Palm Springs Cult Film Actor & Director Murdered & Buried Under His Hot Tub!

- In the summer of 1995, horror, cult and B-film actor and director Al Adamson was murdered in Indio, California which is located in the Palm Springs desert area. His killer then buried his body in a whole where his hot tub used to sit.
Today, I went in search of the Avenue 48, Indio home where he was killed. I also visit the Harold Lloyd estate in Palm Springs, where one of Adamson's movies was filmed and I stopped by his former Palm Springs hotel. Many of the actors who appeared in his films stayed at his hotel, while filming.
When he owned it, the 1967 midcentury modern designed landmark hotel was called the Casa Blanca Motor Lodge. Today, it's called the Musicland Hotel.

I looked him up and he is in California Health Care Facility in Stockton, and was denied parole in 2016 and 2021 and comes up for it again in 2024. H e is 72 yrs old now..
I'm surprised he wasn't released after 5 years. California's system is broken.
If I were Governor, I would overrule any grant of parole in this case. ⚖️👎
You are one of the best storytellers on CZcams and that’s an understatement✍️🎬😀
@billl1127 Please just shut the hell up. California will send you to prison quicker than any place in the us. If you're Mexican, you get taken care of. If your white or black, your ass is going to jail.
As a horror buff I know the movies, the director and the murder. Thnx for doing this one, Steve ❤
Glad to hear that you are familiar with him and his movies Frederick! 😎👍
Your videos about historical events in the Palm Springs area are excellent! I really enjoyed this one.
Thanks CD! Glad you like them! 😎👍
How fascinating...man, your content is better than HBO!
Lol thanks William 😄👍
off-topic you look great and refreshed today.
Thanks Melissa 😎👍
I noticed too... Looking great! ☮️✌️☮️
I can’t get enough of your videos in Palm Springs! Thank you so much. I look forward to more😊😊
Love that area! Good job with this story Steve. I often watch those low budget horror movies especially around Halloween.Never knew of his name. The murder so sad. Good day to you! 👍😌🎥
Thanks Linda and you too! 😎👍
I am really enjoying your "tourist" videos, getting to see the historical buildings, but even more I love the in-depth stories that you bring to what we're viewing. I'd much rather get to know Palm Springs and her history like this, just one or two locations with the historical stories to go along with it. I like hearing about all the old movie stars, and learning about the work they did. You are a good story teller, and I can't wait for the next one!!
Hello Steve, I'm relieved to hear that you and the others are safe. They mentioned that the weather in California was unpredictable.
Thanks Ms H, we’ve had a lot more rain than usual and it’s really been cold. Other than that it’s pretty nice! 😎👍
At present, he is imprisoned in Stockton at the California Health Care Facility at 72 years old.
Despite the fact that he became equipped for parole in mid 2016, the board declined him for quite a long time, and a similar judgment was rehashed on June 3, 2021. Thus, Fred will presently confront a parole hearing in June 2024.
Thanks for the update Red!
Hi Steve . This was a very interesting story. I never heard of him , but he sounds like a character. How awful to die that way , but glad he was found. The contractor got off easy , he is still living at least. Thanks for your great vlogs. Take care . Deborah 🇨🇦
I agree Deborah. He got off way too easy! 🙁
Thanks, Steve! Just wanted to chime in and say that I really appreciate it when you show us the locations, even if the building has been demolished! Still sheds a lot of light on everything.😊
Thanks Lacey. Glad you enjoyed it! 😎👍
Really great narration of one of those rarely recalled Palm Springs' history.
Thanks Judd 👍
I'm loving you doing these vlogs! Keep it up! Have a great weekend ❤
Thank you Anne!
I thoroughly enjoyed this, Steve! Thank you for bringing this story to light. I am riveted and loving your stories ❤
Thank you Denise I’m happy to hear that! 😎👍
Hi Steve, love the history about Palm Springs, as not to many appreciate or even know about it. Keep up he great work. Keith
Thanks Keith. Glad you enjoyed it! 😎👍

Thanks Maryellen!
Thank you Steve for sharing this story with us, this was the first I've heard about this.
Glad you liked it Syreeta!
Steve, thanks for yet another great video of a subject that I’d not heard about before now. With that said it was quite interesting and as well so sad.
Glad you enjoyed it Country boy! 😎👍
I love B movies and Al Adamson is my favorite B director, I wish his life didn’t have such a lurid ending, but thanks for giving him a shout out.
Glad to hear that you were a fan of his! 👍
Hi Steve!!! As always, Thank You for sharing your excellent video!!!!
Thank you for watching 😎👍
Thank you for the amazing story, Steve! ❤
Thanks Tommy 👍
Great video Steve! I enjoyed learning about Al Adamson
Thanks Ashley. Glad you enjoyed it! 😎👍
Very interesting. Thank you for sharing this with us all. You and Jim take care.
