Who am I?
I am the honest vocal coach! I have been teaching for 16 years and been singing since I was 17. I teach from my own studio and via Skype. I specialise in teaching children, and teenagers pop and musical theatre but I am trained in all genres of music. I have studied every voice technique there is, including Speech Level Singing, Estill, Bel Canto, Robert Lunte, London College of Music, ABRSM, Ria Keen, Kim Chandler, Stevie Van Lange and many more. Diana Ankudinova possesses the most unique mesmerizing memorable amazing atavistic tribunal primordial shaman goddess voice in the world -any age. At age 14 her incredible and legendary performance of an old ritual wedding folk song titled “ rechenka” ( River in English) Is -to this day-considered by many professional vocalists and coaches as the most unique and mesmerizing live performance by a vocalist -any age , in the history of Russian talent shows-adult or kids!! And along with “ Human” ( low notes to die for.. she’s a rare contralto ) and “ Wicked Game” contributed to her winning not only the kids contest for 2 consecutive years but catapulted her to international stardom.
with millions of avid followers worldwide. And you might want to read a little about her tragic younger years as an orphan abandoned and tossed into a garbage can unable speak for years after she was up for adoption by her birth mother at age 3.

She entered her first kids contest in Russia where she sang a song that required masterful yodeling.
It was a masterpiece, a tour de force, some say the best yodeling performance in the history of videos showcasing yodeling, but in this performance it wasn’t just her amazing yodeling but also her body movement and stage presence and incredible as this might sound ( and I’ll shortly explain the reason why) but NOT ONE CHAIR TURNED!!!!
After the song was finished and the judges turned around , the audience interrupted what they were saying by giving Diana a 5 minute STANDING OVATION. After the applause, the judges had her perform a segment of a French song made famous by Edith Pief and after she sang it , the lady judge covered her face with both hands in utter shock , disbelief and SHAME. The judges said they didn’t press their buttons because they couldn’t teach her anything. She was beyond their level already. But this turned out to be a BLATANT LIE and one of the worse scandals in Russian talent contest history. Because the following day it was revealed that the contest was “ fixed” the winner was “bought” before the show started. A total travesty of justice and revealing how corrupt this Russian kids show was at the time.
And the following days over 80 million who watched the contest when posted on CZcams spit on the judges.
But she got her revenge the following year and year thereafter by winning not only the Russian contests in two consecutive years but 60 more awards and contests.
Please ( when you get the chance) I BEG of you to at least privately react by YouTubing “ Diana Ankudinova yodeling”.
And you’ll witness a yodeling masterpiece and if you stay to near the end of the judges commentary ( making excuses and lying) you will hear a brief portion of the French song the judges asked her to sing that she NAILED!
And there is a video of her outside a mall at age 11 singing this same French song but the complete version and she KILLED IT!!!! And when you’re convinced that she’s one of the best female vocalist in the world ( like millions of others including myself) you may want to react to a couple of her newer songs: ( she just turned 17 the other day) like “by your voice”.

She’s now almost as popular as the great male pop-op vocalist Dimash. And has her own Facebook fan club. And rumor has Diana and Dimash will perform together one day in the not-to-distant future and when it happens I can assure you when the upcoming concert is announced, it will be SOLD OUT in less than 20 minutes. ( 40,000 screaming fans.)

You should read up on her back story. She was heavily abused by her birth mother and almost died from abuse. Adopted from an orphanage by a worker. Her mother used vocal lessons at a young age to help her speak as they couldn't figure out why Diana wasn't speaking. This show called You Are Super was formed to help kids with rough back grounds. One of the Judges Igor is Dimash's sponsor and has helped Diana as well with education and exposure.

I think she was going more for an O vowl on purpose because of the low setting she is using in this song. Her pronunciation is actually pretty good in other songs.

This show is called "You are Super" It's for underprivileged youth to have the chance at a talent show. Diana was badly neglected by her birth mother and was taken to an orphanage at a very young age. She was eventually adopted by a woman working at the orphanage and given singing lessons to help her speak..

Mirroe and clearoe where on purpose. Like Angelina Jordan she plays with the vows on the end of a word to add color. Shamanic/tribal. LOVE IT! As stated before she is a true contralto. I too would like to know how she discovered her tone and what the thought process was behind the switch. She has been performing and singing since age five. There was a definite change in tone from her early stuff. She did mention needing help when going through puberty.

Hi there!) She didnt realized that she have a talent or something like that. She was adopted and didnt speak well. So her adoptive mother desided to enroll her in vocal courses so she can learn how to control her voice and maybe it could help her to speak. She sings as much time as she talks. Since you're a vocal coach I'm going to suggest, and you correct me if I'm mistaken, that when she reaches some of her unique sounds, she seems to pull her tongue backward toward her throat creating that special resonance. At 4:43 is an example of what I'm speaking of.
Just as an aside, she grew up an orphan after being removed from an abusive mother. She was born just northeast of North Korea. So I cannot imagine how she was able to develop her talent under those conditions. It's difficult to believe she didn't have some formal training. Funny how she didn't make the cut for the Russian Kids Voice the year before this competition. Actually not funny but rather stunning. Well their loss.

I had given up waiting for you to do your next reaction of Diana. I thought you can't have liked her the first time.
If you feel like another go, any of her fans will suggest Rechenka (River) sung in the "You Are Super" competition when she was 14.
She is 17 now and in the interim has had to work hard with her changing voice. You can judge the results from her song "Wave" (sound only, no video yet) or a short video of her singing the main theme from "Take On Me" by A-ha.
Addendum: Georgina, you are bang on about the arrangement. If they put this out as a finished item to stream or buy, I'd buy it right now.

When I first heard her sing I thought it was a boy. I didn't understand how a girl can have such a deep voice.
When I first heard Dimash, I thought it was a girl singing. Thankfully, he also can sing in a really deep voice which I prefer
I think many female artists have deep voices like Taylor Swift, Mariah Carey, Beyonce and Selena Gomez(though a mediocre singer). Oh yea and Miley too

Regarding her singing at a young age... after being abused, she kind of mentally closed her speaking skills. So when her new mom adopted her, she tried to get her to speak by getting her involved in many activities, but only in the singing group she actually started to vocalize and sing. And only after that she started talking again.

I dont know when and how she figured out how good her tone quality is, but she start singing at 5 years old to correct a serious stutter issue. So basically, she fell into singing. :)

My daughter is an opera singer, self taught I might add lol, thanks Sumi Jo, but when she went to study seriously one of the things her teacher told her was about not darkening her voice, and I can hear that with this girl. The trouble with wrong placement is that it can damage the vocal chords if prolonged.
Some people are able to maintain a good technique while doing that back word retraction of the tongue. Diana and Celine Dion are two singers that can do that.
DDA Olga Donskaya teaches her to make her voice darker than it is in a bad way.

It’s probably digitally enhanced too, unclear up to what point. These days they can do crazy things with your voice, even real-time, change pitch, tone, everything.
You are totally wrong, just genuine vocals with a touch of reverb.
