A quick disclaimer - A lot of these videos use information from the witcher wiki, in some cases I do read directly from the pages, I do always make sure to include my own thoughts and other information I know myself, but I just want to make sure everyone is on the same page here. Even though I use information from the wiki, I do still create the videos, with time, effort and a lot of editing! The idea behind the lore videos is to present the information to you guys in a fun and more interesting way then you guys having to get the information from pages and read it yourself. If anyone isn't okay with this I apologise, but since day one I have always said where I get the information from. Thank you for reading.
“They have also been called devil.”
‘*Gaunter O’ Dimm laughing in the distance*’
Aha
Gaunter o dimm is the best
They look like actual "chorts" from slavic folklore, and the translation for this word to english usually suggests "Devil", although they actually are to Satan what elves are to Santa Claus. Not quite the "demons" in the english language, since they're usually corporeal.
The Sylvans in Witcher 3 is obese because he takes and feeds the tributes given him.
Geralt even comments how obese they've become.
Even Torque in the first witcher book started to grow a belly, but since he gave most stuff he plundered to the Blue Mountain elves, he stayed relatively healthy.
Hey! i understand that reference!!
also as the sylvans have more magic in the game i thiknk he was being legiitmate about what he does for the group but he got greedy.
the fire breathing stuff is obviously just a spell like igni
There's another sylvan in the witcher 3 Im pretty sure and he's just as fat xD
Fugas is just painted, you can see his actual skin colour in places.
I always thought 'relicts' were creatures native to the world prior to the conjunction.

@vin 950 relicts and humans came from the conjunction of the spheres. The elder races (elves, dwarves, halflings) were already there, for one reason or another. The only creatures that were already on the continent before the conjunction were regular beasts such as dogs, wolves, and bears. Hope this helps!
Everyone: Dandy-lion

Leman Russ books translated to Dutch; Ranonkel
I mean, I prefer the audio books definition.. sounds more suiting to the subject matter.
Jaskier
So basically politicians
A couple of fat sylvans doesn't necessarily mean that cdpr was trying to change anything.
I remember the one from "the last wish" and it came of as a very young sylvan, because it seemed that Geralt had to explain basic things to him that a child would already know.
Btw, Last Wish/Sword of Destiny is probably my favorite book in the series, because it felt like a bunch of side quests, with a somewhat overarching narrative.
Ikr!! Specially the audiobooks (with a good reader that is)...they are so much fun
They remind me of Satyrs. It's like they're inspired by them, but as a corrupted version
yeah quite obviously
Yeah i think Relic is the classification of all the post-Conjunction creatures (so no cursed beings or spectres) that haven't been classified in a specific class (like Vampires, Orcoids/Goblinoids/Giants, Insectoids, Hybrid Animals, Draconids). On this note, each class encompasses a broad amount of beings that have little in common per se, take the Insectoids, for example: you have Endriagas that are your run of the mill insectoids, with differend classes (drones, workers, warriors, probably a queen was cited in the bestiary), but you also have Arachas that are described to be more akin to plants, and Arachnomorfs that look more like huge mutated spiders, or the Orcoids you get the trolls, but you also get Giants, and Nekkers (that are basically goblins). This is another peculiar trait that i like of this classification: it's not a naturalistic class system, it's something that the witchers made up to simplify their job
I really like the Slyvans! I quite like their rare appearances in the books and the games, and I hope we see them more in the future (maybe even in the Netflix series)! :)
They're really cool
@@WitcherGeorge I agree! :)
@@lukeskywalkerthe2nd773 Amit Shah has been cast as Torque, so you're in luck!
Yea they should be in the Netflix series I know some people who could play the part you wouldn't even need cgi

