Great tour of the Palm Springs outdoor statues Steve!! So much art there to appreciate. Thanks for taking us with you! 😊 And Hi to Jim~ Joan
Thanks for coming along Joan. 😎👍
I really like the videos of Palm Springs, Steve. The statues are great and I always love the views. Love looking at the mountains as I will never get to visit. I'm an armchair traveler. Thanks Steve, good work!
Glad you enjoyed it Mary! And as an armchair traveler you get to travel first class in the comfort of your own home. 😆👍
👍 🙂👋👣. Enjoyed seeing the statues. Some did look life like. 😊 We are watching and enjoying your Palms Springs videos. Vee and andrew ✌️🕯️💕🌻🦋✨🙂👋👣.
Thanks so much Ver and Andrew! 😎👍
Thanks for the tour
Thanks for watching Carol! 😎👍
Excellent Steve history lesson
Thanks Alex 😎👍
What a fun video. Thanks for taking us along. Cant wait till Palm Springs puts up a statue of you and Jim. Palm Springs best you tube ambasadors.
Lol i’m sure they would put it in an alleyway somewhere or better yet the cemetery. 😄👍
Palm springs seems to be very green and lush it looks lovely and it's amazing that you can hear the birds singing. The police memorials are very moving. Thanks Steve
Hi Angela, yes, for a desert it is very green here! 😎👍
Thank you for the tour.
Thanks for watching Darlene 👍
As always, it is a beautiful video that makes my Lunch Time more pleasant. We need more videos like yours to cheer people up during these depressing times.
Thanks L, glad you liked it. 😎👍
Palm springs needs a giant dragon statue 😅
Pretty cool vlog. Lots of statues I wasn't aware of! I like the dark blue hue on some. My favorite was the barcode matrix babies
That would be cool! And I agree, those babies definitely got your attention lol! 😳😆👍
wonderful. the statue of Isobel is STUNNING.
I know, right? I love how it almost becomes invisible as you walk around it! 😄👍
Steve, you made so many solid new friends, today! Congratulations! Now I'm wondering how many statues we all ignore in our own hometowns. Pretty sure I have a contender about half a mile away - a 20-ft high blackbird, dressed in jogging shorts...
Omg Debi that sounds like a really fun one. I’ll have to Google it! 😳😆👍
Challenge accepted. Next time I am in Palm Springs I plan to try and find/visit all 14 statues in this video. Thanks Steve! ❤️ Paul
Awesome! 😎👍
A great place to live Thank u Steve and Jim!
It sure is Ellen! 😎👍
The 2nd statue felt very comfortable with me. The names on the bricks were so special. Just moved me to see it all.
I agree Tawanda, it is a very moving display! 💙👍
Very cool video! Thanks for sharing your adventure! 🌞🌴
Thanks for watching Linda. Glad you liked it. 😎👍
Thanks for sharing the statues. 👌✌️👍
Thanks for watching Virginia. 😎👍
I really enjoyed your tour. Thanks for taking us along ❤
Glad you enjoyed Monika! 😎👍
I’ve always wanted to visit Palm Springs. You give great ideas of places to see and eat. Thank you.
It is SO much fun.
Thanks Diane, I hope you get to visit one day. 😎👍
November the 17th 2009 the statue was put up you take care of Steve and God bless you and Jim
Thanks Sherron and you too! 😎👍
Hi Steve...nice vlog....a different and interesting side of Palm Springs...love the statues ... Gene Autry was cool....soldiers were cool...the second one from the left ..I think he winked at me. ...and as always the mountain scenery is beautiful .....take care ..... Deborah 🇨🇦
Oh, I thought he was winking at me lol! 😆👍
I’m a true Californian, born and raised in Southern California, but I have never been to Palm Springs!!
One of these days I’d love to visit your city!!
Thanks for sharing Steve❤
Oh, you definitely should Sandy! 😎👍
@@steveinpalmspringsca it’s on my bucket list now😀
I used to love to sit near Isabelle, behind Starbucks. Just very quiet and relaxing. I know it’s not exactly Palm Springs, but those dinosaurs on the right of Highway 10 before the casino , I can’t recall the names, but I remember going there as a child on vacation over 50 years ago. Amazing how certain things stay in your memory, especially as a kid. Thanks for always doing a great job of representing PS.
