- Playing with new paints. Abstract painting using shmears ..Jo Sonja paints
I was sent these beautiful paints by a very nice lady who wanted me to give them a try. I was so pleased when I open them and saw the colours that she sent. I couldn't wait to get started. These pants are very creamy and mixed beautifully with floetrol and a little bit of water. I flooded the canvas with black paint and did an open cup pour .. layering these colours and adding some copper and gold to the mix.
I used my large cake server to shmear very large areas and bring the paint colours up from under the black. The paint made beautiful rich patterns. It was a delight to work with..
Tilting helps to bring the colours up from the layers.. The shapes held their pattern and it has dried beautifully..

Let's keep playing with pigments and making beautiful things. If you'd like to book a private one-on-one online lesson you that can also be arranged. We work on paint consistency for the particular type of paintings that you wish to perfect. Come paint with me, it's a lot of fun. Thanks again for all your kind comments... I am humbled by your kindness and support.

I love them both
Wonderful outcomes on both of them.yes Jo Sonja has been a favourite of mine for many years. It’s great seeing them being used here for acrylic pours..
It really is lovely paint to work with. I'm very grateful to the nice friend who sent them
Love your choice of colors. Both are fantastic. :-)
Beautiful 💗 I love the mallet smash flowers 🌸

Really gorgeous Gail!
Hey, Gail. I love your mallet smash and shmear flowers! And these are particularly pretty. I've seen other people use Jo Sonja's paints but never thought about trying them until your recommendation. I've added them to my list. Thank you! Big hugs ~Cheryl
Wow, after the first one I thought nothing could beat that, but then the mallet smash, omg it was gorgeous, dying to try it, hsppybifvits even half as good as yours
Allet smashes are a lot of fun.. the trick is having your paint thick enough but it stays put after you smash it. And wiping the Mallet after each smash
Your art is always amazing. Everything I have watched you do has inspired me. On behalf of all those who watch your videos thank you for sharing with us.
Oh thank you so very much. You're very kind
Wow the paints look great! Love the depth you achieved that was fun to watch!
These are lovely. I started painting with Jo Sonja years ago and I still like them. 🌷
Those colors were sure playing hide and seek. I probably would have considered this a flop if I had done it but your magical shmears taught me all's not always lost. The colors you choose really complement each other nicely. Thanks for pulling out your mallet too. I'd forgotten what a wonderful tool it can be. Do you put anything underneath the canvas when you use it? Thank you for taking us on your test drive. I'm happy you're enjoying the Jo Sonja.🥰
OMG that's what I said too lol! If that was me doing it, I would have considered it a fail. She brought out those colors beautifully and that mallet was the shizz! It made me so happy! lol have a great day!!
@@ryzewisdom Right? I need one of those mallets right now. I think it might help me relieve a tiny bit of stress while creating something enjoyable. 🥰 Have a wonderful weekend!
@@jonaeflure I know! I was thinking the same thing! I've never used a mallet with my painting but i would prolly punch through the canvas LOL
@@ryzewisdom 🤣😂🤣 That's why I asked Gail if she puts anything under her canvas...
Sorry.. no. Nothing under the canvas.. I git my rubber mallet at dollar store.. I think you want the little bounce back when you smash it...
Love them both. The depth in the the first is wonderful, and that mallet shmash, how FUN!
The colors are great.
Thank you. They're very nice paints
They are both beautiful, to me, the first one has a cosmic feel to it.
It did look a little Galactic for a while
The pour is beautiful and I always love the mallet smashes. Those colors are just amazing together. Love the olive green - beautiful shade.
This makes more sense to me than a portrait or landscape. I love your art.
I love this piece it turned out so beautifully! The colors are so great!! 🧡💙💛
These two painting are amazing...the colors are so beautiful...I would love to try both these techniques...have great weekend take care.
Often wondered about these paints - so thank you for showing that I can use them with confidence. LOVE the first one!
Thank you so much
This is so beautiful! Those Josonja paints are very nice paints to work with. I have a few and I use them often.
This is the first time trying them and they are really lovely paints
I love the mallet smash flowers. All I ever made with a mallet was a mess! Lol.
It's all in the consistency of the paint, the layering of the colours, and you have to wipe your mail it off after every smash
I remember the first time I painted.
Beautiful Gail!🤩
Thank you so much
This is stunning. I love the colors. I adore watching people paint. I used to paint...I don't spend much time doing it anymore. So I live vicariously through other artists lol. Great use of color and the designs turned out beautifully. So well done. Thank you! Sending lots of positivity for you and your business.
Thank you so very much. Why don't you paint so much anymore? It really is good therapy
@@GailBurstynLifeInSplatters I'm just busy with my business. i gave up painting full time because i just didn't love it enough to market myself and share my art with the world. Those artists that do it, and are talented, can win, big time. I think you could, easily
Lovely I love the layers and depth
What is the pouring medium used?
Just about the watch the test 2 drive I love that
My pouring medium is simply floetrol and a bit of water if necessary to get the consistency
Would you say the fluidity of your paint used in this technique is the same as your swipes?
I should have said these techniques. Thanks.
No.. i would say they are thicker than for a swipe...
Why did you not give Mely and Ann a thank you for the puddle pour and mallet smash techniques?
I've given an Osborne full credit for the Mallet Smash in the other 10 videos or so that I've done with Mallet smashes
Love both these pieces Gail. Can I ask do you mix different consistency for different techniques?
Yes my consistency for swipes is thinner than my consistency for a circular straight pour. My consistency for Mallet smash is similar to the consistency for open cup ..perhaps a little thicker.. The consistency for Fantastical creatures is on the thick side... I think as a general rule you match your consistency to the type of poor you're doing