Nice video as always ..I was waiting for a video about Sylvans anyway thanks man for this nice video..
Thank you man
Thanks for including my comment! Awesome vid like always
Thanks man
I’d quite like to see a video on the lifespan of the various races, always been curious about it
good idea!
Have you done a video on Witcher Potions? That would be a good video! :)
Good idea!
Please! This is go to channel for Witcher information please do the potions video. :)
Also could be it’s own catagory since you could also add the Oils and decoctions
Could it be that the Sylvans seen in Witcher 3 are obese because the have a great access to food. Allgod gets food all the time from Humans and the Guardian of the three Witches (forgot the name) is likely also to get large amounts of food for guarding them. So my conclusion is there are non-obese Sylvans in Witcher 3 theoreticly but you just don‘t see them.
Sorry for the inperfect english, im german
im an illustrator researching fauns for my MA in illustration and this came in really helpful!
Not sure if you did it already, but I’m interested in learning more about Beserkers and Djinns. Keep up the quality work and I look forward to your next video!
Thank you man and good idea!
Relicts are what inhabited the planet before the collision of the spheres. It makes sense, its the only category without a home world described either in the games or in the books and "relic(t)" means an "object surviving from an earlier time".
Wait.....waitttttttttttttt.....there is a CZcams Witcher channel dedicated to the lore and universe of the Witcher!! New sub buddy you just filled my workless saturday from a welding shop day with your video's and my oil pen(winkyface)EDIT=I kept skippin the Dr. Squatch soap comercial, pretty funny commercial actually.
Holy shit, in episode 3 I think of the witcher netflix series I think that's what he was talking about. There was a sylvan dandelion/Jaskier and geralt got attacked by.
Nice vids bro
Thanks man!
How about a series about abandoned fortifications divided by size or area of the placement. There are several interesting buildings, small forts, watchtowers, etc.
Sounds good!
The sylvans are literally uh oh stinky.
Do another video on the Netflix casting updates!
I'll consider it!

Might be a bit late here but
The Sylvan in the last wish is about 2,5 meters I think, so not small?
Also, Geralt says that he isn't allowed to kill him following the codex
Also he speaks the dwarven tongue!
in the opening clip that voice actor is the same one from Bloodborne. the does the voice of the dark beast man you find out in the woods that if you send back to the temple he makes you beast pills.
I don't know I'f you ever talked about this but can talk about geralts past experience with the wild hunt before the witcher 3 since he was with them for awhile
Good idea!
It’s interesting the Netflix show did their own take on Sylvans that was just as different as the game and the book versions
You're a dick...with balls
I’d like to see a video about Eskel
Im pretty sure Sylvans in Witcher 3 are just fat simply because of asset sharing as the one that was a “god” was supposed to be fat as he was stealing food from local peasants. As for the mountain Sylvan was just a shared asset with a different color set
I think that Sylvans in the Witcher 3 are just fat :D. Thus they gained mass. My personal opinion.
Well, Geralt actually states (and you see it in this video) that the Sylvan fatted up rather nice...
Possibly, but the fact the only two in-game examples show them as big, Geralt does state that the first looks big, but he doesn't for the second. The fact we never see a small one and the bestiary entry shows the big picture, not a small version. Also consider the height of the sylvan in the witcher 3, eating doesn't make you taller.
@@WitcherGeorge that is probably a model limtiation more than anything. use a similar model for both characters.
You should do a video on djinn since they are really cool entities in the games and books
Good idea!
My spirit animal
So I can't help but remember the sylvan in one of the books. Dandelion was throwing rocks at it in a field, and angering Geralt, because they got charged by the beast. I feel like this same sylvan was instrumental in determining their fate, at the hands of the Scoia'tael. It's been a long time since I read those.
Very awesome little story
@@WitcherGeorge I agree. The books were great!
Bombs and crossbow? Have you used the crossbow? The thing cab barely kill ants
Lol that sylvian who serves the Crones in named "Fugas". That's a generic term for artillery ammunition and explosions in the russian language (from french "fougasse" though, I assume it came from the times when french was the universal international language).
we need a torque ST/MO dualfaction card in gwent
Great vid as always sir georgothy. (Jor-juh-thee) lol damn I’m lame.
Thank you sir Keviothy
Ahaha I love it, you’re a dope dude George, keep up the superb work.
70 - 80 for a human in witcher universeum seems little much. The world is set in the Middle Age. So it,s more likelee 40 - 50 If you are luckie only pepole in hige stating could live to 70 - 80.
Sorry for the bad english.
Gamer 969 Rivere that’s comparing it to the real world tho, the Witcher universe is it’s own entity with magical beings and what not.
Humans didn't have sub 50 year life spans since we were Hunter gatherers. Living to 70 or 80 was pretty likely no matter who you were if you made it to about 30. It was so easy to die in a war or from getting the flu or just during birth that it pushed the average lifespan very low. So if you have a married couple who live to 70 and 75 and over their lives they have 8 kids. 6 die before turning one, 1 kid dies at 6 from tuberculosis and 1dies fighting in a war at 16. That's 70+75+0+0+0+0+0+0+6+16=167/10= 16.7
@@snakeballs8965 work in the farms and the poor diet in those times made us age faster then today too