Keith
Thanks for sharing Keith. That is a very peaceful spot. As for the Cabazon dinosaurs, I’ve loved them since I was a kid too. I shared a video of them on this channel a couple of years ago. They never get old lol! 😆👍
What a nice tour of these statues. They are so inspirational. Thank you. 😊
Glad you like them Renee! 😎👍
wow! So nice to see these statues!!
A lot of Big Cities have had their statues stolen and ripped down for their Bronze!!
Yikes, how sad. 😲
I remember the bronze statue of Lucile Ball on I think it was Main St??? Art is so kool... Steve you should do a video of the Gene Autry Museum in LA !
I’ve driven by his museum in LA on my way to Forest lawn cemetery which is right next door. I spend all my time at the cemetery though I never have enough time left over to visit his museum lol! 😆
Thanks for taking us with you on your scavenger hunt. Those are some great statues.
Thanks for coming along Carolyn! 😎👍
Oh my gosh, that was informative and a lot of fun! I am so impressed by how well the statues were done along with how well they are maintained. You never see any dirty or uncapped statues I would also like to commend you on the choice of music you play with your videos! When you were showing the statue of the fallen police officers along with the music tears were streaming down my face I could feel the emotion and intensity of what the statue was meant to convey. Thank you for filming your you with the statues as it really does help me get perspective on size as always, hello and love to both you and Jim!!
Hi Connie, i’m impressed with how well they are kept up too! I’m glad you like the video. And I agree, the police memorial statue was very moving. Thanks 😎👍
That was fun. Thank you for sharing all this beautiful artwork with us. Palm Springs is really convincing me more to pay a visit there maybe live. 😂
I hope you get to visit in person one day Jody. 😎👍
Thank you Steve for an informative statue walk! My favs are the Agua caliente women. Loved the water fountain by Sonny bono.
Glad you enjoyed it Jennifer and thanks for sharing your favorites. It’s fun to find out which ones like the best. 😎👍
Yes what a great idea to see statues and miss Monroe yes she is a big statue. And we should not look under her dress! Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching Sally. 😎👍
Great video Steve! Here’s a cheap fix for wind while you’re recording. I believe you said you’re using your cellphone.
•Get one of the old school pink foam hair rollers from a friend. They’ve been made for decades so a friend usually has a whole container/bag of them and can spare one for you, or you can get a pack at the dollar store.
•Separate the plastic clip holder from the foam roller. It just slips out. The foam will look like a mini pool noodle.
•Slice down along the length of the hole of the foam roller.
•Slip the foam roller over the microphone end of your cellphone.
You now have an easy fix windscreen!!
Try a test recording with & without the roller and it should make quite a difference on windy days. Hope I explained it well enough and hope it helps.
That is an awesome hack HWW! Thanks for sharing that with us. I will try it. I have a plug-in microphone for my iPhone and the microphone as well those big fuzzy wind reducers, but I can’t hold onto the phone when it’s plugged in unless I have the phone attached to a selfie stick. That then becomes a thing. I prefer to just hold the phone with your way I could probably do that without having the phone attached to a selfie stick. Thanks 😄👍
You have some beautiful statues there Steve ! Fun video thank you for showing us ❤
Glad you enjoyed Jackie! 😎👍
Just another entertainment work of art...there should be a sculpture of YOU in Palm Springs!
Lol that would scare everyone away William! 😳😆👍
@@steveinpalmspringsca Oh now...that would be a bigger draw than Sonny Bono!...at least for me!
Hello ❤❤❤😮😮😮😊😊😊 Great job Steve
Glad you enjoyed it Wanda! 😎👍
Other than Marilyn that people want a picture with, most large Outdoor Art and Sculpture really is meant to be viewed from a distance and in its relationship to what's around it according to many artist interviews. (I wish the City would put its plaques and markers for artwork in the medians on the sidewalks for people's safety and to see the sculpture as it is meant.)
Sonny and Lucy and others lifesize pieces are great surprise finds just walking around downtown. I don't think you missed any of the City's sculpture finds on this fun scavenger hunt, Steve.
Steve Pougnet was Mayor 2007-2015, if that helps Gene Autry dating.
The see-through sculpture between the Rowan Hotel and il Corso Italian restaurant is by artist Julian Voss. (There are other artists who also use the stacked plate technique.)
