  • What Are Curses? In this witcher lore video I explain curses in the witcher. I explain how curses work, what type of curses there are and some famous witcher curses.
The Witcher® 3: Wild Hunt is a story-driven, next-generation open world role-playing game, set in a visually stunning fantasy universe, full of meaningful choices and impactful consequences. You play as Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter tasked with finding a child from an ancient prophecy.
Geralt of Rivia, is a witcher, or monster hunter for hire, a white-haired and cat-eyed legend in his own time. Trained from early childhood and mutated to gain superhuman skills, strength and reflexes, witchers like Geralt are a natural consequence of and counterbalance to the monster-infested world in which they live. As Geralt, you’ll embark on an epic journey in a war-ravaged world that will inevitably lead you to confront a foe darker than anything humanity has faced so far-the Wild Hunt.
Built exclusively for next-generation hardware, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt marks a new era in RPG visual quality. Raising the bar for the entire genre, with its deeply integrated 5.1 audio and jaw-dropping graphics powered by CD PROJEKT RED’s proprietary REDengine 3, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt promises an entirely new kind of experience.

I think the curses are such an interesting part of the Witcher, that it makes it where Witchers aren't just monster slayers, that they research and understand different curses to then try and go about lifting the curse from the victim, since it's better than simply cutting the head off the victim

It's a really fun part of the game, it's like you have a job to do and you are the expert. It makes the world alive, there's a level of intelligence to a Witcher past just being a killing machine

So true, with the School of the Griffin being one of the best. They were a knightly order who primarily studied magic, if anybody knew curses through and through, it was the School of the Griffin. It’s sad that they don’t exist anymore all because mages were jealous of the Griffins knowledge and desire to keep it hidden from the world, deciding to destroy the school and all its records. Hopefully, someday, a school will be able to regain that knowledge and keep it safe. I’m sure it was world altering to have the deep archives that the Griffin’s did.

I do like the School of the Griffin, with their values treating the Witcher trade as a noble yet professional calling, following the values of their grandmaster Erland of Larvik who had the values instilled in him by a knight errant called The Griffin

That's actually not true, well, not always. Many witchers prefer to kill the accursed rather than save them. Breaking a curse is more often than not a difficult process that require specifics knowledges and artifacts. It's not always possible to break a curse. Remember the Eternal Battle ? Philippa said that there was six recorded curses of that type but only one has been recorded to have been broken.

One of the very first quests you encounter is called "Wild at Heart", and that quest does such an amazing job of setting the tone for the entire game. I mean it. It drew you in so masterfully and executed the story so ruthlessly, in a way that was both engaging and very confronting.
For me, that quest was my 'Welcome to the World of the Witcher' moment.
So, get ready for some serious awesomeness!
    Justice for Neillen.😞😭

You know it may be a thing that the creature one turns into depends on who or what casted it first. So like the bird lady wasn't cursed by humans so that's why it's unique. Or something like that

Glad you’re still coming up with amazing content!
Makes me excited for the future Witcher games and what’s CDPR has for us!
My only concern is Unreal 5 haven’t seen anything amazing yet, and some games over do it on trying to look to real, vs a video game

Pellar colloquial sorcerer - in the Slavic religion, a fortune teller, partly also a magician, a kind of equivalent of a shaman known from other primitive cultures. After Christianization, volkhvas began to be called "sorcerers". The art of Volkhva divination was associated with the cult of the chthonic god Veles, and aspects of animism and shamanism can be seen in it. The bard Bojan was also considered a "grandson of Veles", which could indicate his connection with Veles and the Volkhvas.

Curses are broad, you could say there's an endless variety of them... but are all curses really a curse or is it simply a magic spell cast on someone? I would categorize true curses as those that are not cast on someone who knows how to use magic, the strong emotion variety being true curses though calling the rest anything other doesn't really help anyone. So Gaunter cast a spell on Marlena, the intent and result was the same as a curse even if the casting method was not a curse.
And it wasn't a curse he cast on her, it was premeditated. Gaunter doesn't need to beg for kitchen scraps, he bet himself that she would turn him away and he won the bet and paid it by turning her into a Wight. And I say bet because he does like making bets, probably saw her in town before her feast and overheard her say something nasty about beggars then wagered if she would follow the custom or tell him to F off. He does bets and riddles alongside contracts... OOoooh I just figured out what he really is! A lawyer with a gambling problem!

Please keep your Witcher videos coming, mate. No matter how old this game get, it remains the greatest game of all time. It’s like a vintage wine, it only improves with time. On my 26th full playthrough, and that is the real number, I came upon a minor side quest that I have never seen before! How this game does this I don’t know but I never stops amazing me. Thank you. 🦘🦘🦘

5:49 Their intelligence isn't relevant, Humans classifies as monsters every non-humans creatures that doesn't built civilisation. Godlings are intelligent beings yet they are considered monters like Higher Vampires.
6:27 Why does everyone assume the beggar was Gaunter ? Just because of a vague letter and a soundtrack ? Come on...
8:14 Yes, curses are very specifics spells meant to make their victims suffer and are always hard to break. In fact, not all curses can be broken because the specifics requirements to break them are lacking.
8:37 He's more like a priest or a spiritual guide.