Thanks, you too Maria!
👏Thanks Steve, for your excellent presentation! I've always been very fond of Palm Springs & you do a superior job covering it' beauty & amazing history. Ur work always presents as such a labor of love, i feel your devotion. Tkx for sharing!👍
Thank you Marsh 😎👍
Watching this I realized I watched an Al Adamson movie Satan's Sadists. One of the actors was wearing a Canyon Lake hat. I also realized I had watched a true crime episode about his murder but didn't realize it was the director of that movie.
👍
Thank you for telling this story
Thanks for watching Beth!
Thank you Steve 🥰
Love tagging along Steve 👌🏻
Love having you tag along RB! :-)
How sad. How can people do this? You have such interesting videos. Thank you for telling the story.
Thank you Renee. 😎👍
Hi, Steve. I was in a couple of Al Adamson’s films. One was Dracula vs Frankenstein. It may not have been a top drawer classic but, it was fun to shoot.
Regina was a very charming lady not at all like to women she portrayed.
And when she wasn’t in a scene she was schlepping the equipment like one of the crew. It was so sad that she passed at such a young age.
I believe Pete Engel and Russ Tamlyn are the only actors from the Adamson stable who are still alive. Except for me , of course.😊
Bill
Hi Bill, that's awesome. Thank you for sharing your memories with us. So nice to hear a little bit about what went on behind the scenes. His death must have been extra sad and shocking to hear about. :-(
Fascinating story! Look forward to your walking tour video :)
Thanks April 😎👍
Thanks Steve for the tour
Thanks for coming along Carol! 😎👍
Never heard of him but really interesting story. Thanks fir sharing Steve. Love stuff like this
Thanks Tigger. Glad you enjoyed it! 😎👍
Even though the house is no longer there the story was fascinating. Your storytelling he is also spot on. I certainly remember most of the names that you mentioned. Great job
Thank you Ronald!
Thanks again for sharing Steve, too bad you don't have a drone 😊
Hi John, I wish I did. Unfortunately in this case I probably still wouldn’t have used it. It would just seem like a major invasion of privacy for the people who live there now.
I like your videos better than any other of people that do grave tours . You treat the people that died with such respect . Just don’t do mine anytime soon . Keep up the excellent work .
Thanks BJ, and I know what you mean lol! 😊👍
Steve.... again you amaze us with a very interesting story. You just seem to find the most bizarre stories. Thank you for your effort.
Thank you Norma! Sadly there are way too many of them out there to tell! 😲
Gosh I loved those old drive-in movies. We hardly ever got to go since I grew up back east, and you could only go in the summertime. By the time I moved to California, drive-ins had gone the way of the dodo, ha ha. Great story, love when you post. 🙏🏻💕
Thanks Sandi, I was lucky to grow up in Southern California where we could go to the drive-in year around. Glad you at least got to experience it. It was definitely sad to see them all disappear! 🥲
Thank you, Steve!❤ I have never heard of him or his movies. So sad. It sounds like he was too trusting.
Good point Palma. Sadly, these days trusting other people can get you in a lot of trouble. 😩
Thank you Steve for this amazing story😊❤ Stay safe out there.
Thank you Monika! 😎👍
@@steveinpalmspringsca you're welcome 🙂
Thanks for this video. Your eyes are looking much better.
Thanks Deborah. I stopped using one of the prescription eyedrops and it really has helped a lot! 😄👍
I am enjoying your true crime stories in palm springs so much, very interesting.
Thanks Jose, I’m happy to hear that! 😎👍
Just when you time you have heard all the stories along comes another one! Thanks for sharing this with us. Next time I drive past the Musicland Hotel I will certainly look at it very differently now. Indio has always meant to me to be a place to stop to buy dates at Shields Date Farm. ❤ Paul
Hi Paul, yes the desert is so full of hidden in plain sight stories of triumph and tragedy. I had my first date shake at shields about 60 years ago lol! 😄👍
@@steveinpalmspringsca Love me some PS history. If all goes well I will be able to visit again for Modernism Week 2024 in a few weeks! 🎉
Great video Steve the sky is always so blue here in Gettysburg nothing but clouds ❤❤ 2 hearts from my wife and me
Thanks Alex. We are very lucky to have blue skies nearly every day of the year! Hopefully your gray skies will clear up soon. 😎👍
Good video. I'm a big horror fan so I've seen a number of his movies.
Glad to hear that you know his films Poindexter! 😎👍
What an interesting story. I never knew Colonel Sanders was in the movies. You learn something new each day. Thank you for sharing this with us.. 😊
I know right? That was a surprised to me too lol! 😎👍
Als movies were never dull!!!!!!!!!