Thanks Robert, and I agree with you. If the plaques were put on the sidewalks then pedestrians wouldn’t be tempted to walk into the median areas to get information about the statues. I was surprised that the Gene Autry statue doesn’t have a walkway leading up to it. It’s a huge space there and there could easily be multiple walkways leading to the statue and maybe even a bench or two and some umbrellas for shade. With the restaurants next-door people could eat there and watch the planes landing. It’s pretty noisy, but it could still be a nice spot to hang out for a short time. Palm Springs is very progressive in so many ways, but not always so much when it comes to pedestrians and walking in the city. Glad I didn’t miss any. 😎👍
Good video thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it Wil!
You have so many cool statues there. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching Lam! 😎👍
I'm actually still watching this video as I'm typing 😁 Seeing the Tuskegee Airman Statues in Palm Springs, CA was like, oh wow !! We live not too far from Tuskegee, AL and this was just too cool to see. Thank you for taking us on this tour and showing all of the statues.
Glad you enjoyed it TC! 👍
YaaaaY! I’ve so been waiting for this. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
So glad you liked it Diane. Did you suggest it? Oh no, I forget to mention you? 🙃
@@steveinpalmspringsca oh no, don’t you remember? You sort of came up with it, I just said I’d love to see it. 🥰
I didn't realize how busy Palm Springs is. I've learned a lot looking at all the statues you've shown us. Is there a reason why Sonny Bono's name has been rubbed off? Or is just from so many people touching it? Thank you for sharing all these statues with us. You and Jim Stay safe and take care.
Hi Maria, yes it’s just from tourists stopping by and rubbing it for good luck I think. 😎👍
Thanks for the tour. I have a picture of the Marilyn one and the sitting one ( Isobell?) we stayed i the hotel next to the art museum.
Which hotel, the Kimpton? Was it a good day? Or was it the one across the street or the Hilton? All three are in great locations. Thanks for sharing with us Tartan! 😎👍
@@steveinpalmspringsca The Kimpton. It was a nice hotel. Stayed there for a couple of night while visiting friends a few years ago. Perfect location to go walking around and lots of art to view. We didn’t get a chance to visit the actual museum though as it was closed one of the days we were there.
Stunning art work! Thank you for sharing😎
Thank you for watching Pam. 😎👍
Thank you for another great video, filled with interesting statues!
Thanks Sharon. Glad you liked it! 😎👍
How cool are those statues!!!👍👍👍
I know, right? 😎👍
I saw my parents' brick in the footage from the PS Air Museum Walk of Honor! I got them that brick because they loved the desert so much and summered there in the later years of my Mom's life. A very special place.
Ah, that is awesome Craig. What a small world! thanks for sharing that with us. 💙👍
That was so fun Steve thank you.. Loved it 😊
So glad to hear that Colleen! 😎👍
Glad you enjoyed it Colleen! 😎👍
That was fun. Those statues are so well crafted.
Glad you liked it Europa! 👍
Thank you for the shout out but I do need to point out that you have been slacking with pink flamingo sightings as of late 🤣
Lol I keep looking but I think they may have all flown to Florida! 😆🦩🦩🦩
I enjoyed your street art tour.
Thanks Alich. Glad you enjoyed it! 😎👍
Great idea. Wichita has quite a few also and would make a great walking tour. Kansas City has one for all of the fountains for which they are famous.
Thanks for sharing with us John. Nice to know that other cities do this too! I love fountains too. Unfortunately we don’t have as many of those here. 😎👍
Thanks Steve awesome video as always. You guys watch hockey. My favourite team the Edmonton oilers are playing the LAKings
Thanks Leeann, Jim used to have season tickets to the Mighty Ducks, years ago when we lived in orange county. Good luck to your team! 😄👍
Looks like a lot more art and history in Palm Springs then I realized
Yes, and these are just the statues of people. There are also lots of sculptures and murals everywhere. 😄👍
Steve,
Your videography was spectacular as usual and I love the music bed. This video was entertaining and educational. Thanks for bringing it to us.
How's your vision since the cataract surgery? Thanks for your hard work and dedication to making your fantastic content
Thanks Scott, that’s nice of you to say. And The surgery was a success. I’m so glad I did it. Unfortunately my eyes still get pretty red because of the glaucoma eyedrops I take at night and also because it’s spring and the pollen in the air is so thick you can cut it with a knife! 😳😆👍
@@steveinpalmspringsca
I use glaucoma drops at night as well. But the pollen here in central Ohio is really thick as well. You just had one eye done, correct?
How beautiful 😍
great video keep up the great work
Thanks, will do! 😎👍
This was great, and so much easier than driving around & getting out of the car! Have you been inside the new Agua Caliente Museum and Cultural Center downtown yet? And the Spa is A-MA-ZING.
