This made me cry, it's such an emotional story portrayed really well through the use of imagery and symbolism within both the lyrics and the visuals of the music video. I think it might be the first time I ever comment on a video, but damn that was amazing.
I went into it without any expectations because I never listened to anything made by James, I am so pleasantly surprised. The vocals fit the mood of the music video perfectly and it's complimented by some really moving instrumentals. From the mixing to your voice itself, the lyrics and everything made it a very emotional listen.

Happy one year anniversary to Romanticise This, wooo
I don't know if this was intentional or if I'm just reading to far into it but the ending where the guitar starts up again really furthers that message of being in a cycle you cant get out of, even when you knowing that it won't end well. Plus with him starting of video of what I assume is the wedding tape again.
I also have a suspicion this is about loss tearing apart relationships/marriages cause that looked like a kids bicycle helmet he was holding during the counselling and wearing in the bike ride. If that's the case that's even more heart-wrenching cause the mix of grief from losing a partner and a family member all rolled into one.
This is such and amazing song and I love the video for it, it adds so much to the message its so well done!

This song means a lot to to me. As a Trans-Women. Who has a bit of a struggle, being a women. I love this song. Part of me is constantly pushing the trans side of me away. Like I have to be my original self. Sometimes the trans side wants to come out, it wants attention. My parents are exactly ‘supportive’ of me. They seem to think that this isn’t right for me, simply because I didn’t have this dysphoria as kid. And how when my Mom met her little brother, she knew he was gay. And because of this part of me is like, “no im not trans I have to be who I originally am. I can’t do this”. And throughout all the transphobic comments and just things I keep getting told, it’s just like, god forbid that I romanticize these feelings of wanting to be a women. I just want to embrace these feelings and I want to romanticize them, like I’m being criticized for it. The ending of the song feels like to me, the last time that I push these feelings away and fully romanticize them. Which is something I haven’t been able to experience yet, but I really want too. I’m hoping one day, I say, “You know what, this is the last time. That I pick up the phone, to let the straight of me know, that they’re alone now.” And the trans side of me can fully be like understood and embrace itself. Theres a comic like the scenario I’m describing I can’t quite remember the name I think it was Chamelon who can’t change colors or something. I’m hoping one day that I’ll be able to experience that last bit though, and make this song even more special than it already is to me.

The way I’ve interpreted this, is that the balloons represent the past memories of his toxic relationship and when he throws them out the window, he’s able to let go.

I like how the balloons could symbolise the fragility of love/relationships without the correct amount of attention or care. The way that he is the only ‘human’ may show that he has the most power in the situation, yet disregards it and goes down a path of self destruction. This power is also seen by him throwing the balloons out the window, showing he has control over the situation.
