“Planet earth has been home to some of the largest creatures in the history of life.” Seriously? Someone actually wrote that line? As opposed to all the other planets where we’ve found life, earth has had the biggest ones?
Dude when I read your comment, I laughed my ass off!! 😂😂. You make a great point lol..😂
Came here to say this! I'm not sure who is more stupid, the person who wrote that sentence or the person who allowed that sentence being said out loud to make the cut! 😂
Planet earth definitely has had some of the the largest creatures in the history of the world.
Yeah I definitely questioned that line as well lol
Okay, I'm glad I'm not the only one who went like this :🙄 lmao
Some impressively large creatures can still be found roaming the isles of WalMart where they forage to this day.

Love how they switched back and forth between different units of measurement to keep us on our toes!
That’s Destiny for ya
Absolutely. eventually the entire world will switch to metric as well it should. and perhaps we'll ditch DST and even time zones the absolute DUMBEST inventions ever.
At least your toes are real!
Lol exactly. The "tons of pressure" line was what did it for me.
And then mixed them up themselves: the Argentinosaurus was 100ft=ca. 30 m. Statue of Liberty= ca. 100m or 300 ft
I think it's very cool that we look at dinosaurs as being the largest animals ever, but the largest ever is still alive today. Hopefully we can keep it from going extinct.
I doubt it
What is it? That whale?
@@DukeNukem102 I believe the blue whale is considered the most massive ever. Some are longer, but the blue whale is just so massive and heavy.

That goldfish-sized little modern Great White shark looks to be at least one tenth the size of megalodon when in reality it was about a third its size.
Was looking for this comment. Proportions were very deceiving.
Yes. And they also claimed that Great White was 6 meters, while showing it barely longer than a human, making it 2-3 meters at most. Not sure if they took some liberty to make the Megalodon appear much larger, or if they're just really lazy...
@@hylianchriss likely the latter. This channel reminds me of Ridddle. Great production quality on the surface, but the voice is likely AI reading a script. Mistakes everywhere in some videos. Generally follow the same structure and reuse a fair bit of stock looking footage.
Dark5 is an example of a channel that has a personal touch. It's evolved over the years and last time I watched was still like that. You'll never really find A++ grade research or specifics from these types of channels.
The comparison at 4:55 was only 8x not 10x tho... /s
At least they manged to be more accurate with the shark (6m) to human (2m) on the next bit, it was 3x there.

I am always completely blown away by the size and weight from these creatures from an ancient past and it fascinates me every time again
Yes, but the by far largest animal to ever have lived on Earth, lives on Earth today. So while dinosaurs and prehistoric giant aquatic animals are amazing, if it's just their size and weight of them you're fascinated by...
@@hylianchriss I thought you were gonna say "humans"
@@CameronBrtnik he’s referring to blue whales.
@@hylianchriss Okay captain correction... God forbid we just enjoyed something... We always need to be wrong and be taught. Why don't you just go to the mirror and punch the first person you see... Do us all "that" a favor.
Large land animals are far more impressive. It's much more difficult to grow to enormous proportions on land than in water, so the ancient past is still more fascinating.
How'd I not know blue whales were endangered:( that's so depressing. They are the most majestic creatures to ever exist and we were blessed to share the Earth with them during our time period.
So true 😥
....most of them would kill us....
If something titanic doesn't happen all life on earth will be terminated.
I will tell you a better one than even that. When I was growing up and going through grade school in the late 1960 's and early 1970's; it was taught that blue whales were more than critically endangered. Scientists then believed them to be extinct for several decades previous.
Blue whales eat krill and such, they don't hunt humans. They may be enormous in size, but we don't fit down their throat because it's designed to eat tiny krill. Dangers to blue whales are getting caught up in human nets is bad for them or colliding with boats. Of note, you don't want to touch a blue whale because their skin secretes something necessary for preserving it IIRC and touching it can make it come off.
cant believe these massive massive giant creatures roamed the same earth that now we humans live in.....truly amazing....wow....
its crazy how big some dinosaurs were, and yet, the Blue Whale today is still bigger (or roughly the same)
@@robertbrocklehurst1803 same. My mom is so tiny, a racoon looks big. I keep that in mind when using a to scale picture of her next to a titanosaur.
And don't forget the even bigger Big Biggy Whale! It's SO BIG! Wow... If you were six years old, you'd still be impressed.
@@kwimms I hate to break it to you, but your parents are lying to you. They were probably going to break it to you whenever you moved outta their basement but Big Biggy Whale doesn't exist. Sorry.
And they had more Co2 int he air back then too. Go figure. Seems the furthest you go back and the higher the Co2 gets, the larger the creatures. Bugs bigger than a Great Dane. Wouldn't want to live alongside those things.
Much bigger and heavier than any dinosaur. None other beast have come to weigh 200 tons or more.
Only 10,000 blue whales left on the planet?! That blew my mind. I was peacefully falling asleep to this video and that definitely woke me up.
If Megalenia went extinct 50,000 years ago and it did make contact with humans, I wouldn’t be surprised if we drove it to extinction.
We had the same effect on the Wooly Mammoths. It happens.

