Nature is an awe-inspiring force, capable of devastating destruction. From powerful volcanoes spewing molten lava to massive tsunamis that swallow entire coastlines, the raw power of Mother Nature is something to behold. Even the most destructive storms, like hurricanes, can wreak havoc on everything in their path. But amidst all these incredible displays, there's one force that trumps them all: earthquakes. In just a matter of seconds, the ground beneath our feet can shake and sway with a ferocity that leaves even the mightiest disasters in the dust.
So why were these Earthquakes so deadly, and are there more big earthquakes coming? Could the next big one hit where you live?

In my area, this practically does not happen, but you will not envy the guys living near the ring of fire. If I were them, I'd move from there just in case. It would seem that our planet is very comfortable for life, but from time to time it can seem formidable and these quirks should not be ignored.🤔

I live in Christchurch, NZ. We had a 6 mag earthquake in Sept 2010, another aftershock, similar magnatude in 2011. 181 people died, and we were saved by general understanding of earthquakes, which had resulted in adequate strengthing codes. However, we also live in the middle of the Alpine Fault, which runs up against the major tectonic plates of the Australian and Pacific plates. The later is subtuctive to the former. The MAJOR concern is the quake on the Alpine Fault, which runs right through NZ. Some say it is a mag 10 when it hits, and if you look at NZ, that means a lot of destruction .

Had to end up coming back to England after that. Hope it’s all good there now. I went back to visit after 1 year for the anniversary in Hagley Park and it was unrecognisable from what I remembered around CBD.

most of the people who say mag ten are either fearmongering, stretching the truth or just talking about a worst case scenario. when it goes it's not likely to be worst case scenario (tho its still gonna be bad obviously). also there's different likelihoods for each region of the fault in terms of how bad the eqs likely to be, what damage will be caused and the actual likelihood of a severe earthquake happening in that region. southland, for example, may get tsunami waves, but a fault rupture there is less likely than around the center of the SI. basically just be prepared and we'll see what happens. with any luck we'll have a repeat of the September 4 situation and not a repeat of the February 22 situation

yes the scale is open ended, but remember.. it's logarithmic... a 15 is something on the level of a planet on planet collision.
or a black hole interrupting the gravity that keeps our planet together.
our planet quite simply cannot produce enough energy to do this alone through tectonics.

I've always been fascinated with space and meteorology and even chased a tornado once and want to sit out a hurricane sometime. With that being said, a strong earthquake is something I NEVER want to experience. Luckily in Toronto, Canada we rarely get earthquakes and when we do they're 4.0 - 5.0 max. Always wanted to visit Japan also but they get insanely strong earthquakes. I've always said if I'm there and one happens, I'm looking at the elders and if they're calm, I'm calm. If they look panicked or scared like in 2011, I'd consider myself dead by the earthquake itself or a massive panic attack lol.

As impossible to imagine an earthquake lasting for weeks (05:20) as it is one ripping the planet apart (06:20).
Smells a bit fishy/blockbuster movie/ratings - chasing to me, sthg I'm not used to on this channel. Hope that I'm wrong or if not, that it's a mere bump on the road.

Hurricanes. By the way, I have difficulty communicating because I had a stroke in Broca’s area, the part of the brain that controls speech. 2/8/2021 but I lived again. (My wife helped me compose this.)

When you were saying it's gone over 40,000 you have 4,000,000 then you typed 34,000,000. 🙄🤔