Hi Catherine, I haven’t been to the spa, but I did visit the Agua Caliente Museum with my grandson Mason and his boyfriend. I posted a video about it a few months ago. Glad to hear the smile was great. 😄👍
Felipe Casteneda is a Mexican sculptor;; he had an exhibit at the B Lewin Gallery of Palm Springs in 1994, the year after this "Standing Woman" sculpture was donated to the Public Arts Commission. Interesting coincidence. (This is my third comment; apparently, I really enjoyed this video. 😎)
Thanks for the update Debi, I appreciate that! 😎👍
1st Good Morning Steve ...... :) xo Hello to Jim too
dampish and cool in S.NJ-Philly this am
Good morning Rex! 😎👋
Better than dampish and warm right lol? 😆
I really enjoyed this video. The Modern and historical statues. Did you have one that perked your interest in why was it made and the location it was then put in. No,10 was interesting to me the way the statue would disappear then appear I wonder what symbolism its creator was igniting for the viewer to see. Thankyou it was lovely to see especially from chilly England x
Hi, thanks for watching that I’m glad you enjoyed it. I really like the disappearing statue too, but my favorite is still the forever Maryland statue. It’s so massive and so dramatic and so beautifully done. 😄👍
Fun great video Steve ! Have basic cable with rent have my DVR internet phone with Spectrum thinking of getting RUKU TV hopefully get Gordon or someone to hook it up !
👍
Thank you Steve for a lovely tour of the bronzes of downtown Palm Springs. I especially liked the Indigenous American statues, Gene Autry, and the Tuskegee Airmen. Very historic and honoring special people. I would think you are not allowed to touch these statues, but I was wondering could you burn yourself by touching one in the middle of a 120° summer day? That would be incredibly hot! 🥵😡🤬 Ouch!
Glad you enjoyed it Janet and very good point. In our summer here you can get burn touching lots of things. Even stores here usually put some kind of cloth around door handles that have to be opened up to prevent burns. Even steering wheels can get unbelievably hot. 😳😲🙃👍
At the airport there's a bust of Sonny Bono at the entrance to the Sonny Bono concourse. I remember it being stolen several years ago. It was later recovered. Not sure if they ever figured out who the thief was. Also at the airport is a bust of JFK. Was moved over to the airport from City Hall. Not sure why it was moved to the airport. Both busts are on the secure side of the airport. (before retiring I used to work at the airport)
Thanks for sharing that with us Allen, I haven’t seen either of those. 😎👍
I need to see what, if anything we have around here. Maybe make a video myself for once lol
I hope you do d! If so, let us know so we can all watch. 😄👍
Is that statue that's made of the layers by the same guy that's on IG? I've seen several of them by him of animals.
What is IG?
You have a superb eye😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
Thanks Larry 😄👍
Who doesn't love Marilyn? There will always be someone somewhere with a bug up their butt about something.
That’s for sure Valerie. And this very angry group of Karens has a very big one of theirs lol! 😳😆 I don’t think they are going to stop until they run Maryland out of town! 😩
you cant be serious?? Works calling you bro:)
?
I totally disagree because when you comes to that when they go to taking down our statues of honoring people the next thing will be something else that is totally bigger than that where will it stop first the statues and then Lord knows what else
I know what you mean Sherron, it gets a little ridiculous. The only time I agree with removing a statue is if it represents bigotry and hate. It gets complicated though because everyone has different ideas about what is appropriate and what’s not. I just can’t imagine how anyone could think there is anything at all wrong with the Marilyn Monroe statue. 🤪
Okay let me get this right they freaked out over a statue of Marilyn Monroe but they don't have a problem with the Statue of David's or all the nude statues and paintings that are in museums I just do not get some people's mentality Lord child that just need to sit down
Hi Debbi, that was my exact first thought too!! It’s sad, but this angry group of Karens seems to have a lot of money for lawsuits and is determined to run Marilyn out of town! 😲😩🥲
@@steveinpalmspringsca well if they got all that money they need to put it to good use instead of whining about things I'm sure there's a homeless shelter there's you know animal shelters there's all kinds of stuff that they could put all this bottled up energy towards. It's a piece of art people consider the movie A classic I don't know what their belly aching about except they ain't got nothing better to do with their time they're probably the one that hacks people on CZcams and Facebook