Nice!
Please make a video about Berengar
Good idea!
Do a video on Duchess Anna Henrietta
Good idea!
What is this quest and was'nt this same creature in the caves before ciri meets crones
Put them on the potential purge list
For Sylveans it's not really about stealing as much as it is a practical joke. They love their pranks!
They're great!
I love how you not only tell us about their lore and their way of life but also how we should fight them
Thank you!
Considering they can increase crop yields, I'm surprised they have never been hired or enslaved by humans to be used to this end.
Might be hard to capture something that breathes fire is very strong and is very agile...
3:50 Sylvans most enjoy taking what people have earned or worked for.. in a nutshell, they're identical to our nowadays polliticians... :-D
One average, a human being during the middleages, would either live 30-45. If you were rich or had food and lived in places, that didn't have bacteria or sickness, they could live longer. Even if they did, most elders who wander into the woods and die to wolves, since it would mean a less mouth to feed
Very odd that they look so intimidating yet they made them so tame.
I suppose
I've only ever encountered the one that works with the Crohn's what quest can I encounter the other one in
creepy boners some place in Velen, he lives under some ruins and tells local peasants that he’ll help them in exchange for food. Witcher contract maybe? Cannot remember :(
No it's not a witcher contract, you need to first have the Nehaleni Eye (so you must have completed Keira's mission) and then go to Wastrel Manor (it's near a Nilfgaardian encampment). You will find two peasants talking about the Allgod, you talk to them and start the "Greedy God" secondary quest
allgod quest!
I just giggled when you said that they're rare because I killed both of the ones you can meet in the witcher 3
Aha
Wait what about the fire demon geralt and ciri meet in the cave when Ciri goes to kill the crones
That's a Sylvan!
is there a connection between sylvans and succubus/incubus?
+WitcherGeorge, may I ask you where is that accent from?
Northern England!

@@WitcherGeorge I think there's a lot that can be said and the politics of how it got created are fascinating. Could you also highlight its geographic location? I have always had trouble orienting it on the map.

?
aidan schreuer boi!
What quest is that in the beginning?
A Greedy God
The allgod quest in velen!
So what you're saying is I'm a Sylvan?
Are sylvans and succibi related?
I would say they aren't since a succubus feeds off a humans' sexual energy, so that means they suduce their opponents. So how the hell is a sylvan supposed to do any of those things like suduceing people for instance?
What if the Sylvan in the book was a real young one? Like a child and maybe that's why he was smaller and so "playful".
P.S: Have you done a video about Brokilon? That would be good.
Mariano Moya he did a dryad video so there’s no reason to do about broklin
Good idea!
i think the average human lifespan in the witcher games is around 30, i mean , try living in that world and not getting killed by a drowner everytime geralt is in town
Maybe it was just this sylvan that was lasy
They and other creatures are classified as relics because of how old their race are

I think I am sylvan
I just took it the one in the game was an unusually fat one
Was I the only one who found a similarity between the “Allgod” and the Judeo-Christian God ?
Sylvans: Fat devil looking dudes.... witch are also not evil all the time.

But they always have bad attitudes.
The sylvan looks more like a real chort from slav mythology trust me I am czech
if humans in the witcher world have an average lifespan of 70 years, i´ll never use a shower and start to bear swords
@vin 950 why no showers? because they don´t have showers. Your lifespan hypothesis is bullshit. how many old people (older than 70) do you see in Novigrad? ~0 ? thanks end of diskussion.
I personally dislike the game sylvans, in the book he was more of an annoying old satyr or faun with a funnier persona. A lot of things improve in the games but I really think they did them some injustice. (p.s. in the book he was also called a Taurus which gives some extra quality to their character)