Great tour. I've never visited Palm Springs. Hope to one day
You know so much more than me Steve. You have such an encyclopedic knowledge of Hollywood and the other hot spot - Palm Springs! I did not know this gentleman but a lot of unsettling things happened around that area that I am only learning about. I don't mean specifically Palm Springs but where the rich and famous and people with egos take advantage of one another. Very sad to say the least. 🙏♥️🙏
Hi Janet, I agree with you. It seems like things like this happen a lot more in Palm Springs and LA and in Hollywood than in other places. 😲
Love those low budget class B horror movies. 2 of my favorites are "House on Haunted Hill", and "The Day the Earth Stood Still".
Both classics! 😲😳😄👍
One of my favorite b movie directors - have all his films - did you read the book about him - love your videos buddy - keep up the good job.
No, I didn’t know there was a book. That’s awesome to hear that you are a fan of his films Buckaroo!😄👍
Keep up the great work buddy
Wow, 1st heard this & so interesting..
Your eyes look so good today Steve, I hope you’re feeling as good as your eyes look today! Keep these interesting memories coming please.
Thanks Thomas, I stopped taking one of the prescription eyedrops and that has helped quite a bit. 😄👍
I agree. Steve’s eyes look way better. I bet they feel better now too.
I noticed that you shaved. Must be for the doctors appointment 🤣. I had never heard of this. I was put off horror movies after watching my first zombie movie. Another fascinating story, well told, with lots of twist and turns.
Lol I try to shave at least once a week now that I’m retired! 😆 and yes it’s usually on special occasions like going to the doctors, ha ha! When we were growing up I kind of liked the Alfred Hitchcock type of scary movies, but then they got way too graphic and gruesome over the years for me. 😳 I saw the Exorcist in theaters about 50 years ago and I think that was probably my last scary movie!! 😲
Strange that his death sounds like a plot from one of his movies
Rest in peace Al
I know, right? 😲
Wow!!!! I didn't know about this man or his movies but what a gruesome murder!
thx for video
Thanks for watching Mark 😎👍
What I was thinking about during today's episode was networking. It is important to have people in your life that will look out for you; family, friends, etc.
So true Edna. If it weren’t for his friend and his brother this crime probably would’ve never been solved!
He looks so familiar...but I don't remember hearing about his demise. 🌹
I know, he looked familiar to me too!
The address you were thinking was was replaced with a house in 2004.
the side of the street you were parked in front of the subdivision started in 1991.
Thanks James 👍
What a convoluted story! I'm not a big fan of the type of movies that Al Adamson made, but I find it ironic that he met his fate in much the same way as a character in one of his films. Have you ever driven by a fatal car crash or a horrible house fire? You don't want to look, but you can't help yourself. That's how I felt as I watched the video. Fascinating stuff--great content. Oh, and (off topic) your eyes are looking better. Best wishes with your coming cataract procedure!
I felt the same as you do you Dee while I was filming this. I stopped taking one of my prescription eyedrops in my eyes to seem to be A lot less red and painful. Thanks 😎👍
I'm so sorry to hear about AL Adamson. No he wasn't the biggest director in town, But he left a marked when it comes to Horror Films. Again thank you, Steve about the story. Rip Mr. Al.
Thanks Jill 😎👍
Still in jail.
So, today, at the age of 72, he is detained at the California Health Care Facility in Stockton. He became eligible for parole in early 2016 but was denied it by the board for three years, and this exact verdict was reissued on June 3, 2021. Thus, Fred will now face a parole suitability hearing in June 2024.
Thanks for the update Phil!
Let's hop he stays there. @@steveinpalmspringsca
There is such beautiful scenery behind homes in California 🌲🌴🌳⛰️
I agree Gena. 😎👍
......and from Indio you can get to lovely Bombay Beach and Slab City!
And don’t forget the Coachella music festival which is just a couple of miles away. 😎👍
Luckily I assume the Music festival is held during parts of the year when there are no huge fish kills in the Salton Sea.
A good thing as the stench can be noticed all the up to Riverside (maybe even out to Blythe) and beyond.
Back when Sonny Bono was Mayor of Palm Springs, efforts were afoot to clean up the Salton Sea, but I don't think any of the efforts have ever been successful.@@steveinpalmspringsca
Remember to not confront thiefs all alone. Very sad story specially as sounds like he was a nice and helpful man.
Good advice! 👍
love your videos I believe the film was "hell's bloody devils". Sanders appeared in it, along with KFC chicken!!!
Thanks Phineas. I think I showed that in the video. Maybe you didn’t get that far. 😄👍
@@steveinpalmspringsca might have been when I had to separate the cats from a major fight. I will go back to the video and watch again.
I never watched his movies. Such a sad story.
Did he ever direct Bela Lugosi that's my favorite actor so did he direct him
I’m not sure, but I wouldn’t be surprised!
I do not remember this actor. I never liked gruesome movies when I was young!!! It is so sad how he passed away!
