This is a video on How to use a paint edger, specifically the shut-line brand. Using a Shur-Line Paint Edger is one of my favorite tricks to get professional-looking results while cutting in with less effort. It's a tool that helps you paint crisp, clean lines without using masking tape or any other materials. It has a small wheel at the edge of the pad which keeps the paint from going outside the line you want to paint. There are some tricks to getting the best results with the tool, but once you get used to it, you can quickly create smooth lines on any wall or surface.

thank you! I'm glad I read the comments! I'll look for your next video for the edger you like better - I'll be purchasing later today!
Thanks for sharing this video with us Andrew, it was very helpful.
I didn’t realize so many people commented on this video. Glad it helped.
Thank you for the tips! I made big mistakes last night and your video explained exactly what it was...you saved our room!
Thanks for watching. Glad it helped so long ago. 😆 I didn’t even think people would really watch this. It’s amazing how many people have over the years.
This video was just what I was looking for ! I have the exact textured walls, thanx soo much !!!!
You’re welcome. Thanks for watching and the comments.
🙏🏽 thanks. Great explanation.
An excellent video. Thank You!
Thanks for watching. Glad you liked it.
FUNCIONA MUY BIEN!
Good demo 👍
Thanks. It wasn’t really but I’m glad some people found it useful. 😁
Why I'm just finding this tool I needed this last week paint two house I hate tapping off it more messy and time consuming than anything. Caulking the tape is good to, but I like this ideal better.
I haven’t tried caulking the tape.
@@Handiest-pro keeps the paint from bleeding over the tape it's too time consuming.
Excuse the off color reply, enjoy the how to videos, thanks for sharing your experiences.
Thank you Andrew! I just subscribed. I want to to try that. Does it work well where the ceiling and walls are two different colors?
Thank you. I just did a DIY paint job. I wish I had seen your information earlier. I'll bet if you focus on certain types of common problems people can overcome with tolls you will be a great success here. Have a great day brother.
It does work well with 2 different colors. Just let the one wall dry before doing the other wall. Someone suggested applying the paint onto the Shur-pad with a paint brush assuring to not put too little or too much. It worked perfectly for me. Just need to be patient and not in a big rush. It's worth its weight in gold to not have to use tape or the frustration for those that have problems cutting in and not keep a steady straight line. Slow and steady wins the race:)
Don’t dip the pad. Use your brush (2 1/2 square cut sash) to apply paint to the pad, brushing off the edges not on. Earlier versions of this edger had teeth on the inside of the pad so you could adjust how close it cut. This is particularly useful when cutting to a ceiling where you want to stay short so as not to get into wavy drywall jointing leaving a wavy cut line. Hopefully the ceiling paint done first filled the corner and came down the wall a little. Top down and Far to near are long standing painting rules
One of the wheels on my edger stopped rolling due to paint drying on it. I am hoping it will work anyway.
That’s happened to me. On mine the wheels piped out so I could clean it.
Dipping in the bucket of paint correctly so not to get any on the wheels could be harder than using an edge trimmer paint brush.
Sounds like this video might not be for you. CZcams doesn’t always get the targeting right or maybe I got the title and description wrong. Anyway, thanks for watching.
Don't load it that way. Get a brush and paint the edger instead of dipping it. Much neater.
wood chip paper evil! lol
Have tried these tools in the past, and always run into the same problem, no matter how careful I am, and that is getting paint on the rollers/front edge, that ultimately ends up with paint on the opposite edge.
Yea, I found that super frustrating.
Hi again! I think you should come to this comment section and "like/love" every praising comment, a) cuz it's nice even years later, b) you may trigger a few to come check out your latest content!
would you paint the wall please, to much chatter. thanks for your effort.
Yea. This was the first time I had ever recorded myself. Super nervous. Thanks for the comments
This is the most frustrating video ever. Nearly 9 minutes and all of that amounts to about 30 seconds of the tool actually being used.
I just pushed through the video until I saw some action. lol - now I'm looking for the next video on the tool he likes better.
Don't dip it. Load it with a paint brush...
Haven’t tried that.
Your paint dryers already
Ok?
Use a cut in brush much easier.
For some people it sure is, others not so much. That’s why they make these things. Thanks for watching and the comments.
35+yrs painting an I think that thing is junk.ill stick to a 3" brush 😂👍
Yea, with 35 year’s experience I don’t think you’re the target market for this product.
the lines seem all wavey , are the wheels bent or somethink. why not just use a brush its junk I think
Yea. Not for everyone. Thanks for watching and the comments
quicker too use a brush , just more junk in your box
For some sure. Others that don’t want to spend the time to learn just for a home project, it’s easier to use one of these.
Learn how to cut with a brush properly . get a laser and practice cutting lines.
That’s a good idea. Most people don’t want to spend the time learning how to cut in just to tackle a home project though.
way way wayyyyyy too much paint. Load only the first 1-1 1/2 " from the wheels otherwise you end up with a paint line . NEVER have the whole pad filled with paint
I agree, I'm a pro and edgers are all I use....too much paint, just dip the first couple inches
I’m wondering, if the manufacturer (Shur-Line) only wanted you to paint the first 1-1/2”, then why would they make such a wide pad to begin with?
Must be joking! This think is not needed by real painters. Where is the skill? Dipping into bucket
I'm a painter.. please stop.. that tool is a joke
Looks like it does a really nice straight line to me.
Why ....Is it a joke ?
The results speak for themselves
danny boy is just mad because it makes him obsolete you save big money not hiring someone like him!
danny boy This is a HORRIBLE product! I have tried it previously and the paint seeps in the the edges of the paint sponge gets on the wheels and smears paint on the opposite wall, framing or Ceiling (in my case)😡 I agree with you
