because ive seen a lot of people who didnt like the really enthusiastic singing into the microphone, i wanted to share why i like it bc i feel like people are sleeping on it. its clear throughout the music video that james is continuously repeating these actions (like looking in the mirror, standing in the doorway, waking up and trying to sleep, etc.) and throughout the video he seems to get progressively more stressed to the point where he feels the need to smash the clock, and "unchain" himself, the change in lighting and frame during the line "i keep having dreams where i hurt them" shows the deeper more difficult side of this loop, and the cut off of the line "maybe ill find it in your" shows the build of his struggle throughout the song and music video, so with that considered, the way he sings into the microphone makes sense for the mood of the video (in my opinion at least) because you can tell hes getting closer to his breaking point (and was already on the brink when the song started), and afterwards when he finally completes the line "maybe ill find it in your hand" its almost a sense of closure because he's destroyed the clock, and "unchained" himself. hope that makes sense! (again, just my interpretation :)