Fave Al movie is Dracula Vs Frankenstein, Satan’s Sadists is also one of his best known flicks. Also like Blood of Ghastly Horror, Sunset Cove, Carnival Magic is nuts, Death Dimension, Blood of Dracula’s Castle, a lot of crazy B movie fun.
Thanks for sharing K 👍
Kernal Sanders was in GORDON LEWIS ROCK FILL. THE BLAST OFF GIRL S. 1967
MY FAVORITE CITY
😎👍
Indio has lots of gated communities and the best electrical rates in the valley. That Coachella cemetery is a very pretty lush cemetery.
I hope you haven’t touched any of them! 😳
@@steveinpalmspringsca I was looking up a singer song writer , who grew up in the area , I can't think of his name at the moment, but he had a popular song around 1978, and he's buried there , when I read he had died I looked up his find a grave info
It came to me, Alan O'Day, Undercover Angel, he also write other songs sung by various singers
Generally, when you’re sentenced for a crime, you receive credit for time served. In this case, the perpetrator would receive credit for the 3 years he spent in jail prior to trial, thereby reducing his sentence from 25 to life to approximately 22 to life. Credit is given in days, not years.
We’ve had terrible rain and flooding here in Texas. The weather is crazy all over right now.
Yikes, be safe tartan and stay home if you can. 👍
My favorite movie of his is Dracula Vs Frankenstein. My friend met him at a convention 3 months (?) before his murder that same year.
Wow! Thanks for sharing this with us Jack!

Yvonne De Carlo played Lily Munster.
Theres box set on AL ADAMSON MOVIES BUT ONLY BLUE RAY. NOT DVD. SO SAD HIM AND HI S WIFE GONE. ❤
In 1989 and 1991 we stayed at Al Adamson's lodge in Torrey, UT outside of Capitol Reef NP. It was called the Rim Rock Inn.
His wife was the waitress and would serve coffee for breakfast. She was still very beautiful.
There were posters on the walls of all of his films which included his wife.
They had big plans for the property but in 1991 it looked to be in disrepair.
When I went back there in 2006 I asked the owner of the motel where I was staying about Al and it seems he was reluctant too say much and asked me how I knew about the story of his demise, which I learned of in a documentary.,
Thanks for sharing this with us Bil
I would enjoy an in-depth look at the life and eventual murder of former Mousketeer Dennis Day. He did not live/die in Palm Springs, but he was LBGTQIA+, and married to his partner for many years. I believe you have touched on this case before - but it the murder is fairly recent, and there could be some new developments since that video. Plus, his life after acting (Renaissance Faire era) is fascinating.
Hi Deb, thanks for mentioning him. I did do a video about his death on my other channel. But I am working on another video about him for this channel. Coming soon! 😎👍
I don't understand the court system. I remember him and saw some films. So sad how he died. Here Al was killed by a guy who was breaking the law and stealing from him so ironic. He was not a bad filmmaker. I am sorry but don't know about his house. Yes i enjoy your channels.
Thank you Sally 😎👍
Interesting🤔
Was Bob Hope's big estate sold yet, and how much? It was on the market for some time, and price reduced.
Good question Spencer. I didn’t even know it was for sale. You could probably find the last sale price on Zillow.
🤗🤗❤️
There were many older A listers in his movies. John Carradine, Russ Tamblyn, Scott Brady, Jim Davis and others. John Carradine was the king of B movies
👍
I need that hat❤
😄👍
I looked it up and Fulford is still incarcerated at the RJ Donovan Prison in San Diego at age 74. He first became eligible for parole in 2015 after 20 years due to "good behavior" and being an older inmate under more recent state parole laws. He has had three parole hearings since with the most recent being in February of last year where he was denied for three years however he currently has an application pending that may move his next hearing up to 18 months since he is allowed to petition to advance after one year so we should know within the next few weeks.
Thanks for investigating that Alex! That’s good to know and I appreciate that. Fingers crossed that they don’t let him out. 🤞
I'll be honest, the first street you showed in the Movie Colony looked like an alleyway. Very uninviting and quite frankly, ugly. Too bad since so much wealth resides there. I get it, they want privacy...it's still ugly.
What happened to the Death Penalty actually being carried out?
I don’t think California allows the death penalty anymore.
💯👍😊
I remember seeing "b" movie TROG and I guess its a cult classic and what A list Actor was featured non other that Joan Crawford not her best work but probably the first movie I ever saw her in I have yet to see any complete movies she was in back in her prime. FYI Property records of that time could revel exact location of the home. and is recorded in the County by street address.
Thanks for sharing that Richard 👍
I'm a fan of classic horror movies. I must admit I'm not terribly familiar with Al Adamson. I guess I'll have to change that.
Let us know what you think after you’ve seen some of his films Mr H 😎👍
