    A lot of drum lessons tend to focus on hand speed and don’t often talk enough about importance of developing fast feet. We believe that with a fast single pedal, it can really take your playing from intermediate to advanced. Chances are your hands are quicker than your feet, so use this exercise to help them catch up and improve all aspects of your playing!

    Needed this big time! Single pedal speed will impress anyone who knows anything about drums and even those who don't. When you can play faster and more controlled single pedal than some guys can double pedal...you stand out.

    • @crimsun7186
      @crimsun7186 Před 8 lety +25

      It's only impressive when you can do it in softer dynamics. Everyone can play loud.

    • @Yoyoman835
      @Yoyoman835 Před 8 lety +24

      +Crimson Sunrise That would make it more impressive! Having the speed and control single pedal is pretty impressive itself. If you've got the dynamics, and you can groove...you'll draw some eyes. Definitely.

    It’s a great exercise- I also recommend practicing a single note in place of the two notes so one note then 3 notes etc. and then going back and occasionally inserting 2 notes-- I found this was effective for building up faster and faster tempos by giving my leg more time to rest and recover.

    I agree with David Rogers And Gavin. Practice practice practice. Even one exercise! Because you build off of it. This particular single foot exercise is great because after you master it? at different tempos? It opens another door and another. Just keep opening the doors and master them. Just opens up alot of stuff you never thought you can play! Just work it!! You gotta love it you gotta live it.........

    I find dropping my heal after the 1st gives me the 2nd hit. If I don’t tense up I can make consistent ghost notes on the 2nd hit doing this too. I struggled and struggled keeping my heal up high and just using my toes. My calf would cramp, I lost consistency and dynamics too. The key is to relax and keep you heal almost touching the peddle. Lift you leg to get your heal up a little and then just drop your heal as you use the upper half of the foot to strike. The key is to not tighten your calf or foot. Just relax and don’t let the adrenaline, speed or intensity of the music get you lifting your heal high. I don’t know it’s been working for me. I used to struggle with that 2nd beat you find in zeppelins Casmir. I couldn’t figure out how to do that ghost note type beat. This technique has gotten me there. I’m definitely going to be practicing this though.

    • @goseeaboutagirl
      @goseeaboutagirl Před 5 lety

      I'd recommend a beater length that hits dead center on the head or slightly longer for good leverage and momentum. for me personally I also like a fairly loose spring tension so I train my foot and ankle properly and don't overly on a super tight spring, esp for doubles. gives you room to try out heel toe or slide. If you notice JoJo's and some other guys' springs, they're so loose the beater moves a few times back and forth if you slightly pull on the spring. Hope that helps! Pls lemme know if you have any Qs haha. Happy drumming 👍

      Spicy boi that happens to me if I get what your saying. For me bass drum playing varies. It’s the only part of the kit where I can be awesome one day and the next it’s just not happening. I’ve seen less and less of it than I used to but it still happens to me. One thing that helped me was to keep the spring tension as loose as possible, play more of the middle of the pedal and keep your heal really close to the floor and don’t lift your heal high. I don’t know if that is the right technique but it helped me

      in many ways. running (not jogging!!) builds muscle super quick, which helps with control; and it helps build speed cuz you're moving your legs as fast as you can. this is why squats actually do not help that much with building speed for drumming, because you are still just standing in place. and make sure to eat the right foods after you run! :D

    I was wondering this exercise like this :o
    -For examble if you would have this comfy to play as 60bdm.
    -you would play this in 50bdm like as a warm-up/making sure that it goes right
    -20 seconds break
    -then speeding up to 60bdm and playing it for 2 minutes where you change back and forward from kkskkks to kkkskks regularly.
    -20 seconds break
    And last 2 minutes and 20 seconds you would play one half 65bdm (1min and 10 seconds) and other half/last half in 70bdm. Apologies if theres some grammar mistakes but i was thinking does this kind of exercise plan make any sense
    thank you for this video :)
