If there was a tv show that depicted him as an idiot in his capacity as a journalists he would be pissed. And if regular people who watched that tv show came to the conclusion that Rob was an idiot based on that tv show, he would be pissed.

@@uberhikari he doesn't need a TV show; listening to this podcast pretty much confirms he's an idiot if he thinks what the show is doing is okay. It's one thing for a TV show to dramatize an event by using a different person's name with his likeness, but it's another thing to actually use Jerry's name and portray him as a neurotic clown.
An example how it would be wrong is if when the show gets to the part where Magic announces he has HIV, it suggests that he got it from sexual activities with a man or he was using drugs with a shared needle. It would be wrong because that's not what happened, and it would be wrong because it further promotes the myth that HIV was a gay/druggie disease.

As an independent filmmaker, I have to say that Chris is absolutely right. I am currently developing a film based on a true story, and I went to the actual people and got their permissions to tell it as accurately as possible. I interviewed them about what happened, and while I took some mild creative license in the script, I only did that for the purposes of fitting it into a reasonable movie time frame and for more productive storytelling. I did not change major facts about who these people are or what they went through. These filmmakers of this so-called Lakers TV series know exactly what they are doing. They knew they had to use these people's real names in order to get people to watch it because they knew that was the easiest way to draw in the the average viewer. Sadly, the average viewer believes these things are true, and you can tell by the online comments they are making. If they really had good intentions, they would have fictionalized the names. Then, everybody would know that these are parodies of real people. They did not do that. They use these people's real names, and it is frankly unethical. They are using a legal loophole to get away with it, but just because something is legal does not make it at the goal. They didn't want the smoke with Magic Johnson or Kareem Abdul Jabbar, but they thought they could pick on a less famous old man and get away with it. What's funny to me is that the people who are calling Jerry West a snowflake are literally the same people who block folks on Twitter for mild disagreements or who will argue back and forth FOREVER on Facebook, Instagram, and the CZcams comment section about ANY small little thing. There is no way that these same people criticizing Jerry West would have the stomach to endure having a TV series using their real name portray them falsely with only a small disclaimer saying it's "loosely based" on facts.

Though I get you analysis if that is the only way West is portrayed, then you'd be correct. However you can't disregard that the basis of the story is from a book that interviewed a lot of people from that era as well. If you only take into account the accounts by Jeanie, Magic, West etc. they will only give the good side of things and as we all know that isn't always the case. An example, Norm Nixon gave a detailed account of the verbal beatdown's West handed down on him when he was new to the team back in '83. Magic would routinely boast about his many female encounters publicly as well. Though this isn't an accurate account that HBO is portraying, is sure as hell isn't as inaccurate as the Lakers are trying to say it is either.
