    The Moster 185 is pretty much the industry standard as far as paramotor engines go. It's been my go to for the last five years and has really served me well. If you have any questions about this engine, be sure to drop them down below! Also, I filmed an interesting episode last night where I came across a black bear midflight. Stay tuned!
    P.S. This video was filmed before I got the new Freeride. 😉

    Excellent review of 185 clear concise easily understandable. Great job you are a credit to paramotor understanding and help us who are counting the cost as we consider the way into paramotor fight and is that possible. Does Honda Kawasaki, or Yamaha make a paramotor engine or platform of some sort? Here's a considerable task for vlog: What is the best way into paramotor flight as a reality for a beginner, & how do I start what steps should I begin with? Do I need to own equipment first a baby steps entry or just dive in financially jump off the dock and learn to swim or in this case fly. What do I do to start with? Maybe this seems apparent to you buy not all of us live among your community and we definitely don't have your life experiences.

    I have a Moster 185 on a Miniplane frame. Agree with all your points, and would add one. When you do have to rebuild the carb, or change out even major pieces like the piston liner, it is doable. It's not a thousand step process that requires sending it to Vittorazi. All the directions are online. This means that you can buy one and keep it running a long long time. Fact is(I won't throw any manufacturer under the bus), many/most paramotor engines are really hard to do work on because in an effort to squeeze everything in screws and connections are super hard to access without pulling everything apart to the bones.

    As the new 2020 engine has a Nikasil coating on the cylinders you must ensure that you use low sulphur content fuel. The fuel in Europe is pretty much all very low sulphur but there are gas suppliers in the US which have a high sulphur content. Unfortunately sulphur in the fuel will turn in to sulphuric acid in the cylinders and eat away at the Nikasil coating. BMW got caught out by this having only tested their engines using European grade fuel and then found they had lots of problems with vehicles sold in the US.

      Its like a good wife... if it isn't broken why change it out? Even if a person doesn't use/test/try another engine doesn't mean their insight is off. I would think anyone flying would know about all the engines out there. It was the reason they choose to go with a brand to start with in their research. Then using the fact that for 5 years their life has been great with the motor. I call that a perfect test time..

    • @wills.5762
      @wills.5762 Před 4 lety +1

      Screwing out allows more fuel in, screwing in does the opposite. Righty tighty lefty loosey. That said, I wouldnt adjust anything for a few more hours. My 185 was kinda all over the place for the first 12 hours or so, then it smartened right up. Bump the idle up a little, but I wouldnt adjust the mixture at all unless your spark plug is ashy or dark.

    • @augustreil
      @augustreil Před 4 lety +1

      You first need to determine how many turns it is out and that is done by screwing the jet in all the way, counting the turns as you go, This is super important and don't use a lot of torque or you'll ruin the jet. If any adjustments are made, 1/4-1/2 turn out at most each time and see if you notice anything, but no more than that.

    Question for Tucker or anyone else: Why haven't paramotor pilots ever petitioned the big 4 (Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki) to build a reasonably priced, completely reliable 1000 hour engine? If anyone could do it, they could. I'm planning to get into paramotoring within the next year but for the money spent there's simply no value. $6-10,000 is a lot of money considering the maintenance and reliability issues I've seen paramotor pilots deal with. It's ridiculous. I own 10 motorcycles (no joke, just click on my name), I hold a PPL and I'm a retired A&P mechanic so I wasn't born yesterday. I know there's a lot of brand loyalty out there and I'm not trying to stir up 'tihs' here but I guaranty Honda or the others could build a 2 stroke engine that would run circles around what's currently being used. They know how to build small, high performance, reliable engines, that's all they do. Thanks.

    • @duanetschmidt
      @duanetschmidt Před 4 lety +7

      ZootSuitCooter paramotors are super light weight compared to most of the engines you mention and it is a relatively small market

    • @ZootSuitCooter
      @ZootSuitCooter Před 4 lety +20

      @@duanetschmidt and Richard C, thank you for the replies. It's just that I've been a mechanic for most of my life and I've never seen an engine so overpriced as these little 2 stroke paramotor engines. There's no way, even considering development and tooling, that an 80-200cc 2 stroke engine is WORTH what they're charging. I guess it's supply and demand but it's a real turn-off watching vids of these things breaking down over frivolous maintenance issues in less than 200hrs. Throttle cables breaking, exhausts cracking, clutches falling apart, etc. These are petty, petty issues for any engine manufacturer, they're no more reliable than a $100 Chinese lawnmower engine from Harbor Freight. Again, thanks, that's my 2 cents.

      In the ultralight area at Oshkosh 1980 a Yamaha factory rep was asked if the reason they were reluctant was liability concern. He laughed said "liability, we build motorcycles". So it isn't that.

    Hey Tucker , I have been watching your videos for a good while now. I was thinking what if the wing were made out of some sort of rigid material to prevent collapsing or if there was a way after the wing is up there some how some way of making the wing rigid to prevent collapsing . There has to be a way or a material that would work. Thats my biggest fear would be taking a collapse .

    What is the tiny pixelated box that is showing up mid video? Is that a landmark that isn't supposed to be shown on camera? One example is at 7:18 on the horizon(right on screen)about 9 o'clock of your position as you move forward.

    My brand spank'n new 185 is being matched with my new frame as I type (I hope). Anyway, it's due to arrive in about 2 weeks. There are probably as many opinions on break in techniques as there are engines but, any recommendations on the break in?

    • @TuckerGott
      @TuckerGott  Před 4 lety +2

      I would follow exactly what the manual says. Definitely strap your motor to a stand or a tree. I've broken in motors on my back before and it's torture!

      @TuckerGott  Před 4 lety +1

      Two stroke is by far more popular. Estart is an option for this motor and if you're going to use it on a trike, I say you may as well get it!
