The next episode is on! This time it is more educative, less action as I will talk about the gear I always bring to the crag. It is quite obvious that I always bring the rope or quickdraws. Other pieces might be more surprising, but often almost equally important.

Magnus midtbo avoids this subject because be feels a lot of top level climbers have eating disorders in order to maintain their weight. Some times it is bad for people to share their diet with impressionable people

@@CoNFiiDeNTiiAL Yeah, while it would be interesting, many pro level athletes have professional nutritionists that monitor their intake of food and advise them on what they specifically need. In some cases (like that one Nike sponsored group), the leadership of a team of athletes aren't even being advised by a proper nutritionist and just purely calorie count, which actually ends up being extremely detrimental to the athlete's performance (lighter isn't always better).
If Ondra has a professional nutritionist as part of his comp arsenal, could be interesting to have an interview just to at least see some these "behind the scenes" players, or maybe they could just interview and discuss the subject with some general nutritionists or something too.
I know the "Gym Climber" magazine did an article on granola bars at the gym last year, but also don't know if the information was scientifically backed or just conjecture supported by loose general facts or whatever. So, could do something similar where they look at the general nutrition of various granola bars and the needs and timing of different nutrients for climbers, which could avoid more general "meal" discussions altogether.
Some articles on the subject though if anyone wants to read a bit (one is a climber, the other a runner):

I would recommend short nylon socks (which girls are using) instead of plastic bags or plastic pieces. I discovered that recently, and this turned to be an excellent thing not only for brand-new shoes (easy slip-in and take off), but also for a permanent use - currently i feel like legs are less smashed after a long climbing session, and shoes remain more clean inside and lasts longer.

    • @philipppuchner1115
      @philipppuchner1115 Před 4 lety

that is because a way larger than expected part of the "discomfort" of a climbing shoe is the friction inside the shoe between your foot and the shoe.
Plastic on top of the foot or thin socks with low friciton provice less friction between your curled up toes and the upper of the toe box of the shoe.
Means: It feels better overall. Also the little adaptive volume of the sock around your foot can make the fit of the shoe better, since no climbing shoe fits your feet 100%.
Breaking them in and climbing makes it better, that's one reason why climbing shoes get more comfortable over time (not only because the shoes stretch and your feet increase pain resistance).
At least that's what I think and information i came across until now.

Mixed draws are fantastic due to ease of hanging a keylock on a bolt due to simplicity of the closure (as well as removal from the bolt) and clipping a rope on the lighter wiregate. Most folks who give you flack probably never contemplated the draw before choosing and have since grown accustomed or are using double wires with dyneema even though you don’t want em for sport, in part to what Adam noted but also the likelihood of falls and wear on gear plus grabbing dogbones is a thing.

Long routes and those who have to keep a rope longer due to cash flow, meet sponsored climber.
You have met the plastic water bottle , the wealthy, the disposable baby diapers of the world roadside. (I admit that when a pro, I used up the tools of my profession in a like manner) ( always check for visible wear anyway - 8.9 just hastens the Darwin effect for those who don't replace often)

I am sorry, Adam but not everybody (especially those among the traditional climbers) would not agree with the statement that choked up means respectful...Speaking about just sport routes - fine. But, for example in the CR, a large number of climbing routes are traditional ones, where choked up would mean unrespectful.

"Luce" pronuniation is closer to "Looss" than "Look" (but with the real french "u", that is [y] in phonetic) :) .
I precise this because you pronunced the french name "Luc" (Luke in english) which is a male name (and you may know she was a girl) ^^