Crazy that planet Earth had these amazing creatures on Earth :o definitely the animals of all time
7:11 there is actually pently of evidence that suggests Megalodon and Livyatan did compete and clash with each other when need be. The megalodon and Livyatan had very similar diets and its been heavily theorized (with evidence to support such as tooth marks and even fossil evidence) that the Megalodon ate whales by disabling them before killing them like many prehistoric apex predators. Plus, while Livyatan lived for a shorter length of time, there is some overlap between Megalodon’s time and Livyatan. They also did hunt in the same waters
It may have been a more even fight. It is said that sharks scatter fast when there are orcas around, and that an orca can outmaneuver the shark so as to tear out their liver. But then, like Abraham Lincoln said according many internet posts, I'm skeptical of anything I read on the internet.
Thanks for putting the source of the content you used. That Julian Johnson-Mortimer channel looks really great. Thanks for this!
Planet earth has been home to some of the largest and most impressive creatures in the history of life.... c'mon, you're pulling my leg.
The implications of that sentence are interesting
The biggest this the biggest that to have ever lived repeated 15 times in one video lol
It definitely assumes a lot of our unknown universe.
"approximately 19 million years ago." well, that's something I guess. Argentinosaurs lived about 40 million years after all dinos had died. Undead dinos?
Awesome video! How could we say the Blue Whale was the largest animal to have ever lived? I believe we should say, that we know of! It is highly likely we have only found a small percentage of the fossil record.
None animal have ever get that much weight, and it still growing!. And even though we ares still discovering, it hard to say that any other creature could get that big. Food is a key.
That is a good point. It's within the realms of possibility that an even larger marine animal existed but hasn't been discovered yet, or may well never be discovered, especially if it had no boney skeleton or shell.
They actually just found fossils of a whale they think could have been bigger called Perucetus colossus or P. colossus.

Crazy that such a small brain controlled all those nerves in that dinosaur. Brain is truly the most powerful power source to ever exisy
It's possible that early men in Australia were hunted commonly by megalania and perhaps to avoid future attacks, they made a coordinated effort to eradicate every lizard they came across.
I'm surprised that they didn't include the titan boa, the Giganotosaurus, or the Argentavis.
Quetzalcoaltus too

Let's all respect the camera man filming the dinosaurs
The only dinosaur that the blue whale isn't bigger than is the Arentinosaurus because they were 108 feet or 36 meters in length.
you're confusing length vs size (i.e. weight). it's not even close. blue whales win every time.
There are many animals that are longest than blue whale and and any other animals including the argen. The siphonophore, for example, is the longest animal to ever live which 50 meters in length or probably more.

Impressive narrative! I was drawn into the indigenous lizards!!
Livyatan and Megalodon lived in the Oceans at the same time, and so would almost certainly have competed against one another, so you might want to revisit that one.
Yeah, they both shared the same hunting grounds most likely as megalodons were in shallow waters for the most part and I doubt livyatan were like sperm whales where they dive deep to hunt giant squid.
Orcas came into play around then as well. Remember that Orcas are smart and they hunt in packs. Nothing nastier than a pack animal when it comes to hunting (look at us). Megladon would have stood no chance against them as they're fast, with incredible stamina (as they breathed fresh air instead of water laden O2) with a tremendous bite force as well.
@leecowell8165 apart from the massive size difference ? Megladon could have swallowed an early killer whale whole.

Thank you for this insightful history of life on earth. When it comes to living big, or living it large, these creatures have definitely made"it". I mean possessing gills is definitely an advancement of biotechnology which can't be compared to any other planet. Also having a thick skin, definitely helps to live large. How badass to be 1000 kilos and chew grass and drink water. I definitely draw my achievement as a human from drinking a cup of water when I'm thirsty, I really feel accomplished.
