thinking the fuel pumps would pump fine until the fuel level would get to fuel pump level as the head pressure in the tank would push it enough as long as the tank vent is sufficient.
