    This video is a overview of the Accubrush XT Paint Edger and a comparison of other traditional trim painting techniques. I give my ratings on Frog Painters tape, Shur-Line Paint Edging, the straight edge trim guard, and using a free-handed 2" angled paint brush. If you find this video helpful and informative, please consider giving the video a thumbs up and leave a comment. I normally respond to comments the same day. I usually upload new videos 2 times a week. Thanks for watching!

    Wagner had the best trimmer same engineering as this one but contained the paint in the handle which solved the problem of getting paint on the edge guard when loading up that one. It came in useful when doing contrasting paint colors. Still at the end of the day a good brush and a little practice with a steady hand is the fastest. Also if you get paint on the wood trim take a 3 inch putty knife wrap the blade tightly with a slightly damp cloth and run it down the trim this removes the oops and leaves a nice straight paint line.

      Accrubrush and ready to test it in about 2 weeks. I had looked into Wagner but since my paint is a bit thicker not sure how well it will float from Wagner's handle to the roller.

    I own the Accubrush. The limitation is NOT the 1/8" gap you see in the video.He could have corrected that by adjusting the mini brush.The limitation IS having a straight and smooth edge to guide your Accubrush along.If you have textured ceilings. Forget it. If you have trim that is flush, forget it.There are instances where the Accubrush just can't work.I recommend using painter's tape and clear-drying caulk, then pull the tape while paint is still wet. Better edge than anything done by hand.

    The sureline edger works very well if you apply the paint onto the pad with a small roller or brush. Only apply the paint 1/2 away from the edge on the pad & start away from the trim & with medium/light pressure work twords the trim about 2 feet per load.
    I am a painting contractor & some gadgets work, some dont, however the more time you have behind a brush the better youll get.
    Purdy brushes are more difficult to cut a straight line with as the bristles have become larger & very rigid.
    Try a wooster alpha brush or a proform contractor brush with smaller/thinner- softer bristles for smoother/ light texure walls & a wooster chinex brush for heavier textured walls.

    It is very clear that many "pro" painters won't try or "don't" like the product because it doesn't meet their standards. That is OK but the target market is DIY'ers that aren't going to pay for professional painters to do their projects. I am just finishing up painting the exterior of my house. I get lots of compliments from people walking their dogs and neighbors etc. My house is pretty difficult in spots. Uneven ground and a split level makes it a little scary. I think the most important part of painting was the CUT IN work. From the street it looks fine, but I see it at ladder level and wish I was more talented because I will never get the experience needed to do perfect cut ins. So next time I may buy one of these (interior only). Great review. I think the product is overpriced but good for doing it yourself.

    I have never used this product... but I am assuming it is useless when cutting into a popcorn style ceiling. Wouldn't the edger damage the finish? And as with the cheap edger blocks, does the fold in shield eventually get paint on it?

    • @MarkThomasBuilder
      @MarkThomasBuilder  Před 8 lety

      +Robert Bridel I occasionally clean the paint off around the shield, as I'm using it. If the popcorn goes right to the edge, then it won't work well. I have a stomped finish ceiling, but the inside corner is smooth enough to use an edger. I hope that helps.

    They make an MX model for just $39 on Amazon and it works better than the $100 model. The $100 model does not work well on a pole and the MX has a handle and no pole so you are close enough to have the control you need. I can paint faster and make a cleaner line with the MX than a professional painter using a brush.You can adjust the brush on the MX to have no gap whatsoever and paint right up to the edge. You need to roll an inch away from the wall with the shield open after you load up the roller to avoid getting too much paint on the shield which then could get on the trim.If you know how to use this tool properly it is amazingly fast and accurate. Most of the videos I have seen slam this product because they are not using it properly.

    I'm a professional painting contractor (as many of you guys commenting on this video) I don't like how in the video it leaves a unpainted gap between the wall and trim doesn't look very professional, the trick to cutting in clean lines against trim work for me has always been by cutting in your tape the paint can't bleed through the tape if it's not "globbed" on there by dipping your full brush and putting it right against your tape you don't have to cut it in perfectly like when cutting against a ceiling either just remember less is more, I do this and pull my tape after 2 coats with flawless results 99% of the time, sure there will be a touch up or 2 here in there but still looks better and is right against the edge of the trim and looks professional unlike what it looks like with this tool lol good video tho appreciate the honest review on this tool :)

    • @trjo6669
      @trjo6669 Před 7 lety +4

      In defense of this tool tho... I could see using it on commercial jobs where they want a coat of the exact same color just to "freshen up" the space where meticulous detail isn't required (like in a customers million dollar home lol) in this case I could see this tool as a good investment for production painting to save time and sundry costs :)

But I can cut a room out in 20 minutes myself with just a good 3" angle sash Purdy, and I'd still give it a try. Prob not that great on stucco surfaces. If it speeds up the job considering all my variables then its worth it. If it's just another spring time doohickey they come out with, I have lots of those in a junk pile. Speed = profit

    What? No close up of the actual "work" to show the 2-3 mm "white" spot where the brush didn't get all the way up to the wood trim? Plus this also assumes that the surface you are butting up to is both smooth and straight, i.e. at a 90 deg. angle from the surface your are applying the paint to. Not the case with some fancier crown mouldings.

    • @hugot12
      @hugot12 Před 7 lety +10

      it isnt a gift, it time at it, where you learn what angle you hold an angular brush to the line to cut in. Purdy brushes hold the knife edge inward. My 15 yr old Purdy brush does not feather out the bristles.
      Wet the brush with water or solvent thinner if solvent paint is the choice. Shake out the wetting agent. Reason to wet bristles,keeps paint from drying out bristles half way up brush that cause bristles to spread out and lock in a bad brush knife edge at tip. Next , never work out of paint can, yes I said it ,its are real amature approach.
      Fill another bucket with about 3 inches of paint. Dip brush light and quick, tap both sides of brush to inside of bucket sides, it loads brush properly and secures a dripless brush. You dont scrape off paint on one side, only after you've left brush sitting down in paint for a break is this done. Loading a smooth wet brush increases spead and flow.
      You dont always dip the whole width of the brush,sometimes just a portion of the angular tip. This is just my 42 yrs as a painting contractor hold and using a brush. Applying more or less paint to a line as you moving in to make it straight.
